Beatrice Anna Stone
71, St. Peter's
Beatrice Anna Stone, 71, of St. Peter’s, died peacefully at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, after loosing her battle with cancer, Sunday, July 23, 2000.
Born in Sampsonville, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Sampson) Sampson.
She will be lovingly remembered for her dedication to her family, her strength of character and her wit. She enjoyed gardening, reading and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan.
She was employed in St. Peter’s at Morrison’s Store, Maritime Tel and Tel, Nicholas Denys Museum and later the St. Peter’s Post Office until her retirement.
In the past she was active in her community, a member of the Altar Society, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 ladies auxiliary and the Home and School Association.
She is survived by her loving husband, Johnny; sons, Brent (Mae), Sydney and Pierre (Janet), Orleans, Ont.; daughters, Maura Poirier, Louisdale, Denise Mombourquette (Larry), St. Peter’s, Janice Touesnard (Ervin), River Bourgeois, Gisele McPhee (Fraser), Lower Sackville, Paula Sampson (Jerome), Halifax and Tanya, at home; brothers, Whiley, Theodore and Daniel Yugh (DY); sisters, Lila Carter (Charlie), Genevieve Carter (George), Mary Margaret (Peggy) Savoy and Melinda Deveau; grandchildren, Marc, Andrea, Tom, Scott, Lindsay, Andrew, Kristin, Amanda, Ainsley, Cameron, Adam, Justin, Trevor, Ryan and Michael.
She was predeceased by brothers, Enos, Bernard, Martin and Patrick, sisters, Delrosa Savoy, Grace Carter and a sister in infancy.
The body is resting at the River Bourgeois Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richmond Villa Activity Department.

Joseph Sheldon Trimm
52, Louisbourg
Joseph Sheldon Trimm, 52, of Louisbourg, passed away in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, July 23, 2000, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Scatarie Island, he was the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Wadden) Trimm.
Joey’s strong faith was a source of strength and peace to him in his last days. He was a devout believer in God’s love and was very proud of his tenure as a Eucharistic Minister at Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg.
Joey was a devoted family man and was employed with Devco for 23 years until his retirement in May 2000. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a dedicated member of the Louisbourg Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years and served as fire chief for the last 14 years. He was instrumental in the planning of the soon to be constructed fire hall. He was a member of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, Maritime Fire Chiefs Association, Fire Officers Association of Nova Scotia and past secretary/treasurer of the Cape Breton Regional Fire Chiefs Association.
He was an attendant with the Louisbourg Volunteer Ambulance Association. Joey was former Emergency Measures Co-ordinator. He was a former chair person of the Louisbourg Crabfest Committee and also a former cub leader.
Surviving are his loving wife, Sylvia (Devison); two sons, Allan (Kimberly), Sydney, Kevin (fiancee, Sheryl) at home and special granddaughter, Katie Ann; brothers, Fabian (Joyce), Louisbourg, Jimmie (Chris), Whiterock, B.C., Glenn (Betty Anne), Lower Sackville, N.S.; sisters, Mabel Tutty, Louisbourg, Susie Hercia, Delores (Mike) Gorecky, Oshawa, Diane Lahey (George), Lower Sackville, N.S. and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Lester and sisters, Henrietta, Kathleen and Eileen.
Visitation took place at Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg, Monday 7-9 p.m. and will be held today (Tuesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass being celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery, under the direction of W.A. Chant’s Funeral Home, Main Street, Louisbourg.
In Joey’s memory, donations may be made to the Louisbourg Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund or the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society.
Rev. Joseph Graham
79, Dominon
Reverend Joseph Graham, 79, of Dominion, N.S., died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late William and Anne Josephine (O’Neil) Graham.
He received his early education at Park Street School, Dominion and St. Anne’s High School, Glace Bay. Father studied at St. Francis Xavier University before entering the Scarborough Foreign Mission Society, St. Mary’s, Ontario in 1943. Following his novitiate he did further study at St. F.X. and Holy Heart Seminary before beginning his theological education at St. Augustine’s Seminary, Toronto. Father Graham was ordained on May 27, 1954 in North Bay, Ontario by the Most Reverend R.H. Dignam.
During his priestly career he served as assistant administrator and pastor in parishes in Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Copper Cliff, Hanmer, Manitouwadge, Elliot Lake, Sturgeon Falls and White Fish, all in Ontario.
On June 2, 1987 Father Graham retired from active ministry and returned to his native Dominion to live. During these years he had been actively involved in parish work in the Deanery helping in parishes when priests were ill or away.
Fr. Graham is survived by two sisters, Alice and Margaret (Angus) Steele and brother, Harvey (Ethel), all of Dominion. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Fr. Graham was predeceased by two sisters, Sr. Theresa CSM and Mary, six brothers, Daniel, William, and four brothers in infancy.
Visitation will be held Wednesday in Curry Funeral Home Limited, 775 Main St., Glace Bay from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, 2-4 p.m. The body will be transferred to Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport for a vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with the Most Rev. Colin Campbell officiating and the priests of the Diocese con-celebrating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Willard Kenneth Hinkley
77, Pleasant Bay, Inverness County
Willard Kenneth Hinkley, 77, of Pleasant Bay, Inverness County, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2000, at Sacred Heart Community Health Center, Cheticamp.
Born in Pleasant Bay, he was the son of the late John S. Hinkley and Flora (nee Fraser) Hinkley. He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Pleasant Bay. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 32, Cheticamp.
He is survived by his son, Stephen (Marilyn), Pleasant Bay; daughter, Susanne (Mrs. Joseph Timmons), Pleasant Bay; daughter-in-law, Margaret Rose (Mrs. Tommy Larade), Cheticamp; brothers, David (Jennie) Hinkley, Cheticamp, and Harry (Sylvia) Hinkley, Ontario; nine grandchildren, Letitia and Nickey Hinkley, Brennan and Robert Timmons, Brittany, Spencer, Jenna and Lee Anne Hinkley and Melissa Larade.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Letitia, son, Leonard, a sister, Ethel, and one brother, Arthur.
Visitation today (Wednesday) from 1-9 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrew’s United Church, Pleasant Bay, with Rev. Laurie MacCush officiating. Interment in Pleasant Bay Cemetery.

Philip A. MacDonald
71, Sydney
Philip A. MacDonald, 71, of 312 Esplanade, formerly of 198 Dorchester St., Sydney, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Philip R. and Eva M. (Ripley) MacDonald.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sydney. He was employed for over 30 years with the Sydney Steel Corp., retiring in 1990.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Agnes Reed, Toronto; two brothers, Leroy, Toronto, and Tommy (Louise), St. Thomas, Ont.
Predeceased by a sister Shirley MacCormack and a brother, Jimmy.
The late Mr. MacDonald will have no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Church, Sydney, Rev. A. O’Connor officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Blaine George Miller
50, Sydney Mines
Blaine George Miller, 50, of 13 Burke St., Sydney Mines, died Monday July 24, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late George and Angeline (Nearing) Miller.
He was a member of St. Pius X Parish, Sydney Mines. He was employed with the Seafarers International Union and was a member of Breton Branch 8, Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Tremblett); his sons, Blaine Jr. and Leonard, his brothers, Jimmy, Kevin and Lenny, all in Sydney Mines, and his sisters, Kay Wagner and Yvonne Lamb, both in British Columbia,
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Rev Tony MacDonald officiating.
