Helen Willena Patton
88, Port Caledonia
Helen Willena Patton, 88, Port Caledonia, passed away Monday, July 24, 2000, at St. Vincent’s Guest House, Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (MacLeod) Burchell.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are daughter, Jean (Mrs. Curt McKenney), Lower Sackville; sons, John (Anne), London, Ont., Bill, Port Caledonia, Roland (Naomi), Calgary, Alta., Eric (Vicki), Kentville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles.
Visitation 6-8 this evening. Funeral service 8 p.m., Rev. Doctor Ida Armstrong-Whitehouse officiating, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Private family burial in Black Brook Cemetery, Wednesday, July 26.

Joseph Sheldon Trimm
52, Louisbourg
Joseph Sheldon Trimm, 52, of Louisbourg, passed away in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, July 23, 2000, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Scatarie Island, he was the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Wadden) Trimm.
Joey’s strong faith was a source of strength and peace to him in his last days. He was a devout believer in God’s love and was very proud of his tenure as a Eucharistic Minister at Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg.
Joey was a devoted family man and was employed with Devco for 23 years until his retirement in May 2000. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a dedicated member of the Louisbourg Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years and served as fire chief for the last 14 years. He was instrumental in the planning of the soon to be constructed fire hall. He was a member of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, Maritime Fire Chiefs Association, Fire Officers Association of Nova Scotia and past secretary/treasurer of the Cape Breton Regional Fire Chiefs Association.
He was an attendant with the Louisbourg Volunteer Ambulance Association. Joey was former emergency measures co-ordinator. He was a former chair person of the Louisbourg Crabfest Committee and also a former cub leader.
Surviving are his loving wife, Sylvia (Devison); two sons, Allan (Kimberly), Sydney, Kevin (fiancee, Sheryl) at home and special granddaughter, Katie Ann; brothers, Fabian (Joyce), Louisbourg, Jimmie (Chris), Whiterock, B.C., Glenn (Betty Anne), Lower Sackville, N.S.; sisters, Mabel Tutty, Louisbourg, Susie Hercia, Delores (Mike) Gorecky, Oshawa, Diane Lahey (George), Lower Sackville, N.S. and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Lester and sisters, Henrietta, Kathleen and Eileen.
Visitation took place at Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg, Monday 7-9 p.m. and will be held today (Tuesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass being celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery, under the direction of W.A. Chant’s Funeral Home, Main Street, Louisbourg.
In Joey’s memory, donations may be made to the Louisbourg Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund or the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society.
Augustus William Dillon
67, New Mexico
Augustus William Dillon, 67, died Monday, July 24, 2000, in New Mexico.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of William and Leah (Buckland) Dillon.
Survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Melinda and Cynthia; grandchildren, Spencer and Shelby; mother, Leah and uncle, Johnny; brothers, Melvin, Ottawa, Bradley, Toronto and James, Glace Bay; sisters, Carolyn (Daniel Campbell), Glace Bay, Paulette Jolley, Reserve Mines.
Predeceased by his father, William Dillon.
Funeral will take place July 29 in Sacramento, Calif. Memorial service to be held in Glace Bay at a later date.
Vonnie MacEachern
74, Sydney
Veronica Mary MacEachern, 74, of 135 Kitchener St., Sydney, passed away in the presence of her loving family on Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Alice (Sullivan) Snow.
She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Sydney. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch No. 128, Whitney Pier.
Vonnie had a great love for music. She was a dedicated member of the Memory Lane Singers, one of the founding members of the Coal Town Chorus, Glace Bay, a former member and director of the Whitney Pier Legionaire Singers and up to her recent illness was the founder and director of the Whitney Pier Senior Singers, since renamed the Vonnie MacEachern Singers.
She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Guillena (Cliff), Sydney, Linda Desrosiers (Allan), Dominion, Heather MacVicar (Donald), Ontario; one son, John (Debbie), Netherlands; two sisters, Betty Hoban (Clyde) and Anne Marie MacQueen (Bud), both of Sydney; five brothers, Donald (Vera), Edmonton, Gregory (Kay), Truro, Doug (Shirley), Sydney, Bill (Carole), Elliott Lake and Jack (Jane), Sydney; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, John Joseph in 1972, a brother, Melvin and also a brother in infancy.
The late Mrs. MacEachern will have visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. E. MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the C.B. Palliative Care Society, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
Catherine Ann (Cassie) MacIntyre
87, New Waterford
Catherine Ann (Cassie) MacIntyre, 87, of 747 King St., New Waterford, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Born in Codroy Valley, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Murray) Smith.
Mrs. MacIntyre is survived by daughters, Hughena (Lolly) Flint, New Waterford, Donna (Tom) Leadbeater, Halifax and Eileen (Art) McLean, Ancaster, Ont.; eight grandchildren, T.J., Aaron, Garrett, Shaun, Weldon, Gary, Ada and Patti; eight great-grandchildren, Lexie, Micaela, Jessica, Robbie, Scott, Heather, Caralena and Patrick.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Hugh MacIntyre, four sons and one daughter in infancy, brothers, Joe, William and Johnny, sisters, Ann, Maude and Lena.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacIntyre will be held today (Thursday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Church, New Waterford with Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Union Highway.

She was a pillar of our family. She was a strong, loving, caring person who always worried about everyone else but herself. Mary Beatrice MacNeil
84, Halifax
Mary Beatrice MacNeil, 84, of Mount St. Vincent Motherhouse, Halifax, formerly of Louisdale, Richmond County, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Mount St. Vincent Motherhouse in Halifax.
Born in Louisdale on December 20, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Joe and Margaret Ann (Linden) Samson.
A graduate of Normal College (1941), Truro, she taught in Richmond County schools for 25 years, retiring in 1978. While a resident of Louisdale she was very involved in the community and church, especially the CWL and Home and School.
She is survived by sons, Michael (Maureen), Lawrencetown, Roddie (Tanya), Atlanta, Ga., John (Judy), Louisdale and Paul (Anna), Hammonds Plains and daughters, Margaret Ann (Ron), North Grant and Simonne, Kentville; 11 grandchildren two great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie (Mary Mederis), Bristol, R.I. and Sr. Bertha Mae, Moncton, N.B.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Allan and sisters, Mary, Almeda, Margaret, Florence, Edna, Almeda and brother, Alfred.
Visitation will be held today in the Madonna Room at Mount St. Vincent Motherhouse in Halifax from 2-4 p.m., and Friday in the Glen Sampson Memorial Room in Louisdale from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. from St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisdale with Rev. Charlie Cameron officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
