Mary E. (Helen) Aucoin, 94, of 312 Esplanade, formerly of Hillside Street, Sydney, passed away Friday, July 28, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Lucy (Romard) LaFort.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the parish CWL. Helen was also a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Sydney Community Health Centre and the MacGillivary Guest Home.
She is survived by two daughters, Bernice (Mrs. Tom MacDonald), Sydney and Marie (Mrs. Bob Campbell), Moncton; three sons, Gerald (Helen), Dartmouth, Robert, Kentville and Gordon (Nora), Vancouver; seven sisters, Lucy May (Mrs. Gerard Doucet), Waltham, Mass., Mrs. Sadie Aucoin, Virginia, Mrs. Mary Louise Cormier, Cheticamp, Isabel (Mrs. William Chiasson), Cheticamp, Mrs. Bernadette Chiasson, Cheticamp, Ethel (Mrs. Amadee Deveaux), Cheticamp and Annie May (Mrs. Patrick MacKinnon), Sydney; three brothers, Amadee, Moncton, Joseph (Margaret), Edmonton, Arthur (Hazel), Toronto; 28 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry in 1984, two brothers, Stanley and Edmund, a sister, Cecile LeBlanc and her stepmother, Josephine Boudreau.
The late Mrs. Aucoin will have visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Anthony O’Connor officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Beatrice Gouthro
86, Halifax
Beatrice Gouthro, 86, passed away at Glades Lodge, Halifax, on Friday, July 28, 2000.
Born in Cheticamp, she was the daughter of Thomas and Matilda Chiasson.
She is survived by a daughter, Ernestine, Halifax; sister, Mary Antoinette, Cheticamp; granddaughters, Kim (Bob), Woodville, Lynn (Chris), Dartmouth, and Michelle (Chris), East Ferry; five great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pius James and a son in infancy.
Funeral service will be held in St. Agnes Church, New Waterford. Interment in St. Agnes Parish Cemetery, under the direction of V.J. McGillivray’s Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.

Susan Elizabeth Jewells

Susan Elizabeth Jewells, 85, of Dartmouth and formerly of 12 Graham St., Glace Bay, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Born in Donkin, she was the daughter of the late Angus J. and Mary Jane (Nearing) MacDonald.
Susan was a life-long resident of both Port Morien and Glace Bay before moving to Dartmouth in 1995. She was a long time parishioner of St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Susan will be sadly missed by sons, Robert (Eileen), Errol (Linda), Kenneth, Terrance (Jean), Lawrence (Sandra), all of Glace Bay; daughters, Mary, Annette and Kathleen, all of Dartmouth, daughter-in-law, Joan. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Dora MacDonald, seven nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sons, Louis and Matthew, brothers, Thompson, Ulric and Daniel, sisters, Stella MacDonald and Alice Rankin.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Jewells will be held Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Private funeral service will be held Monday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Daniel McDougall
72, Reserve
Daniel McDougall, 72, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at his home at Wilson Road, Reserve, N.S.
He is also survived by one sister, Georgina MacPhee, Ontario and was predeceased by his brothers, Roderick and Michael, and sisters, Katherine Littler and Isabelle Dickson.
Stella G. Parent

We regret to announce the death of Stella G. Parent (Pottle), formerly of Sydney on Friday, July 14, 2000, in Ohio, U.S.A.
Born in Sydney on Oct. 6, 1913, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (Snow) Pottle.
Stella is survived by her two sons, Robert and Brian and their families; her sisters, Alma, Sydney, Georgina, Winnipeg, and her brothers, Bill, Jimmy and Donnie, all of Sydney.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles and a sister, Ada.
Cremation has taken place. Interment of ashes will be held in Sydney at a later date.
Joseph Gerard (Doubleo) Tompkins
64, Glace Bay
Joseph Gerard (Doubleo) Tompkins, 64, of 1236 Main St., Bridgeport, Glace Bay, died peacefully among family and friends, Friday, July 28, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born July 6,1936 in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late John and Delores (Walsh) Tompkins.
He was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport and a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a member of the labourers union and an avid sports fan (Yankee).
He is survived by loving companion, Marilyn Ferguson; brothers, Thomas (Florence), Bridgeport, Jimmy (Judy), Red Deer, Alta.; one sister, Paulette Sulliman (Buddy), Glace Bay. He is also survived by Aunt Roberta Walsh; nieces, Shauna Tompkins, Sherry Sulliman; nephews, Chris and Scott Tompkins.
He was predeceased by sister, Gertrude in infancy.
Visitation in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
