Germaine Johnston
88, Sydney Mines
Germaine Mary Anoncial Johnston, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home and former resident of 45 Beech St., Sydney Mines, passed away Friday, June 2, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Vadreuil, Que., Germaine was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Campeau) Marleau.
Her mother died during childbirth and she was raised in North Sydney by her Aunt and Uncle, Charles and Emma (Campeau) Peters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
During her life Germaine was a dear friend and loving mother. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines and belonged to the Trinity ACW and assisted with the Girls Auxiliary and the Junior Auxiliary. She gave generously to many charities over the years. Germaine studied music at St. Agnes Convent and upon graduation, taught music. She was a life member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8 Ladies Auxiliary, Sydney Mines and a member of the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club.
Germaine is survived by her daughters, Louise (Mrs. Clarence Young), Colbrook, N.S., Mabel (Mrs. William Hall), Sydney Mines and Beverley (Mrs. Harley Olson), Thunder Bay, Ont.; her sons, Fred (Rosella), North Sydney, David (Thelma), Florence, Kenny (Maxi), Mulgrave and Jackie (Colleen), Sydney Mines; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward H. Johnston in 1970, six sisters and five brothers.
Visitation Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
The funeral service will take place Monday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, with the Rev. Brenda Drake MacDonald and Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Burial in Trinity Cemetery, Shore Road, Sydney Mines.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity.

Philias Doucet
79, Cheticamp
Philias Doucet, 79, of Cheticamp passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Sacred Heart Community Health Center, Cheticamp.
Born in Grand Etang, Inverness County, he was the daughter of the late William A. Doucet and Marie (Haché) Doucet.
He was a member of St. Peter's Church, Cheticamp. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 32, Cheticamp.
Mr. Philias Doucet graduated from St. FX University in 1952 with a teaching certificate. He taught for approximately 30 years in the Nova Scotia school system. He retired from NDA School in Cheticamp in 1981 where he had been a science teacher for the better part of his career.
He was a member of KOC Council No. 3850 Cheticamp. He was also a member of Senior Citizens Club, Cheticamp.
Surviving are his wife. the former Catherine Chiasson; two daughters, Bertha (Mrs. Greg Sams), Dartmouth and Odette (Mrs. Pierre Robitaille), Belgium; five brothers, Alex, Cheticamp, Joseph L. (Marie Helene), Antigonish, Denis (Lucille), Quebec, Fernand (Kay), Ottawa, Armand (Jeannine), Quebec; two sisters, Germaine, Cheticamp and Bernadette Coulombe, Maine, U.S.A.; and three grandchildren, Alyssa, Christian and Melanie.
Predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Gerard.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday at Cheticamp Funeral Home with visiting hours from 7-9 p.m.
A memorial mass will be offered Monday, June 5, at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, Cheticamp, with Fr. Maurice Riberdy officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Cecelia (Sis) Brown
85, Glace Bay
Cecelia (Sis) Brown, 85, a resident of Paradise Complex for 17 years and a recent resident of Seaview Manor, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
The late Mrs. Brown is also survived by a nephew, Allan Blackmore (Diane) and family and a niece, Mrs. Marie LesSalles, Port Colburne, Ont.

Lyndsay Sherrisse Boates
17, Wilmot, N.S.
Lyndsay Sherrisse Boates, of Wilmot, died suddenly on Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of Richard and Linda (Burke) Boates. She was a Grade 12 honour student at Middleton Regional High School, Middleton, and an active member in the Baptist Church youth group, Middleton. She planned to attend Acadia University this fall to pursue a bachelor degree in psychology.
She is survived by her sister, Lisa and half-sister, Janice Boates, Wilmot; half-brother, Glen Boates, Kingston; grandparents, Keith and Mary (Taylor) Boates, Wilmot and Leonard and Dorothy (Magee) Burke, Louisbourg, many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Beatrice (Clark) Boates.
Visiting will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m., Saturday at the Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday at the Middleton Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Byron Fenwick and Rev. Donald Robertson officiating.
Donations to Middleton Baptist Church or charity of choice.

Clarence Keller
79, Sydney
Clarence Keller, 79, of Harbourview Hospital, Veterans Wing, Sydney Mines, formerly of Frederick St., Sydney, passed away Friday, June 2, 2000, at the hospital.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Keller. Clarence was a member of St. Alban’s Anglican Parish. He retired from Sydney Steel Coke Ovens Department. He was a veteran of the Second World War.
Clarence is survived by his wife the former Ada Coombs; three daughters, Marilyn (Terry) Vango, Toronto, Paulette (Will) Jenson, Florida, and Debbie (Ronnie) McDonald, Glace Bay; one son, Kevin (Lydia), South Bar, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Margaret Yubka, USA and Annie Albert, Toronto.
Clarence was predeceased by one daughter Sharon in infancy, two brothers, Joe and Steve, three sisters, Bertha, Gizella, and Mary.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.

Dolena Morrison
82, Sydney
The death occurred of Dolena Morrison, 82, of Melody Lane, Sydney, on Saturday, June 3, 2000, at home.
Born in Framboise, she was a daughter of the late William and Effie (MacDonald) MacLeod. She was an adherent of First United Church, Sydney.
Dolena is survived by one daughter Joan (Mrs. Allister MacLeod), Sydney, two grandchildren, Kim Paterson (Eric Devine), Lantz, N.S. and Dwight Paterson (Shelley Kenney), Dartmouth, N.S., three great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Olivia Devine, and Ian Paterson. Also surviving are five sisters, Mary Anne MacLeod, Framboise, Annie (Mrs. Kenneth MacLeod), Sydney, Archena (Mrs. Rod MacNevin), Coxheath, Georgie MacLeod, Fourchu, Hannah MacRae, Sydney, and several nieces and nephews.
Dolena was predeceased by her husband John R., one brother, Neil Alex, four sisters, Margaret Tina, Norma, Catherine, Margaret Ann.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with funeral service held in the chapel Tuesday 11 a.m. with Rev. Fraser MacDonald officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only, memorials may be made to C.B. Palliative Care or a charity of choice.

Beverly Paul
Membertou
Beverly Paul, 41, of Membertou, died Saturday, June 3, 2000.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Viola (Nash) Paul and the late John W. Paul of Membertou. She was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Sydney, and St. Ann’s Parish, Membertou.
She is survived by two daughters, Raylene, Membertou and Maxine, New Brunswick; three sons, Nakia and Travis, both of Membertou, and Frank, New Brunswick; nine sisters, Shirley, Mary Gloria, Anita, Grace Wanda, Joyce, Emily Buckland (Steve), Constance Osborne (Michael), Palma MacDonald (Alvin), all of Membertou, Lois MacKay (David), New Brunswick; two brothers, James Clifford and Anthony Ike (Elizabeth) of Membertou.
Predeceased by two sisters, Lena Marie and Emma Ann.
The late Ms. Paul will have visitation at the home of her mother, Mrs. Viola Paul, 36 Gallagher St., Membertou after 7 p.m. tonight (Monday). Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony Daniel Church, Sydney, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment in Membertou Memorial Gardens. A salite will be held at the Membertou Sports Complex following the burial.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
