Carol Ann Scott
60, Dominion
Carol Ann Scott, of 76 Ocean View, Dominion, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, June 4, 2000.
Carol was born in Sydney, the youngest daughter of the late Nathan (Nat) and Victoria E. (Antle) Ryan. She was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Bridgeport and was active in all parish activities. During her working life she was employed at R.J. Logue, Cape Breton Development Corp., St. Joseph’s Hospital, and upon obtaining her certified nursing assistant certificate she worked for 16 years at Seaview Manor where she greatly enjoyed making countless friends of staff and patients. She was active in the Alzheimers Support Group and also in the credit union movement serving for many years on the Board of Directors in Dominion. Her hobbies included skating and donating her time to St. Vincent De Paul activities.
Carol is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jack Scott; four sons, Ken (Barb), grandchildren, Taylor and Cameron, Porters Lake, Stephen, Halifax, David (Sherrie), Innisfail, Alberta, and Kevin (Michelle) and grandchildren, Kyle and Riley, Grand Cache, Alberta. Carol is also survived by five sisters, and two brothers, Kay (Pat) Horgan, Stanhope, PEI, Margo Russell, Whitby, Ont., Rhoda (Ted) Snow, Sydney, Betty (Greg) MacDonald, Delaware, Gertie (Jim) Long, Whitby, Ont., Ray (Mary), Sydney, and Joe (Marguerite), Shenacadie.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place as per Carol’s wishes. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating.
Family flowers only. Donations suggested are St. Vincent De Paul, Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport, or the Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Family will receive relatives and friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral mass in the church foyer.
Bernice Emma Fournier
Howie Center
Bernice Emma Fournier of Howie Center, formerly of Halifax, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Monday, June 5, 2000.
Born at Halifax, Jan. 2, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Bernard Foster and Josephine (White) Westhaver of Halifax. She was a member of the I.O.D.E. Louisbourg Chapter, Cape Breton Home Crafters, The Art Foundation and also of the School of Crafts (teacher).
She was the beloved wife of Robert George Fournier and mother of two daughters, Nadene Bernice (Wayne) Gillis, Calgary, and Heather Lynn Fournier, also of Calgary. She was a loving grandmother to Katie and Emily.
She will be sadly missed by three sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Thomson, Halifax, Mrs. Shirley Turnbull, Halifax and Janet Labine, Hamilton; five brothers, Vernon, Halifax, Gary (Suzanne), Flin Flon, Manitoba, Ricky (Nancy), Halifax, Roland (Shirley), Halifax and Raymond (Melanie), Courtney, B.C.
She was predeceased by her twin brother Bernard in infancy, one brother, Donald and three sisters, Joyce, Marjorie, and Ruth.
The late Mrs. Fournier will have visitation today (Tuesday) 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or charity of choice.
Catherine (Taty) McDonald
80, New Waterford
Catherine (Taty) McDonald, 80, of 3527 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Ronald H. and Theresa (MacPherson) McDonald. Catherine was a member of St. Agnes Church.
Surviving are five brothers, John (Buddy), Amherst, N.S., Charles (Sharkey), New Waterford, Archie, River Ryan, Ronald (Jr.), Windsor, Ont., Ernie, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; three sisters, Theresa (Teasy) White, New Waterford, Margaret (Peggy) Beaton, New Waterford, with whom she resided, and Veronica (Vonnie), New Glasgow.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Mary MacDonald, Gertrude and Doreen.
The late Ms. McDonald will have no visitation as cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivary Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Memorial mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Agnes Church, Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Florence Cedella Moore
87, North Sydney
Florence Cedella Moore, 87, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, formerly of 1 William St., North Sydney, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
She was born in Rose Blanche, Nfld. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, active for many years with the ACW and the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club.
She is survived by one son, Roy (wife Pam), Barrie, Ont.; grandchildren, Donna and Graham and great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Delaney, all of Ontario. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Raymond Moore.
Visitation will be held today (Tuesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service Wednesday, 2 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with the Rev. Reg. MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Dorothy Evelyn Ross, 86, Dartmouth

Dorothy Evelyn Ross, 86, of Dartmouth, died June 3, 2000, at home.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Thomas P.A. and Isobel (MacLean) Boutilier. She trained and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Sydney Hospital in 1936.
She is survived by daughter, Marion Lorraine, Dartmouth; her grandchildren, Andrew Gordon Malaidack, Halifax; Lisa Anne Malaidack, Dartmouth. Also surviving are brothers Clifford and Lloyd, both of Sydney.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Gordon; sisters, Helen (Murchison/Crooks), Christine (Maffucci); brothers, Frederick, Edwin, Andrew.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Jim Anderson officiating, both in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Burial will be in Pleasanthill Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Jean Marie Young
Glace Bay
Jean Marie Young, 66, of 18 Norwood Street, Glace Bay, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 4, 2000, surrounded by her loving family at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late William and Christina (O’Handley) McMullin. Jean was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. She was a life member of St. Anne’s Sodality (St. Anthony’s Church), a member of KOC Ladies Auxiliary (serving as vice-president) a member of KOC dart league and a former member of the Glace Bay Community Band. Jean was deeply devoted to her family.
Mrs. Young is survived by her husband, Joseph; five daughters, Joann Young, Debbie (Mrs. Paul MacIsaac), both of Glace Bay, Paulette (Mrs. Fred Turnbull), Dominion, Lesley (Mrs. Paul Tracey), Halifax, and Alyson Young, at home; brothers, William, Eastern Passage, Gerard, Glace Bay; sisters, Norma LeBlanc and Beverly MacNeil, both of Glace Bay. Mema will be forever loved by her three granddaughters, Leah Jean and Emily Dawn MacIsaac and Molly Elizabeth Tracey.
There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Young. Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St, Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. A private committal will take place at a later date.
No flowers by request. Donations in Jean’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice are suggested as an expression of sympathy.
