Anna Ross
Sydney Mines
Anna Rosamund Ross, 81, of 20 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines, N.S., died at the Northside General Hospital on Sunday, June 11, 2000.
She was born in Oxford, N.S., to the Rev. J.W. O’Brien and Matilda (Annear) and lived her early years in various communities in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, notably Yarmouth and Saint John. She moved to Sydney Mines in 1939 where her father was Minister of Carman United Church until 1949, and she herself organist and choir director for a number of years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald W. Ross in 1979; by one step-daughter, Margaret (Duval), Truro; by her brother, Arthur O’Brien, Black’s Harbour, N.B., and by her sister, Gertrude Hilchie, Sydney Mines.
She is survived by two step-daughters, Jean (O.E.) Duplisea, Halifax, Mora (Bob) Oxley, Toronto; three sons, John Hugh (Sheila), Halifax, Peter (Mary Jane), North Sydney, and Norman, at home; by two nephews and nine grandchildren, and by a special friend and companion, John Van Auken.
She graduated in music from Mount Allison University, and was an accomplished tennis player.
Anna will forever be remembered by her family and her many friends for her great sense of compassion, her strength of character, and her capacity for love.
Visitation at G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, 84 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Monday) 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service at Carman United Church, Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines, Tuesday, June 13, at 3 p.m., Rev. Karen Ralph officiating.
Donations may be made to Carman United Church, or to a charity of choice.

Memorial Service
A memorial service will be held for Jimmie Hunt on Thursday, June 15, at 2:30 p.m. in the First United Church, Louisbourg, N.S.
Immediately following, his ashes will be taken by his immediate family and deposited in the water off Louisbourg harbour.
Douglas MacAskill
73, North River, Victoria Co.
Douglas MacAskill, 73, of North River, Victoria County, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2000, at home.
Born in North River, he was raised by the late Malcolm and Rachael MacAskill.
He was an adherent of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, North River Bridge.
The body is resting at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church with visiting hours 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14 and the funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Shirley Murdock officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck.
Allan R. MacDonald
69, New Brunswick
The death occurred at Moncton General Hospital Thursday, June 8, 2000, of Allan R. MacDonald, of Summerside, aged 69 years.
Dear husband of Mary C. (nee MacIntyre). Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Allan J. and Elizabeth (MacKenzie) MacDonald.
He worked in Number 12 Colliery before enlisting in the Armed Forces, in which he served for 30 years.
Loving father of Linda (James) Antle, New Waterford, Helen (Pierre) Beauchamp, Trenton, Ont., Elizabeth LeBlanc, (friend) Lorne Praught, Summerside, Allan Jr. (Marilyn) Greenwood, N.S., Barb (Lennie) Begin, Petawawa, Ont., Rose MacDonald, Summerside, Richard (Tammy), Edmonton, Alta. Also lovingly remembered by 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Survived by his sister, Reynelda MacDonald (Frattini), Sudbury, Ont., and his brother, Harry (Pauline) MacDonald.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Terry, his brother, Terrance, and his sister, Eileen.
Interment of cremated remains and memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Church in Summerside at a later date.
Elizabeth MacNeil
Sydney
Elizabeth MacNeil of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of Common Street, Sydney, passed away Monday, June 12, 2000, at the residence.
Born at Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of the late James and Flora (MacGillivary) MacNeil.
Surviving are four sons, Edward, Roderick (Eileen) and Herbert, all of Sydney, and Paul (Cathy), Peterborough, Ont.; two sisters, Mrs. Vange MacLean and Mrs. Toots Surette, both of Sydney; six grandchildren, Robin, Andrew, Stephen, Jennifer, Jan-Lee, and Paul and several great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Neil MacNeil in 1968, four brothers, Vince, John, Eddie and Jimmy, five sisters, Katie, Maude, Margaret, Cecilia and Rosie.
The late Mrs. MacNeil will have visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Parkview Chapel. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
James Brown MacQueen
76, Sydney Mines
Mr. James Brown MacQueen, 76, of 10 Butt St., Sydney Mines, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at home.
Mr. MacQueen was born in Sydney Mines and is survived by sons, Wayne (Elaine), Lorne, and Ronnie, all in Sydney Mines.
Funeral services for the late Mr. James MacQueen will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
Evan Graham McLeod
69, Glace Bay
Evan Graham McLeod, 69, of 162 Brookside St., Glace Bay, passed away peacefully at his residence, Monday, June 12, 2000.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Charles and Mamie (MacKeigan) MacLeod.
Mr. McLeod was a former employee of the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board.
He is survived by his wife, the former Janet Warner; two sons, Brian (Celeste) and Gordon; four daughters, Nora (Gerard MacLellan); Katherine (Scott Woodburn); Laura (John Healey) and Lesley (Brent Oncale) and one sister, Vera. Evan will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Callum and Pauline McLeod, Jeffrey MacLellan and Courtney and Jared Healey.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Gordon MacLeod.
Visitation for the late Mr. McLeod will be held Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Matthews officiating. Cremation will follow. Burial will be at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Evan’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation of Nova Scotia.
