Sidney F. Quinn
90, Point Edward
Sidney F. Quinn, 90 of Rudderham Road, Point Edward and formerly of Beechmount, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2000, at home.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late John and Amanda (Fraser) Quinn. Sid was employed with Municipal Ready Mix for many years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Frenchvale. He was a lover of Scottish music and enjoyed playing the fiddle.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheila (Charles) MacDonald, Point Edward, with whom he resided, Ann Quinn, Dartmouth; six sons, Michael (Joanne), Kentucky, USA, Dennis (Christine), California, Kevin (Gail) and Dan, both of Coxheath, Patrick, Sydney and Timothy, North Sydney; four sisters, Dennie, Dartmouth, Gladys (Toots), New Jersey, Pauline, Sydney Mines and Peggy, Vancouver; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Allen; one son, Andrew in infancy; two sisters, Eileen and Alma; two brothers, Elmer and John and two grandchildren, Christopher MacDonald and Neil Quinn.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Monday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church, Frenchvale with the Rev. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice.
Francis Xavier Tait
58, New Waterford
Frances Xavier Tait, 58, of 3477 Ellsworth Ave., New Waterford, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Angus (Judique) and Elizabeth (McMullin) MacDonald. Frances was a member of Mount Carmel Church, New Waterford. She was employed as a Personal Care Worker and she also worked for the Cape Breton Regional School Board. She belonged to the New Waterford Pensioner’s Club and she loved playing bingo.
Frances did volunteer work with the Nova Scotia Lung Association. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
She is survived by one daughter, Frances Tait (Derrick), New Waterford; three sons, Billy (Rose Lynn) Tait, Glace Bay, Robert Tait (Valerie), Ontario, Murray Tait (Ann Louise), New Waterford; two brothers, John (Helena) MacDonald, New Waterford, Angus (Laurie) MacDonald, New Victoria; five sisters, Mary McKenzie, New Waterford, Margaret (Mrs. Frank Bota), New Waterford, Betty (Mrs. Garfield Timmons), Ontario, Rachael (Mrs. Dave Lavender), New Brunswick and Kitty (Mrs. Billy Doucette), New Waterford and 10 grandchildren. She was also survived by a special friend, Wilson (Jigs) Burchell, New Victoria.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, William Andrew (Sonny).
Visitation will take place at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Mount Carmel Church, New Waterford, Wednesday, 11 a.m. with Fr. Donald McGillivray officiating. Cremation to follow with the ashes being buried in the parish cemetery at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy for Frances, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, C.B. Regional Hospital or the N.S. Lung Association.

Mary Boychuk, of Fairview Street, Sydney, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at home.
Born in Portage La Prairie, Man., she was the daughter of the late Rozalia and Peter Priemski of Portage La Prairie, Man.
She is survived by one son, three sisters, two brothers, two grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
The late Mrs. Boychuk will have no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Burial in the family plot in Portage La Prairie, Man. at a later date.
Donations may be made to the N.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Loaves and Fishes.

A memorial service for the late Evelyn Mildred Burns, under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel, will be held at Westmount United Church, Wednesday, June 21, 2 p.m., with Rev. Bernice Spracklin officiating.
Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
James (Jimmy) Dominie

James (Jimmy) Dominie passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, June 17, 2000.
He was the son of the late James and Louise Dominie.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Chislett); sons, Walter, Glace Bay, Gary (Donna), Rose Blanche, Nfld., Kevin (Mary Anne) Stephenville, Nfld.; daughter, Lisa (Alec) Parsons, Rose Blanche, Nfld.; grandchildren, Michael, Kimberly, Joseph, Cory, Dillion and great-grandson Stephen.
The wake will be held at St. Michael’s and All Angels Church with burial to follow Tuesday, June 20 at 2 p.m.
Peter Lorenzo Pottie
85, River Bourgeois
Peter Lorenzo Pottie, 85, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in River Bourgeois, he was the son of the late Amable and Minnie (Landry) Pottie.
He was an employee of the Sydney Steel Plant for 32 years, and upon retirement worked with the Department of Highways in Richmond County.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, the former Margaret Fougere; sons, Peter (Milton), Middleton, N.S., Kelvin, Port Hawkesbury, N.S.; daughters, Audrey (Mrs. John MacNeil), Burlington, Ont., Judy (Mrs. Leo MacNeil), River Bourgeois, N.S., Dona, Kingston, N.S.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by brother, Willard, sisters, Evelyn, Eldon, Nellie and grandson, Mark Christopher.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held Friday, June 23, in St. John the Baptist Church, River Bourgeois, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sandy MacNeil officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Joseph Mark (Pino) Duco
74, Donkin
Joseph Mark (Pino) Duco, 74, of 76 Bastable St., Donkin, died at the Glace Bay Hospital, Monday, June 19, 2000.
Born in Donkin, he was the son of the late Antonio and Martha (Scarinzi) Duco, Italy.
He was a member of St. Gregory’s Parish. He was also a member of the Donkin Legion and the Donkin Fire Department. He also served as a county constable in the early years of his life.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Aurelia Scarinzi, Italy and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, and one sister, Elizabeth (Liza) Susin, three brothers, Rannie, Waldo and infant, Adam.
Visitation will be in the Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, today (Wednesday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in the funeral home chapel Thursday, 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Interment in St. Gregory’s Cemetery.
