Margaret Elizabeth MacDougall
84, Reserve Mines
Margaret Elizabeth MacDougall, 84, of 756 Neville St., Reserve Mines, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 21, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, surrounded by her family.
Born in Reserve Mines, June 22, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Mary Ann (Gouthro) Gillis.
Mrs. MacDougall was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. She was a former member of St. Joseph’s Altar Society.
Mrs. MacDougall is survived by three daughters, Mary Navarole, Reserve Mines, Elaine (Greg) Tomiczek, with whom she resided, and Priscilla (Frankie) Pickup, both of Dominion; three sons, Jerry (Norma), Vernon and Joseph, all of Reserve; sister, Chris Magowan, Schenectady, N.Y. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bernie, infant daughter, Lorna and brother, Joe Gillis.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacDougall will be held Friday and Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Sunday, 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. John Graham officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Margaret’s memory to St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund are suggested as an expression of sympathy.

89, St. Peter's
Katherine MacPhail, 89, of St. Peter’s, passed away at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, Thursday, June 22, 2000.
Born in Seaview, she was a daughter of the late Kathy Belle and John MacLeod.
Surviving are daughters, Sharon (Angus) MacDonald, St. Peter’s, Joan (Ernie) Fougere, French Cove, Jean Penny, St. Peter’s, Jessie Samson, Montreal, Betty LeBlanc, London, Ont.; sons, Wayne (Nancy), Seaview, Winston (Anna), Oban, Wendell (Shirley), River Bourgeois, Sherman (Cheryl), St. Peter’s, Melvin (Rose), St. Peter’s, John (Peggy), Sydney. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh, daughter, Eva Belle, son, Calvin and two children in infancy, one brother, Alex and one sister, Christine.
Visitation will be at the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s, today (Friday) 2-9 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. -1:30 p.m. Funeral will be held in the St. Peter’s United Church, Saturday at 3 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating, assisted by Rev. Anthony Ware. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, St. Peter’s.

Rosella Beatrice (Beat) Martell
84, New Waterford
Rosella Beatrice (Beat) Martell, 84, of Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford, formerly of South Bar, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 22, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, with her family by her side.
Born in Sandy Point, Burin, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Alfred John and Mary Ann (Allen) Drover.
She was a member of St. Alphonse’s Church, South Bar and the CWL. She was also an avid bingo player.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Raymond (Ray’tel) Martell in 1973 and a son, Joseph Alfred (Fred) in 1996 and grandson, Charles Alphonse in 1988.
Grannie Beat will be sadly missed but forever remembered by her loving family, sons, Jeremiah ‘Jerry’ (Sylvia), West Punico, N.S., Joseph Daniel ‘Danny’ (Deanna), Londonderry, N.S., John Gordon (CarolAnn), Scotchtown; daughter-in-law, Iris, South Bar; sisters, Frances (Fan) Robertson, Florence, Margaret (Ray) Hurley, St. Catharines, Ont., Irene (Kenneth) Dowell, St. Thomas, Ont., Dorothy (Wally) Morgan, Sydney Mines, Cathy (Wally) Aitkens, Westmount; brothers, Norman (Daisy), Kitchener, Ont., Wilson (Gertie), Sheet Harbour, N.S., John, New Victoria.
Also predeceased by brothers, George, Ron and Ralph and one in infancy, sisters, Frances and Elizabeth (Bess) Lundrigan.
She is survived by 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Martell is in the McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, today (Friday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass being held 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Alphonse’s Church, South Bar with Fr. Everett McDow officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Hannah Jane Miller
87, Sydney
Hannah Jane Miller, 87, Matilda Street, formerly of Broadway, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2000, at home.
Born in Isle la Morte, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Rose Emma (Keeping) Coleman.
Hannah was a member of St. Alban’s Church and the ladies auxiliary. She was also a member of the Friday afternoon bowling league and Club 55.
Surviving are her daughters, Helen (the late Tato) Mombourquette and Margaret (John) Bruno, both of Sydney; son, James (Ann), Westmount and Donnie (Patricia), Sydney; sisters, Katie MacEachern, Tatamagouche and Edith King, Isle la Morte; brothers, Churchill and Kevin, both of Isle la Morte; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Charlotte Miller.
Hannah was predeceased by her husband, James and a son, Victor “Dickie”; sisters, Cella, Coralla, Queenie and Bessie; brothers, Ben, John Wallace, Clifford and Jim.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Saturday, 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in St. Alban’s Church, Monday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Doug Chard officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery.
Hannah will be greatly missed by all who knew her for her kindness and thoughtful nature, especially her family.

John Watson Moore
Loving parents of the late John Watson (Wally) Moore, Jr. and Veronica Sharon Diotte (Hubert). They are lovingly remembered by their daughter-in-law, Margot Moore, Nanaimo, B.C.; grandchildren, Michelle Moore, Tara Moore and Susan Carter (Doug), Christina Diotte, Jeffrey Diotte and Lucien Diotte, as well as friends and family in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Betty and Wally’s cremated remains will be committed to their final resting place, Thursday, June 29 at 10 a.m. in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney, N.S.

92, Main-a-Dieu
Alice Joseph Mullins, 92, of Main-a-Dieu, formerly of Glace Bay, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2000, at her home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Nora (Burke) Burke of Glace Bay.
She was a longtime devout member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Main-a-Dieu.
Surviving are four daughters, Sr. Audrey, Sydney, Noreen (Gordon) Matheson, Boston, Olive (Dimitri) Pojidaeff, Mary, Main-a-Dieu; five sons, Benjamin (Joyce). Main-a-Dieu, Peter (Loretta), Main-a-Dieu, Edmund (Doreen), Bateston, James (Neila), Bateston, Paul (Frances), Catalone; one sister, Elizabeth MacNeil, Glace Bay.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Arlene, Michael, John, Boston, Benjie, Peter C., Eileen, Audrey P., Main-a-Dieu, Alana, Peter Ed, James Leo, Bateston, Paul Andrew, Alice Marie, Catalone and Mary Alice, Edmonton and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter, son, William Leo, in infancy, grandson, Dimitri, brother, William and three sisters, Helen, Cecilia and Mary.
The late Mrs. Mullins will have visitation from 7-9 p.m. Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church.
Funeral mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Immaculate Conception Church, Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Internment in the parish cemetery, Main-a-Dieu, under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Donations may be made to the Parish Cemetery Fund, Cape Breton Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
