Angus Hector Pyke
59, Sydney
Angus Hector Pyke, 59, of Victoria Road, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney, he was the son was of the late Edward and Jessie Mae (MacDonald) Pyke.
Angus was retired from the CN Railway and a member of Trinity United Church.
Surviving are his sons, Angus, Jim and John, at home, and Allan, Northwest Territories; sisters, Josephine (Roddie) MacDonald, Margaret Corbett and Dora Burke, Sydney and Hannah MacDonald and Kay Fitzgerald, Bathurst, N.B.; brothers, John (Margie) and Arthur, Sydney and Archie MacDonald, Westmount, and also, one grandchild, Gregory.
Angus was predeceased by his wife, Lovie (Corbett) and sister, Hennie Ann Spin.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in Trinity United Church, Saturday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating. Internment at a later date.
He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Keith M. Roper
78, Ingonish
Keith M. Roper, 78, of Ingonish, passed away at the Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, June 21, 2000.
Born in Ingonish, he was the son of the late Harvey and Mary (MacGean) Roper.
Keith was a member of the Ingonish United Church. He loved boat building and fishing, which he did for most of his life. He was a former Victoria County councillor and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Keith was always ready to help anybody who needed it and will be remembered for his kind heart, generosity and for his storytelling.
Mr. Roper is survived by his five brothers, Jim (Bev), Gary, Ind., Earl (Donna), Carl (Mary), both of Ingonish, Stewart (Louise), Eddie (Florence), both of Port Alice, B.C.; three sisters, Pearl (Steve Wagner), Gary, Ind., Jeanette (George MacLean), Sydney, Diane (Gordon MacLean), Ingonish. Also survived by 42 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews, whom he adored, and were a great pleasure and enjoyment for him.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Ben, Glady, Emerson, three sisters, Valda, Hilda and Christy.
Visitation for the late Mr. Roper will take place today (Friday), 2-3 p.m. in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, North Ingonish. Cremation will follow. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Ingonish United Church with Rev. Chris McCann officiating. Burial in the Ingonish United Church Cemetery.
Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour or to the charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home.
Mrs. Evelyn Young (Corbett)
Evelyn passed away June 19, 2000 at Brockville General.
She was the daughter of the late Pierce and Mary Anne Corbett of Dominion.
She was predeceased by her husband, James and a son, James, six brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by sons, Pierce, Jimmie, Teddy, daughters, Evelyn and Linda, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Morton, Maine, Bernette (Mrs. Melvin Currie), Dominion.
She was a devoted woman to the holy rosary.
Mass of requiem was celebrated at St. Lawrence O’Tool Church by Fr. Rod Arsenault. Internment took place in Prescott, Ont.

Denise Baggio
85, Dominion
Denise Baggio, 85, a resident of the Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney and a long time resident of Wilson’s Lane, Dominion, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at the home.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elaine (Deruelle) Vansfield.
She was a member of St. Eugene’s Parish.
Denise dedicated her life to her family and community. She was past president of the Ladies’ Italian Community Club, past president of St. Eugene’s CWL and past vice-president of the Dominion Pensioners Club. She was also awarded Citizen of the Year by the Dominion Kinsmen Club.
Survived by two sons, Romano (Dorothy), Port Hood, Leo, Sydney; one daughter, Sylvia (Frank) Frigo, Stoney Creek, Ont.; one sister, Irma Gillis, Mission, B.C.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Condo, sister, Regina Hogan, two brothers, Leo and Joe, as well as a daughter-in-law, Maria.
Visitation will be in Curry’s Funeral Home Ltd., 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Monday, 11 a.m. in St. Eugene’s Church. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

Adeline (Boutilier) Gould
84, Glace Bay
Adeline Gould, 84 of Sterling Road, Glace Bay, passed away Friday, June 23, 2000, in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (McIntyre) Boutilier. She was a member of Saint Anthony’s Church.
She is survived by her sons, John Joseph, Archibald (Mary), Albert (Cindy), Wesley (Mabel), Brian (Carolyn), Pat (Chris), Art (Felicity) McInnis; daughters, Shirley (Lenord) Larkham and Adeline (Jed) MacDonaId; son-in-law, Jack Daisley; daughter-in-law, Clara Gould.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Archibald; sons, Norbert and Billy; daughters, Mary and Deborah.
There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Gould. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.

Viola Jessome
82, Sydney Mines
Viola Jessome, 82, a resident of Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, formerly of Bras d’Or Road, Florence, died peacefully, Friday, June 23, 2000, at the manor.
Born in Florence, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Isabel (Pero) Jessome.
She was a member of St. Stephen’s Parish, Florence and is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was dearly loved and will be sadly missed.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, with the Rev. A.D. Campbell officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
