John P. (Jackie) MacInnis
66, Little Narrows
John P. (Jackie) MacInnis passed away Thursday, June 22, 2000 at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, peacefully with his family at his side.
He was born in Little Narrows, son of the late John E. and Harriet (Stubbs) MacInnis.
He worked for the Little Narrows Gypsum Company for 35 years as an electrician/mechanic and maintenance foreman. He was a member and past member of SIRCOM Lodge 66, Whycocomagh; a member of the Cape Breton Lodge of Perfection and the Isle Royale Chapter of Rose Croix, the Nova Scotia Consistory Philae Temple Shriners and the Causeway Shrine Club.
He was an avid horseman, owner and driver, a former member of the United States Trotting Association and a member of the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church. He also enjoyed music.
He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Johnston; daughter, Wanda (Ian) MacLean, Queensville; son, Barry (Theresa); granddaughter, Amanda, Aberdeen; sisters, Harriet (Joe) Livingston, Waltham, Mass., Phyllis (Jack) Bryan, Manitoulin Island, Ont.; brother, Malcolm (Rae), Little Narrows; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Cecil, twins Angus (Gussie) and Aulay, nephew, Cecil.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Masonic service 6:45 p.m. today, both at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church, Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial in the Little Narrows Cemetery. Family flowers only.
Memorial donations may be made to the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Hospice Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Lung Association.

Veronica (Mackie) MacNeil
February 8, 1916 - June 16, 2000
Veronica left us and went to Him on June 16th after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Dominion, Cape Breton, N.S., Canada. The daughter of the late Neil and Elizabeth Mackie, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1956. She resided in Waltham, Mass., and for the past 30 years she has lived in the Barrington/Nottingham, N.H., area.
Veronica is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dennis; three children, Barry MacNeil, Sudbury, Mass., Terry MacNeil, Wayland, Mass. and Brenda Birckholtz, Kingston, N.H. She has six grandchildren, Brian, Ryan, Connor, Erik, Jared and Kristen. She is also survived by three brothers, Dan, Cliff, and Leonard Mackie, also many nieces and nephews.
Veronica will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Her faith in God, caring ways, and humour touched many lives.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Rochester/Rural District VNS and Hospice, Farmington, for their compassionate care and comfort during Veronica’s illness. We would also like to thank all those who prayed, sent meals, cards, and showed many other acts of kindness.
Veronica’s life can be summed up in the following Scripture, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”
Ecclesiastes 9:10.

John Watson Moore
Loving parents of the late John Watson (Wally) Moore, Jr. and Veronica Sharon Diotte (Hubert). They are lovingly remembered by their daughter-in-law, Margot Moore, Nanaimo, B.C.; grandchildren, Michelle Moore, Tara Moore and Susan Carter (Doug), Christina Diotte, Jeffrey Diotte and Lucien Diotte, as well as friends and family in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Betty and Wally’s cremated remains will be committed to their final resting place, Thursday, June 29 at 10 a.m. in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney, N.S.
Emma Ojoleck
81, Sydney
Emma Ojoleck, 81, formerly of 271 Lingan Rd., Sydney, died peacefully, at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Thursday, June 22, 2000.
Born in Vác, Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Ferenc and Julia (Mészaros) Kiss.
In 1929, Emma immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings, settling in New Waterford. She received her high school education at St. Agnes School, and worked for several years at Favretto’s Store.
In 1939, she married John Ojoleck of Sydney, and throughout her lifetime was an active member of her parish community. Over the years she treated many with her hospitality and baking and maintained an active correspondence with her relatives in Hungary.
Emma is survived by daughter, Donna (Charles) Collins, Tantallon, N.S.; sons, Robert (Kathy) Ojolick, Coxheath, N.S. and Dr. Michael (Ethel), Judique, N.S.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, sisters, Madeline (Mrs. Fred Abbass), Margaret (Mrs. John Horvath), brothers, Laddie and Frank.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Raymond Lok, the nurses and support staff at the ICMH who contributed to Emma’s care and comfort.
Visitation will be Monday, June 26 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass, Tuesday, at Holy Ghost Parish, Whitney Pier, at 11 a.m. Fr. Rudnick officiating. Interment afterwards at Forest Haven Cemetery.

Matthew Forrest Vickers
88, Sydney Mines
Matthew Forrest Vickers, 88, of 140 Atlantic St., Sydney Mines, passed away at the Northside General Hospital, June 23, 2000, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary Ellen (Forrest) Vickers.
He was a member of Carman United Church and at one time served as caretaker, was a member of the session and the couples club of Carman Church. He was an avid sportsman playing soccer and hockey with the “Brooklyn Ave. Swifts” and was an active bowler with the Sydney Mines Men’s League, colliery league and legion bowling league.
A veteran of the Second World War, he served with the 85th Bridge Company in the United Kingdom and Western Europe. He was a member of Breton Branch 008, Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines and the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club. He was employed at Princess Colliery until early retirement in 1967 due to health reasons.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Freda (Wolstendholme); daughter, Marlene (Sam) Chapdelaine, Sydney; four sons, Matthew Jr. (Betty), Groves Point, Ronnie (Charlene), Englishtown, Tom, Georges River, Tim (Trudy), North Sydney; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Olive Legere, Vancouver; brothers, Russell and Stan, both of Sydney Mines.
He was predeceased by sisters, Mildred MacKay, Thelma Brown and Greta Clark and brothers, Harry (Buster), Percy, Murray, Purvis and Raymond.
Visitation will be in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Saturday, 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday, 2 p.m. in Carman United Church with the Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Carman United Church or to the charity of choice.
Anastasia Mary Cuddihy (nee Corbett)
78, Sydney
Anastasia Mary, daughter of the late Bartholomew and Catherine Corbett, died Saturday, June 24th, 2000, at home.
Born Dec. 7th, 1921, in Holyrood, Nfld., she moved to Sydney in 1939. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Whitney Pier.
She is survived by six daughters, Mary (Greg) O’Keefe, Sydney River, Helen (Fred) Warner, Westmount, Catherine (Leonard) Hickey, Harbour Breton, Nfld., Maureen (Ronald) Poirier, Sydney, Theresa (James) Smith, Mt. Pearl, Nfld., and Madonna, Moncton, N.B.; three sons, Thomas (Catherine), James and Walter (Elva), all of Sydney. She is also survived by her brother Ambrose (Gertie), Sydney, and sisters, Catherine, Sydney, Theresa (Angus) MacLean, Howie Centre; fifteen grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James in 1985, her daughter Patricia, sister Mary and brothers, Bartholomew and William Corbett.
Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel Monday (tonight) from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday 2-4, 7-9. p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations to Hospice/Palliative Care Society or any charity are suggested as memorials.
