Robert E. Donovan
85, North Sydney
Robert Everett Donovan, 85, a resident of Forman St., North Sydney, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Ingonish Beach, he was the son of the late William and Caroline (McGean) Donovan.
He was employed as a stevedore with C.N. Marine, North Sydney, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. He was a participant in the Harbourview Hospital Day Care Program.
Surviving are two sisters, Rachel Whitty, North Sydney, and Bernadette (Bernie) Mrs. Ambrose Whitty, Ingonish.
Also by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Ethel (Scott) Donovan, brothers, John, Jim and Patrick in infancy, sisters Helen, Martha and Bridget.
Visitation was Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass Monday (today) 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Margaret May Greencorn
101, Port Hawkesbury
Margaret May Greencorn, 101, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in Port Hawkesbury, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Christina (MacLellan) MacEachern. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Port Hawkesbury.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Brown, Toronto, Florence Cain, Hamilton; sons, Alex (Myrtle), Port Hastings, John, Port Hawkesbury, Ted (Mary Annette), Port Hawkesbury, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ted Greencorn Sr., sister, Florence Miller, brothers, John Dan, Alex, Dan A., John R., and Duncan, sons-in-law, Jack Brown and James Cain.
Visitation was Sunday from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J.F. Greene Funeral Services Ltd., Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.

Olive Beatrice Mumford
81, Sydney
Olive Beatrice Mumford, 81, of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of Keltic Drive, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2000, at the home.
Olive was born in Noel Shore, Hants Co. She was a daughter of the late Fenton and Bessie (Church) Tomlinson. She was the last surviving member of her family.
She is survived by one daughter, Claudia (Francis) Gillis, Sydney; three sons, Frank (Nancy), Truro, John (Evelyn), St. John, N.B., and Keith, Debert; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde Alexander Mumford, a son and a daughter in infancy, her sister, Annie, seven brothers, Byron, Chester, Ralph, Arthur, Lawrence, Frank, and Frederick.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m., with visitation at East Noel Funeral Home Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m., where a memorial service will be held on Wednesday 1 p.m. Interment will be held for Clyde and Olive Mumford in Oak Island Cemetery following the service.
Memorials may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.

John Watson Moore
Loving parents of the late John Watson (Wally) Moore, Jr. and Veronica Sharon Diotte (Hubert). They are lovingly remembered by their daughter-in-law, Margot Moore, Nanaimo, B.C.; grandchildren, Michelle Moore, Tara Moore and Susan Carter (Doug), Christina Diotte, Jeffrey Diotte and Lucien Diotte, as well as friends and family in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Betty and Wally’s cremated remains will be committed to their final resting place, Thursday, June 29, at 10 a.m. in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney, N.S.

Emma Ojoleck
81, Sydney
Emma Ojoleck, 81, formerly of 271 Lingan Rd., Sydney, died peacefully, at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Thursday, June 22, 2000.
Born in Vác, Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Ferenc and Julia (Mészaros) Kiss.
In 1929, Emma immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings, settling in New Waterford. She received her high school education at St. Agnes School, and worked for several years at Favretto’s Store.
In 1939, she married John Ojoleck of Sydney, and throughout her lifetime was an active member of her parish community. Over the years she treated many with her hospitality and baking and maintained an active correspondence with her relatives in Hungary.
Emma is survived by daughter, Donna (Charles) Collins, Tantallon, N.S.; sons, Robert (Kathy) Ojolick, Coxheath, N.S., and Dr. Michael (Ethel), Judique, N.S.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, sisters, Madeline (Mrs. Fred Abbass), Margaret (Mrs. John Horvath), brothers, Laddie and Frank.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Raymond Lok, the nurses and support staff at the ICMH who contributed to Emma’s care and comfort.
Visitation will be today (Monday) at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Panachyda Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass, Tuesday, at Holy Ghost Parish, Whitney Pier, at 11 a.m. Fr. Rudnick officiating. Interment afterwards at Forest Haven Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to the Ukrainian Holy Ghost Parish, West Street, Sydney, the Inverness Hospital Auxiliary, Inverness, B0E 1N0; or the Alzheimers Association.

John Thomas (Jack) Fitzgerald
69, Sydney
John Thomas Fitzgerald, 69, of Herbert Street, Sydney, died peacefully in the presence of his family, Sunday, June 25, 2000, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Tilton, Nfld., he was the son of the late John Joseph and Mary (Murray) Fitzgerald.
John retired in 1989 after more than 30 years service with the CNR and the Public Service of Canada.
John’s strong faith was a source of strength and peace to him in his last days. He was a devout believer in God’s love and was very proud of his tenure as a Eucharist minister at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney.
The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Delores’ friend, Betty Whalen, and their neighbours, Bruce and Charlotte Mortimer, who have been a wonderful comfort and support to them during John’s illness.
John is survived by his wife, Delores (Gallaway) and was the loving and devoted father of one daughter, Darlene (Stephen), Sydney; and two sons, Brian (Natalie), Halifax and John Brent (Lindsay), Calgary; five grandchildren, Julianne, Samantha, Bradley, Matthew and Kitana; two sisters, Ann Reynolds, Sydney, Marie Hogan, Ontario; and two brothers, Michael, Sydney and Ronald, Detroit.
Visitation will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Tuesday 7-9 p.m. Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations to C.B. Palliative Care Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
