Veronica (Mackie) MacNeil
Dominion/New Waterford
Veronica left us and went to Him on June 16th after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Dominion, Cape Breton, N.S., Canada. The daughter of the late Neil and Elizabeth Mackie, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1956. She resided in Waltham, Mass., and for the past 30 years she has lived in the Barrington/Nottingham, N.H., area.
Veronica is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dennis; three children, Barry MacNeil, Sudbury, Mass., Terry MacNeil, Wayland, Mass. and Brenda Birckholtz, Kingston, N.H. She has six grandchildren, Brian, Ryan, Connor, Erik, Jared and Kristen. She is also survived by three brothers, Dan, Cliff, and Leonard Mackie, also many nieces and nephews.
Veronica will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Her faith in God, caring ways, and humour touched many lives.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Rochester/Rural District VNS and Hospice, Farmington, for their compassionate care and comfort during Veronica’s illness. We would also like to thank all those who prayed, sent meals, cards, and showed many other acts of kindness.
Veronica’s life can be summed up in the following Scripture, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”
Ecclesiastes 9:10.

Mary Jesse (Mamie) MacPhee-Westwood
New Waterford
Mary Jesse (Mamie) MacPhee-Westwood, 80, of 2420 Lingan Road, RR No. 1, New Waterford, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford she was the daughter of the late John Archie (Jack) and Mary Jesse (Johnston) MacPhee. She was a member of Mount Carmel Church. She was a former member of St. Agnes CWL, New Waterford Pensioners, Gaelic Society, Aging Gracefully and CNIB. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by daughters, Eva (Edward) Tracey, Margaret (Frankie) Cooke, Audrey (Raymond) Westwood, Norine Westwood and Carol (Keith) Westwood, Brampton, Ont.; sons, Francis (Marguerite) Westwood, Reg (Joan) Westwood and John (Lorraine) Westwood; grandchildren, Lisa, Reg, Dionne, Frankie, Amy, Maggie, Heather, Stephen, Jeffrey, Curtis, Johnna, Jenna, Wesley and great-grandchild, Avery.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Aubrey Westwood, brothers, James, Roddie and Mickey, sister, Margaret and granddaughter, Sarah.
Visitation will be held Thursday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Cremation will follow. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the CNIB.
Marjorie A. Nicholson
88, North Sydney
Marjorie A. Nicholson, 88, a resident of King Street, North Sydney, died peacefully Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at her home surrounded by her family.
Visitation for Mrs. Nicholson will be today from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced in the Thursday edition of the Post.
Raymond Skinner
91, Baddeck
Mr. Raymond Skinner, age 91, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at his residence, the Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck.
Born in Richard’s Harbour, Nfld., he was the son of the late William and Caroline Skinner.
He was a member of the Cape North United Church and resided in Dingwall for 50 years. He was a fisherman and at one time was a crew member of the SS Aspy. He also worked for the National Gypsum Company and Dingwall Fisheries.
He is survived by daughters, Ida (Tom) Skinner, Irene (Chesley) Quinlan, son Alie (Rose) Skinner, 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, all in Newfoundland.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Sarah Knoll and his second wife, Eliza Turner.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service and burial, under the direction of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home will be at a later date.
Norah Kelland
Glace Bay
Norah Kelland, 82, of 105 Beacon St., Glace Bay, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Clark) Snook.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Mrs. Kelland was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Kelland, Pauline Kelland, both of Glace Bay and Muriel (Gordon) Vokey, Ontario; sons, Ellis, Mark, both of Glace Bay and Donald, Sydney; grandchildren, Dale, Joy, Wanda, Shauna, Ellis, Cathy, Christopher and Clayton and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Mark, son, Charles, brothers, Robert, John, Israel, Harry and Leonard.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Kelland will be held Friday 2-4, 7-9 p m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Canon Fev Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Any memorials or donations in Norah’s memory may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of choice.
Florence C. MacKinnon
Sydney
Florence MacKinnon of Sydney, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, June 25/00.
Born at Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Jessie (Kennedy) Campbell.
She was a 25-year member of the Saint Anthony Daniel Parish CWL.
She is survived by three daughters, Paula, Zurich, Switzerland, Joan, Halifax and Barbara, Sydney, two sons, Frank, British Virgin Islands and Bill, Fall River, N.S. She is also survived by one sister, Marguerite Dunn, Edmonton, Alta.; one brother, Donald Campbell, Port Hawkesbury and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eddy (Peter), a daughter, Betty Jean, brothers, Jim, Joe, Bernard and Frank (Bing) and sisters, Gertrude, Tina and Agnes.
Her presence and kindness will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held Friday, June 30/00 at 11 a.m. at Saint Anthony Daniel Church with Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Burial and reception to follow. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
