Mary Catherine MacLellan

Mary Catherine MacLellan, 85, of 160 Neville St., Dominion, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Inverness, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Bennett) Smith.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. She was a former member of TOPS. Mary captivated both family and friends with her great storytelling.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Georgina (Mrs. Mick Donnelly), Inverness, Veronica (Mrs. John Brushett), St. Peter’s and Anne Vergeron, Sydney; sons, Johnnie (Yvonne), Glace Bay, Murdock, Toronto, Wayne (Danielle), Dominion, and Gary, Halifax; daughters-in-law, Johnnena (Mrs. Willard MacLellan) and Shirley (Mrs. Archie MacLellan Jr.); 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Archibald, son, Archie Jr., daughter, Mildred, stepson, Burt Saunders, daughter-in-law, Geraldine, brothers, Jimmy, Peter, Murdock, Hughie, John Alex (Fifty).
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacLellan will be held Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Bridgeport.
Donations in Mary’s memory to Canadian Diabetes Association are suggested as an expression of sympathy.
Lillian (Mae) Ross Magee
81, Louisbourg
Lillian (Mae) Ross Magee, 81, of Louisbourg, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Louisbourg, she was the daughter of the late John Alex and Mabel (MacDonald) Ross, formerly Mabel Holland. She was a member of the First United Church, Louisbourg.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (David Spencer), Sydney; one son, Danny (Darlene), West Bay; grandsons, Daniel and Justin; a sister, Margaret McMullin and a brother, Michael Holland. She is also survived by her special friend, Anna Simms.
Mom you will always be remembered and sadly missed.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard, a brother, D.J. Holland and a sister, Margaret Etta Ross.
Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in First United Church, Main Street, Louisbourg. Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in First United Church with Rev. Clayton Austin officiating. Interment to follow in Willow Grove Cemetery, Louisbourg.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.A. Chant Funeral Home.

Melba Gertrude Martin
81, Sydney
Melba Gertrude Martin, 81, Willow Street, Sydney, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the Cape Breton Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Chelsea, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Alice (Noel) Hudson.
As a young child, Melba moved to Cape Breton with her parents where she resided and raised her family. She was a member of the First United Church and was retired from the Laundry Department of the City Hospital.
Surviving are her daughters, Jean Martin, Sydney, Marie (Frank) Bonazza, Malton, Ont., Katherine Giles, Sydney, and Deborah (Glen) Dowling, Sydney River; sons, Harold, Greenwood, N.S. and Kenneth (Shirley), Brampton, Ont.; a sister, Sophie Aucoin, Boston; 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Melba was predeceased by her husband, Noah, a son, Raymond, sisters, Evelyn Black and Mary Catherine, and a brother, Stanley.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Saturday 10:30 a.m., Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
Marjorie A. Nicholson
88, North Sydney
We celebrate the life and mourn the death of Marjorie Adelaide Nicholson, 88, a resident of King Street, North Sydney, which occurred Tuesday June 27, 2000, at her home.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late William G. and Adelaide (MacKenzie) Parsons.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney and involved for many years as a member of the CWL, Children of Mary and ladies auxiliary of the St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Surviving are three daughters, Jane, North Sydney, Judy (Mrs. Donnie Murphy), Mira, Catherine (Mrs. Will Monchuk), Edmonton; two sons, Bill (Mary Lou), Ironville, Rick (Pam), North Sydney; a sister, Marion Gallop, Barrie, Ont.; nine grandchildren, Janie MacKinnon, Shane Goudie, Gemma Nicholson, Jessica Nicholson, Judy Ann Monchuk, Dennis Monchuk, Kelly Howie, Mary Beth Nicholson and Jennifer Nicholson; four step-grandchildren, Terrance Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Maureen Pickup and Susan Murphy. Also by nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Neil J. Nicholson, three brothers, Donnie, Kenny and Horace in infancy, one sister, Bertha Wilkie.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass Friday 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made the Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton, Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of one’s choice.
Bernard Joseph Aucoin
82, Sydney
Bernard Joseph Aucoin, 82, of the MacGillivray Guest Home, Sydney, formerly of 27 Xavier Dr., Sydney, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Sydney, he was the son of the late Severin Aucoin and Rose (Larade) Aucoin of Sydney.
He was a member of Saint Anthony Daniel Parish.
Bernie retired from Sysco Railroad after 47 1/2 years of service. He was a member of the Parkinson’s Society. Bernie loved fishing and hunting, was an avid bowler and skater and a big fan of the Montreal Canadiens.
He was a loving father and beloved husband who brought much happiness to all who knew him with his generosity, kindness and his loving smile.
He is survived by his wife, the former Florence (Sis) Ling; one daughter, Gerarda (Norman) Kozera, Sydney; two sons, John ‘Berky’ (Suzanne), Kanata, Ont. and Kevin (Heather), Sydney. He was also survived by four grandchildren, John, Michelle, Denise and Kenzie; one great-grandson, Stevie, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Mary French and two brothers, Raymond and Wilfred.
Visitation for the late Mr. Aucoin will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, George Street, Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Saint Anthony Daniel Church with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Marie Campbell
78, New Waterford
Marie Campbell, 78, of 409 2nd St., New Waterford, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, June 28, 2000, with her family by her side.
She was born in New Waterford and was a member of Saint Agnes Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Doreen (Mrs. John ‘Jackie’ Harper, Bras d’Or, Francie Ann (Sidney), Pickering, Ont., Colleen, New Waterford; four sons Jermine (Bernadette ‘Makeo’), Halifax, Murgie (Beth), New Waterford, Sheldon (Linda), Harve Boucher, and Gordon (Theresa), New Waterford. Also surviving are brother, Jeremiah Ryan, New Waterford; half-brother, Duncan MacEachern, Sydney Mines and by 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, brother, Hugh Ryan and three sisters, Maggie, Cecelia and Mary and by twin boys, Sheldon and Martin in infancy.
Visitation for the late Marie Campbell will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a m. in Saint Agnes Church with Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
