G. Gregory Wiseman
44, Digby/Glace Bay
G. Gregory (Greg) Wiseman, 44, of Digby, N.S., died Wednesday, May 3, 2000.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of Mary (MacIntyre) and the late John William Wiseman.
He was employed for over 24 years with the Department of Social Services, Province of Nova Scotia and he worked in Sydney, Port Hawkesbury, Guysborough, Digby and Kentville. He is a graduate of St. Michael’s High School, Glace Bay, St. F.X. University and Dalhousie University.
Besides his mother, Mary, he is survived by his wife, the former Lee Churchill and a daughter, Sarah Catherine; brothers, William (Margaret), Sydney, James (Rae Lee), Upper Marlborough, MD and Donald (Bernadette), Glace Bay; sisters, Theresa Gertrude Nutter, Raleigh, N.C., Betty (Cy) Doucette, Riverview, N.B., Joan (Bill) Gillis, Antigonish and June (Robert) Thomas, Dartmouth.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by a brother, John Joseph (Bob).
There will be no visitation. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated in St. Anne’s Church, Monday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Glace Bay Food Bank or a charity of one’s choice.

Edgar Wellington Bennett
85, Sydney Mines
Mr. Edgar Wellington Bennett, 85, of Yorke St., Sydney Mines, passed away Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Boyd) Bennett.
He was a member of the Official Board, Worship Committee, Session, Choir, and the Couples Club, of Carman United Church, Sydney Mines. He was also a member of the Grace Fellowship Men’s Choir. He retired from Devco in 1975. Edgar was an avid sportsman, playing rugby and coaching and playing hockey for many years. He was a long-time member of the Sydney Mines Men’s Bowling League as well as the Colliery Bowling League. In later years he was an active member of the Pensioners Club and played guitar in the Pensioners Fun Band.
He is survived by his wife Jessie (Wolstenholme), daughters, Viola, Rodina (Wilson) Gardner, Lorna (Ernest) Ings, all of Sydney Mines, sons, Edgar Jr. (Mary), Sydney, Howard (Glenda), Halifax, Allister (Kathleen), North Sydney, sisters, Hulda (the late Henry) Blackie, Sydney Mines, Phyllis (John) MacMullin and Joan (Leonard) Guy, North Sydney, brothers, Wilfred (Isa), California, Roddie (Grace), Sydney Mines, Floyd, North Sydney, Russell (Helen), North Sydney, and Alex (Mabel), Sydney Mines. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren and great-grandson Ryan MacDonald, who will all dearly miss their Poppie.
He was predeceased by a sister Sadie (Murdock) Gillies of Sydney and a brother Arthur Jr. of Kempt Head.
Visitation will be in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home Monday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Carman United Church with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Carman United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of choice.
Angus (Godfrey) Cameron
60, River Ryan
Angus (Godfrey) Cameron, 60, of 18 David St., River Ryan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday, May 7, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Angus and Clara (Lee) Cameron. Godfrey was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in River Ryan. He worked as a coal miner until a mine accident in #12 Colliery forced him to retire in 1959.
Godfrey was a devoted family man and he will be sadly missed by his wife of 39 years the former Ann Currie, three daughters, Diane Murray (Blair), Donna, Darlene (Tommy), all of River Ryan, grandchildren, Ryan, Joshua, Lydia, Blair Jr., all of River Ryan and Laurie of Alberta. He is also survived by brothers, Allie Joe (Ann), Ontario, and his special buddy and brother Stanley “Timo” (Marilyn), River Ryan and one aunt Carmella Lee.
He was predeceased by a sister Ilene and a brother Palmer.
Godfrey was well known by his friends and neighbours for his love of music, playing fiddle was his life’s passion. He gave back to his community by playing at many benefit concerts over the years.
Visitation for the late Godfrey Cameron will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St. New Waterford, Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Hugh Wallis (Wallie) Ingraham
80, North Sydney
Hugh Wallis (Wallie) Ingraham, 80, a resident of View St., North Sydney, died peacefully at home surrounded by is family Sunday, May 7, 2000, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was the son of the late Wilson (Billy) and Myrtle (Vooght) Ingraham. He served his country faithfully in the Second World War, enlisting with the Canadian Army in 1939 and serving overseas as a Canloan Officer with the British Army until wounded in Germany.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Jimmy, and Wilbert, a sister Caryl (Cumming).
He is survived by his loving wife Lillian (Noble), daughter, Lynne (Wayne) Bell, Bowling Green, Ohio, son, Bill (Peggy), North Sydney, grandchildren, David, Peter and Heather Bell, Lily, Jacob, Maggie and Michael Ingraham, a great-granddaughter, Emily, sister Eva West, North Sydney and a brother Eric, Winnipeg.
Wallie was a long-time member of the Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs of North Sydney, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #19 North Sydney. He owned and operated Ingrahams United until his retirement in 1987. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed many hours of fly fishing on local streams and rivers. Many would remember him from his long daily walks. His greatest love was his unconditional love for his family and dear friends. He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and true friend.
Visitation Tuesday 2 to 4, 7 to 9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral Service Wednesday 2 p.m. at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care of Cape Breton or to the Diabetic Clinic at the Northside General Hospital.
Lillian Beatrice Lahey
75, Main-a-Dieu
Lillian Beatrice Lahey, 75, Main-a-Dieu, passed away Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Theresa (Trimm) Wadden. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Main-a-Dieu.
She is survived by six sons, Sandy (Phyllis), Ontario, Bill (Karen), Louisbourg, George (Diane), Charlie (Amy), Herman (Tina), Halifax, Angus (Melinda), Mira, two daughters, Lillian (Mrs. Albert Bussey), Louisbourg, Valerie (Mrs. Leslie Roach), at home, and also by her 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Mike, Allister, Charlie, Lloyd and Stanley, sisters, Margaret, Mary, and Yvonne.
She was predeceased by her husband George.
Visitation took place Sunday, May 7, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, Main-a-Dieu. Funeral service to be held today (Monday) at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish with Fr. Peter LeBlanc officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.A. Chant Funeral Home, Louisbourg.
Beat will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Roland Willard Lewis
Westmount
Roland Willard Lewis died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family at the Cape Breton Hospital on Saturday, May 6, 2000.
Born in Westmount, he was a son of the late Gerald and Maude (Stapleton) Lewis.
Rollie, as he was known to everyone, is survived by his wife the former Marie MacNeil, daughters, Donna LeLievre, Sydney, Debra (Bernie) Chiasson, Blacketts Lake, Diane McKay, Coxheath, son, Gary (Cheryl), Sydney, grandchildren, Sean and Michael LeLievre, Ciana and Erin Chiasson, Matthew, Alana and Julian McKay. Also surviving are sisters, Irene Leon, Sydney, Norma (John) O’Leary, California, brothers, Lloyd (Marion), Westmount, Bernard (Jean), New Minas and Sinclair (Alice), Westmount. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Gerald.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
There will be a memorial mass held at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, Friday, May 12, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dan MacInnis officiating. Interment in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Palliative care or charity of choice.
