Annie L. MacNeil
70, Ottawa Brook
Annie Loretta (Bonaparte) MacNeil, passed away at home Wednesday, May 10, 2000, after a short battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Mary (Mombourquette) and Joseph Bonaparte.
Annie was a member of Sacred Heart Mission Church, MacKinnon Harbour, and St. Columba Parish, Iona. She was also a volunteer of the CYO group MacKinnon Harbour and Rankin Memorial Home and School Association. She was a homemaker and a loving and devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband, Michael J. (Shortie); one daughter, Sadie Marie (Franklin MacNeil), Ottawa Brook; five sons, Dan Joseph (Charlene), Washabuck, Colin (Wendy), Ottawa Brook, Hector (Nancy), Sydney Mines, Gregory (Elizabeth), Jamesville, Neil James (Lorraine), Ottawa Brook. She was grandmother to 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Surviving members of her immediate family are sisters, Cecilia MacNeil, Red Point, Kathleen MacLean, Ottawa Brook, Nora Gange, Ottawa Brook, Rita MacInnis, Sydney; brothers, Abe and Leo Bonaparte, both of MacKinnon Harbour.
She was predeceased by sisters, Bertha MacLeod and Anna Bailey, also brothers, Charlie and Felix, an infant brother and an infant sister.
Remains will be resting at Sacred Heart Mission Church, MacKinnon Harbour, where visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Mission Church with Fr. Fred Morley officiating.
Donations may be made to the Victoria County Hospice Society or to a charity of your choice.
Annie said many prayers for family and friends, may she receive just as much reward in heaven for her dedication to her faith. May she rest in peace.

Michael (Mickey) Muise
73, New Waterford
Michael (Mickey) Muise, 73, of 3523 Ross Ave., New Waterford, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Alexander and Ellen (Desveaux) Muise.
Mickey was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a member of Saint Agnes Parish where he served as warden of the parish and at one time was the former president of the Saint Agnes Men’s Club. Mickey served as an usher and was the first lay Eucharistic minister in Saint Agnes Parish.
He went to work at the early age of 15 where he worked in No. 16 mine for 20 years and seven years in No. 12 mine. After his leave from the mines he attended Xavier College on a Devco scholarship in Sydney for three years. He then attended Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish studying for Adult Education. Mickey then worked at the Boys’ Residential Center in New Waterford from 1974 until his retirement in 1987.
Mickey was an avid fly fisherman in his younger days. After retirement he took up bird watching and had a lot of beautiful feathered friends. He was an active volunteer of the New Waterford Historical Society. Mickey was an Honourary Lifetime member of the Nova Scotia NDP and worked on countless federal and provincial election campaigns.
He is survived by his wife, the former Eileen MacNeil; one son, Greg, Victoria Mines; one daughter, Denise Quigley, Scotchtown; two grandchildren, Nadine and Nicole Quigley, Scotchtown, who were the pride and joy of his life.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Viola (Martin Bruce), Marjorie and two sisters in infancy, one brother, Wilfred (Lail).
Visitation will take place at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Agnes Church, Saturday, 10 a.m. with Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Agnes Building Fund.

(Ada) Edith Mary (Hardy-Best) Gillis
Ingonish
(Ada) Edith Gillis, 77, of Sydney, formerly of Ingonish, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
The late Mrs. Gillis was also predeceased by a brother, Stan Hardy.

Isabel Mary O'Reily
91, New Waterford
Isabel Mary O’Reilly, 91, a resident of Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay, formerly of 3142 Nicholson Ave., New Waterford, died Wednesday May 10, 2000, at Taigh Na Mara.
Born in Placentia, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late William F. and Isabel (Sinnott) O’Reilly.
Ms. O’Reilly served overseas during the Second World War as a registered nurse with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. She worked in the Royal Vic Hospital, Montreal and did private duty in various parts of the United States.
Isabel was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are nephews, James Cunningham, John Engelskinger and Charles Sacher; a niece, Mary Seery.
She was predeceased by sisters, Eleanor O’Reilly, Mary Engelskinger, Carmel Sacher, Patricia O’Reilly, Wilhelmina Cunningham, Sister Eleanor and a brother, Thomas O’Reilly.
There is no visitation. Funeral will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Sydney, Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Arrangements are under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.

Margaret Theresa MacDonald
Sydney
Margaret Theresa MacDonald, RR No. 1 MacLeod’s Hill, Sydney, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Friday, May 12, 2000.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Nora (MacDonald) Ley and the late Andrew MacDonald.
Theresa was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Whitney Pier. Her life was dedicated to caring for family and friends. She was employed for 25 years by MT&T until her retirement due to illness in 1987.
Surviving members of her family are sisters, Ann (Ed) Champion, Catherine (Bill) Bungay, Helen (Bucky) Gallant, Evelyn (Graham) MacLeod; brothers, Vince (Alice), Nick (Mary), Charles (Norma), Ottawa, John (Joanne), Englishtown. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, James and Joseph.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church, Monday, May 15 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. A private burial will take place at New Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements entrusted to T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney.

Mary Lorraine Morrison
80, Sydney Mines
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lorraine Morrison, Friday, May 12, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Catherine (MacDonald) Clark.
Born in North Sydney, she grew up in Centerville and was a lifelong resident of Sydney Mines.
She is survived by three sons, Donald, Sydney Mines, Blaine (Joanne), Kentville, N.S., Terrence (Eileen Ryan), Fredericton, N.B. and five grandchildren, Ian, Gillian, Neil, David and Gregory. She is also survived by several brothers and sisters, Edna Gordon, Allan Clark and Elmer (Mooney) Clark, all of Sydney Mines, Gladys Holly, Eurika, Pictou, N.S.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Angus James Morrison, sisters, Martha Pottle, Olive Pottle, Lillian Clark, Eva McEwan and brothers, Ernest Clark, William Clark, David Clark and Frank Clark.
Visitation will be held in Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Memorial donations may be made to the Northside General Palliative Care, the Canadian Lung Association or to a charity of choice.
