Gladys Sarah O'Rourke
73, Sydney
Gladys Sarah O’Rourke, 73, of Bryant Street, Sydney, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Grand Falls Windsor, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary Belle (Reid) George.
Gladys retired from the Dietary Dept. of St. Rita’s Hospital. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish.
Gladys is survived by her husband Arthur, two daughters, Doreen (Harold) Nicholas, Gander, Nfld. and Debbie (Donnie) Gillis, Howie Centre, a son, Fred, Westmount, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Norman and Cecil, Grand Falls Windsor, Nfld.
Gladys was predeceased by three brothers, Lloyd, Tom and Cyril.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial mass will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment will be held in Grand Falls Windsor, Nfld.
Memorials may be made to 4-B Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Frankie Conrad
50, New Waterford
Frankie Conrad, 50, of 328 Arthur St., New Waterford, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Glasgow, Frankie was the son of Margaret (Wallace) and the late Frank Sr. Conrad.
He was a member of Mount Carmel Parish, New Waterford. Frankie was a retired coal miner, having retired from Lingan and Phalen collieries. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Lingan Golf and Country Club.
Dearly loved and best friend to his wife, the former Linda Leadbetter; son, Frankie Jr. (Cathy Madden); special daughter, Noelle Hynes (Chris Cashen); loving and proud grandfather to two grandchildren, Hannah and Joshua Conrad. Also surviving are brothers, Sam (Maxine), Millan (Debbie), both of New Waterford, Stevie (Diana), Halifax; sisters, SueAnn (Jim Hawco), Halifax, Ruby (Bert) Davis, Ontario, Margie (Norm) MacMullen, Texas, Maureen (Rene) Dommestrup, Florida, Diana, Halifax, and many nieces and nephews.
Frankie had many close friends and was loved by all who knew him. He will be dearly loved and missed by all.
Remains will rest at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today (Tuesday). Funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Cecil George Fletcher
80, Sydney
Cecil George Fletcher, 80, a life-long resident of Richmond Street, Sydney, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late James and Suzanne Fletcher.
Cecil was an adherent of First United Church. He retired after 42 years in the Bar Mill Sydney Steel. He was an avid fisherman and woodcarver.
Surviving are his daughter, Darlene (Roy) Whelan, Sydney; brother, Bob, Ontario; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Whalen), sisters, Florence Mouland and Nellie Coole, and brothers, Len, Jim, and Albert.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday 2 p.m., with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Barbara May Humby
75, Sydney
Barbara May Humby, 75, Victoria Road, Sydney, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Edith (Archer) O’Connor.
Barbara was a member of Trinity United Church, Whitney Pier.
Surviving are her daughters, Arlene Humby, Sydney and Cathy (Rick) Connors, Woodstock, N.B.; and four grandchildren, David, Dennis and Samantha Campbell and Angela Connors.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Samson, sister, Rita and a brother, Harry.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church, Wednesday 3 p.m., with Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Thursday at 10 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Loaves and Fishes, the Salvation Army, or the Transition House.

Michael Kenneth LeBlanc
38, North Sydney
Kenny LeBlanc, 38, of 15 Maria St., North Sydney, died suddenly on Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of Stanley and Patricia (Harrietha) LeBlanc, Sydney Mines.
He was employed as a computer technician with the Entrepreneur Center, North Sydney. He was an umpire and volunteer with Little League Baseball in North Sydney, but most of all he liked to spend time with his daughter Stephane.
He is survived by his wife, Ann (MacNeil); his daughter, Stephane; his stepdaughters, Stella and Shauna Robinson, North Sydney; his brother-in-law, Barrie (Colleen) MacNeil; his brothers, David, Edmonton and Alex (Wanda), Sydney; his sisters, Marlene LeBlanc, Linda LeBlanc, Juanita (Edward) Whitty, all of Sydney Mines, Irene (Geoff) King, Sydney and Anita (Albert) Herridge, North Sydney; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. The funeral will take place, Thursday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
