Cora-Lee Campbell
9, Southside Boularderie
Cora-Lee Campbell, age 9, a resident of Southside Boularderie, passed away April 1, 2000, peacefully in her sleep at the I.W.K. Grace Hospital Halifax, in the arms of her loving parents, Reid and Lorelei.
Born in North Sydney, she will be dearly missed by her parents, Reid and Lorelei (MacDonald) Campbell, and her sister Kendra.
She is also survived by grandmothers Norma Campbell and Sally MacDonald and many aunts, uncles and cousins and special friend Donald Dunbar.
Cora-Lee was predeceased by her grandfathers Donald Campbell and Weldon MacDonald and by an uncle Kenny.
Cora-Lee attended St. Joseph School in Sydney Mines where she was loved by students and teachers who became her second family.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Tuesday 3 p.m. from St. John’s United Church, Big Bras d’Or with Rev. Louis Ihasz and Rev. Don MacGuire officiating. Interment in St. James cemetery Big Bras d’Or.
Memorial donations may be made to the I.W.K./Grace Hospital, the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of choice.
In her short life she touched many lives with a smile and a look that said it all.
Elizabeth Destobel
82, Gardiner Mines
Elizabeth Destobel, 82, of Gardiner Mines, passed away Saturday, Apr. 1, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Nelson) Miller. She was a member of Kingdom Hall Church of Jehovah Witness, Glace Bay.
She is survived by her husband Marcel, one daughter, Diana (Mrs. Bill McQuillan), Gardiner Mines, three sisters, Christina and Rachel, both of Toronto, and Mary of Quebec, one brother, Jimmy of Ontario, a granddaughter, Michelle (Mrs. Kelby Ernst) of Mount Uniacke, N.S., and a grandson Sheldon McQuillan of Keswick, Ont.
She is predeceased by a sister, Margaret, brothers, Charlie, Bob, Danny, Bill and Alex.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown.
Roderick (Rod) Ferguson
74, Antigonish
Roderick (Rod) Ferguson, 74, Braemore Avenue, Antigonish, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at home.
Born in Inverness, he was the son of the late Matthew and Sadie (MacDougall) Ferguson.
Early in his life he worked in his father’s family business, Matt Ferguson’s Rexall Store in Inverness, and later as a social worker with the Department of Social Services. He was a former mayor of Inverness town and a member of the Inverness Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former member of Stella Maris Parish and Stella Maris Knights of Columbus, Inverness. He was a member of St. Ninian’s Parish and St. Ninian’s Knights of Columbus. He served on the Central Board of the Family Council Services of Eastern Nova Scotia.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Dunn) Ferguson, sons, Gerard (Joan), Halifax, John (Cathy), Antigonish, Allan, Saudi Arabia, daughters, Beth (Don), Cathy (Paul), St. Andrews, Patricia (Charles), Halifax, brothers, Hughie, Detroit, Danny, Inverness, sisters, Nina and Gerry, Detroit, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by infant daughter, Mary Patricia, brother, John and sisters, Cassie, Mary, Georgina and Jessie.
Visitation will be Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Ninian’s Cathedral with Rev. Bill Crispo officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to Antigonish Right to Life or the Palliative Care Department of St. Martha’s Hospital.
Emma Elizabeth Janes

Emma Elizabeth Janes, of The Cove Guest Home, formerly of Union Street, Sydney, passed away Friday, Mar. 31, 2000, at the Home.
Born in Ingonish, she was a daughter of the late John Richard and Charlotte (Hardy) Janes.
Emma was owner/operator of Emma’s Dairy for more than 40 years, Park St. A member of Christ Anglican Parish, a 50-year member of Martha Rebekah Lodge.
Emma is survived by three nieces, Geraldine (Gerry) Janes, Westmount, Elfreda Fitzgerald, Sugarloaf, Victoria Co., and Jacqueline Smith, Collingwood, Cumberland Co.
She was predeceased by one brother Benjamin, a sister, Mabel and brother-in-law John LeDrew.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with funeral service in Christ Church Tuesday 2 p.m. with Rev Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.

Christine Marie Kennedy
13, Louisbourg
Christine Marie Kennedy, 13, of Louisbourg, passed away suddenly April 1, 2000, in an off road vehicle accident.
Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary (Dibbon) Kennedy. She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Parish in Louisbourg. A Grade 8 student at George D. Lewis High. Christine loved being with her brother and friends.
Besides her parents, Christine is survived by brother Ryan, and also her maternal grandmother Sue Dibbon and paternal grandparents Vincent and Florence Kennedy. She is also survived and loved dearly by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is predeceased by her maternal grandfather Henry Dibbon.
Visitation will take place Monday, 7-9 p.m., at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Louisbourg. Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Louisbourg, with the Rev. Paul Finley officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.A. Chant Funeral Home, Louisbourg.
Mary Roberta Mercer
71, Sydney
Mary Roberta Mercer, 71, of Borden Street, Sydney, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Julia (Osborne) Dearing.
Mary pursued her passion in sales as a District Sales Manager for Avon and retired after 25 years of service. Mary and Tom spent many of their retirement winters vacationing in Florida.
She is survived by three daughters, Grace Mercer, Truro,
Judy Mercer, Sydney, and Brenda White (Mercer), Dartmouth, son, Robert Mercer, Sydney, seven grandchildren, Grayson, Tanya, Ellen, Tammy, Justin, Jeffery, Brenon, three great-grandchildren, Jena, Jamie, and Hayden. Also surviving are four brothers, John and Mel, Sydney, Harry and Gideon, Ontario and five sisters, Julia Patterson, Kentville, Louise Kirkwood, Ontario,
Florence Trudell, Carol Tinny, Lisa O’Brien, Ontario.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Thomas (1997), a son, Thomas Ebineser Mercer, step-mother Bertha Myatt, four brothers, Arthur, Gordon, Robert and David in infancy. Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with funeral service in the chapel Tuesday 11 a.m. with Stewart Keizer officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
