Brian Augustus Yorke, 46, a resident of 72 Pleasant St., North Sydney, died suddenly, Saturday, April 1, 2000, at home.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of Geraldine (Gerry) Yorke, North Sydney.
Surviving are his mother, Gerry; one son, Justin, Ontario; one brother, Timothy, P.E.I. Also survived by a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Brian was predeceased by his grandparents, Mr. and Mr. John A. Yorke.
A private visitation and funeral service will be held in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney. Cremation to follow with burial of ashes in the family lot at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Robert Edward Gordon
66, Sydney
Robert Edward Gordon, 60, of Elmbank Avenue, Sydney, passed away at his residence Tuesday, April 4, 2000.
Born in Sydney, Robert was a son of Sarah (Hadley) Gordon, Sydney and the late Thomas Gordon.
He was a retired miner of the Prince Mine, with the Cape Breton Development Corp.
Robert is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Brenda, Fort McMurray; son, Robert, Sydney and brothers, David, Belleville, Ont., Graham, Brookland, N.S., Howard, Mississauga, Ont., Jack, Toronto, Ont. and Kenneth, Sydney.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, today (Thursday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Christ Church, Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Harold Brown officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Frances E. Green
75, Sydney
Frances E. Green, 75, of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of 401 French St., Sydney, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her family.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Albert E. and Agnes (Crane) Miles.
She was employed for many years with Archie Nathanson’s.
Frances is survived by sons, George (Lione), Melvin (Sylvia) and Kenny (Caroline), all of Sydney; daughters, Betty (Mrs. John Nicholson), Sydney and Francey Van Rumpt, Ontario; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by six sisters, Beckie Boudreau, Vera (Mrs. Tony Epifano), Margaret (Mrs. Tim Hawco), all of Sydney, Agnes (Mrs. Ralph Foster), North Redding, Mass., Dorothy (Mrs. Murray Gill), Fredericton, N.B. and Myrtle (Mrs. Stewart McChesney), New Market, Ont.; and three brothers, John (Betty), Sydney, Jim (Gladys), Catalone and Albert, Calgary.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alex Green, three grandchildren in infancy and a brother, George Miles.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Thursday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church, Friday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Alexander O. MacLean
88, St. Peter's
Alexander O. MacLean, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish, at the age of 88.
He was retired from the MacLean Grocery business and was a school teacher in his youth.
He was associated with the St. Peter’s United Church, where he was the organist for 50 years, treasurer for 25 years, and taught Sunday school for a number of years.
He was very much interested in Masonary, being secretary of Richmond Lodge No. 97 AF and AM for 50 years. He was associated with various Masonic bodies and as a Shriner was a member of Philae Temple. He was president of the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Peter’s Unit, for 34 years.
He is survived by a sister, Elsie and her husband, Ira Murphy, also a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Katherine and brothers, Bill and Jacob.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel and a private funeral will take place at a later date.
Emily May Allen
87, Sydney
Emily May Allen, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2000, at MacGillivray Guest Home, where she was a resident for the last two years.
May was a former member of Dundas United Church, Woodstock. May and her husband Frank (deceased July, 1997) were long-time residents of Ontario and prior to moving to Sydney in May, 1996, they resided at 21 Arthur St., Woodstock. They moved to Sydney and remained in the care of their only son Glenn (Carol), formerly of 33 Charlotte St., now residing at 47 Castle Dr., Sydney.
May was the daughter of the late Christopher and Emily (Napthan) Kidman.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Francis on July 27, 1997, her only daughter, Barbara in 1968, sisters, Ida and Olive and brother, Christopher. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her son, Glenn (Carol) Allen, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A family memorial service will be held at MacGillivary Guest Home Chapel, Saturday, April 8, at 2:15 p.m. with Fr. Rankin officiating. Committal will be at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Parkinsons or Alzheimer’s societies or MacGillivary Guest Home.

82, New Waterford
Elizabeth Destobel, 82, of Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. Funeral service will take place Sunday, 2:30 p.m. in the Glace Bay Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, 257 Reserve St. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown.
Christina Ann MacInnis
Ingonish Beach
Passed away suddenly at the home of her sister, Evelyn Doucette, Ingonish Beach, Wednesday, April 5, 2000.
Born in Sydney Mines, and formerly of MacCormick Terrace, Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Agnes (Donovan) Williams. She was a member of St. Pius X Church.
She is survived by sisters, Evelyn Doucette, Ingonish Beach, Jennie (Mrs. Stanley Jerritt), Edmonton, Emma MacNeil, Greenwood and Elizabeth Godreau, Sydney Mines. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Christina was predeceased by her husband, Peter MacInnis, three brothers, Maurice, Charles and Herbert.
She was dearly loved by everyone who knew her, especially the home care workers, who cared for her for many years. She will be sadly missed by her beloved sister, Evelyn.
Visitation will be held at the G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, today (Friday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, 10 am. in St. Pius X Church with the Rev. Tony MacDonald officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
