Emily May Allen
87, Sydney
Emily May Allen, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2000, at MacGillivray Guest Home, where she was a resident for the last two years.
May was a former member of Dundas United Church, Woodstock. May and her husband Frank (deceased July, 1997) were long-time residents of Ontario and prior to moving to Sydney in May, 1996, they resided at 21 Arthur St., Woodstock. They moved to Sydney and remained in the care of their only son Glenn (Carol), formerly of 33 Charlotte St., now residing at 47 Castle Dr., Sydney.
May was the daughter of the late Christopher and Emily (Napthan) Kidman.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Francis on July 27, 1997, her only daughter, Barbara in 1968, sisters, Ida and Olive and brother, Christopher. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her son, Glenn (Carol) Allen, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A family memorial service will be held at MacGillivary Guest Home Chapel today (Saturday), April 8, at 2:15 p.m. with Fr. Rankin officiating. Committal will be at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Parkinsons or Alzheimer’s societies or MacGillivary Guest Home.
David (Sandy) Hollingsworth

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David (Sandy) Hollingsworth on Tuesday, April 4, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 51.
Beloved companion of Brenda Leslie (and family); cherished son of Bessie Hollingsworth and the late John Hollingsworth; father of Lisa, David, Amanda and Angela; grandfather of Alysia. He is also survived by 12 brothers and sisters, Johnny, Danny, Bobby (Carolyn), Joey (Marilyn), Bill (Anne), Kay Shebib, Ethel (Gord), Donna (Norm), June (George), Lois (James), Patty (Melvin), Debbie (Weldon) and his many nieces and nephews. He is the dear friend of Wayne and Mary Norton (and family), Whitey Engleby, and co-workers at Curwood Packaging.
Sandy was a member of the Salvation Army in Sydney Mines. He will be sadly missed by all those who loved him.
The service was held April 6, in Georgetown, Ont. Cremation has taken place.

Anastasia (nee Tobin) Kelloway
87, Glace Bay
Mrs. Anastasia Kelloway, 87, of 49 School St., Glace Bay, died Friday, April 7, 2000, in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Hickey) Tobin.
Mrs. Kelloway was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay.
Mrs. Kelloway is survived by daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Ivan Smith) and Patricia (Mrs. Elliot Kennedy), both of Glace Bay; sons, Orville Jr. (Theresa), Cambridge, Ont., Brantford, Hamilton, Ont., Harvey “Shack” (Monica), Glace Bay; sister, Helen Kanary, Glace Bay; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, Orville in 1997 and a brother, John.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held Tuesday, April 11, at 11 a.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, with Fr. John Graham officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Palliative Care Society are suggested as memorials.
Jim MacNeil
Benacadie Pond
James Anthony MacNeil, 83, of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of Benacadie Pond, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at the residence.
Born at Benacadie Pond, he was the son of the late M.R. and Margaret (MacLennan) MacNeil of Benacadie.
He was a member of St. Barra’s Parish, Christmas Island. He worked for over 20 years at the Sydney Steel Corp. in the general yard and also did work for years as a truck driver.
Surviving are four sisters, Jean (Edgar) Roche, Mrs. Mary Connors, Sally (Stanley) Wincek, all of Boston, and Annie (Cliff) Seising, Florida; two brothers, Danny (Margaret), Sydney River and Angus A., Sydney and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by two brothers, Joe and Frank.
The late Mr. MacNeil will have visitation Sunday, April 9, 2000, at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Barra’s Church, with Rev. J.A. MacNeil officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, Christmas Island.
Donations may be made to St. Barra’s Parish Cemetery Fund.
Clarence Patrick Perry
81, Little Lorraine
Born in Little Lorraine, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Dolan) Perry.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Main-a-Dieu and served with the Merchant Marines. He retired from the Fortress of Louisbourg in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Bernardine (Burke); seven sons, Rufus (Margaret), Louisbourg, Bernie (Roberta), Catalone, Gary (Heather), Catalone, Johnie (Glenys), Louisbourg, Clarence (Yvonne), Louisbourg, Tommy (Anne), Bateston, Blaine, at home. Also surviving are seven daughters, Thelma (Teddy), Halifax, Judy, Louisbourg, Sheila (Eddy), Catalone, Elaine (Gary), Louisbourg and Doreen, Big Lorraine; a brother, Maurice, Little Lorraine and by 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews
He was predeceased by four brothers, Rufus, Joseph, Jack and Thomas; four sisters, Margaret, Patricia, Barbara and Mary; and by a daughter, Patricia, in infancy.
Visitation for Mr. Perry was held Friday at Immaculate Conception Parish, Main-a-Dieu. Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. from Immaculate Conception Church, Main-a-Dieu with the Rev. Peter LeBlanc officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, under the direction of W.A. Chant’s Funeral Home Louisbourg.
Arthur William Tobin
86, North Sydney
Arthur William Tobin, 86, a resident of Mapleview Drive, North Sydney, died suddenly, Friday, April 7, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Young) Tobin. He was employed for many years as a miner with Dominion Coal Company and later with Devco. He also operated a farm. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He served as a Cape Breton County councillor for 18 years, as president of the Bras d’Or Wildlife Association, president of the Nova Scotia Wildlife Association and served on the board of directors of the Canadian Wildlife Association, Department of Natural Resources Advisory Wildlife Council and board of directors of the Northside Guest Home.
He was one of two living grandsons of Sir Robert Tobin, who immigrated to Canada from Ireland.
Surviving are his wife, Christine (Weir); three sons, Cyril (Paulette) and Kenny, both of North Sydney, Michael (Jeannie), Florence; one daughter, Catherine (Mrs. Cecil Hickey), North Sydney; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert; two sisters, Eva Maude King, Annie Temperson MacDonald; and a granddaughter, Karen Ann.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, with the Rev. Peter Piva officiating. Burial to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Pulmonary Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
