Jacqueline Patricia (Bennett) Mills
69, Glace Bay
Jacqueline Patricia (Bennett) Mills, 69, of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay General Hospital, Tuesday, April 18, 2000.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Sara (Boutilier) Bennett.
Mrs. Mills was a former resident of Gardiner Mines and with her great sense of humour she gathered many friends to enjoy her great baking, sewing and cooking. Mrs. Mills was a great supporter of organ donation and she was a former transplant recipient and dialysis patient. She also enjoyed making up stories and poems for her granddaughter, Sara.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Clifford; daughters, Elizabeth (Betty) (Blair) Boutilier, Christina (Chris) and Sylvia, all of Glace Bay; sisters, Margaret Strang and Phyllis MacMullin, both of Gardiner Mines, Valerie MacDonald, Sydney and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Edward and sister, Bridgett.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Mills will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral mass of resurrection will be held Thursday, April 20, 2000, at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church with Fr. John Graham officiating. Burial will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit.

Muriel L. Musgrave
90, Sydney Mines
Muriel Lavina Musgrave, 90, a resident of the Miner’s Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines and formerly of 101 Musgrave Lane, North Sydney, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at the manor.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Esther (Pyke) Johnston.
At an early age Muriel resided with her grandmother, Harriet Pyke and aunt, Vivian (Pyke) Clarke as a result of her mother’s death.
Muriel was a member of St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. Employed by the telephone company and later Maritime Tel and Tel, where she worked as a telephone operator and after marrying she returned to work to help with the transition to dial telephone, and later worked as a nanny.
In her retired years she spent much of her time playing darts, cards, bingo, bowling and travelling. Muriel was a very active member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners’ Club as well as their mixed dart league. She was also a member of the Bras d’Or Senior Citizens and Pensioners’ Club. For many years Muriel was active in the March Break for Seniors, as well as being election officer for many of the elections.
In 1986 Muriel was voted Volunteer of the Year by the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners’ Club.
Surviving are one son, Glenn (Cora) Musgrave, Florence; two daughters, Lorraine Norman and Virginia (Chook) (Mrs. Sandy Lewis), both of North Sydney; one brother, Sanford Johnson, Baddeck; nine grandchildren, Glen Jr. Mona, Brett, Noel, Kim, Blaise, Tracey, Austin and Sandi and 15 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Austin, three sisters, Cora Johnston, Margaret Corton and Esther LaFleche.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Homes, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service Thursday, 2 p.m. from St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

William Henry Norman, 70, of Ship Harbour, Placentia Bay, passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, April 16, 2000, surrounded by his loving family.
Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Rebecca Norman, sisters, Beatrice and Ada and brother, Thomas.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 48 years, Mary; five daughters, Patti (Derek Tucker), St. Philips, Helen (Brian Kelly), St. John’s, Dorothy (Lloyd Evely), Mount Pearl, Mame (Terry Rose), Quebec and Anna (Les Roberts), St. John’s; six sons, Bill (Lori), Ontario, Reg (Bride), St. John’s, Randy (Jocelyn), Seal Cove, Frank (Diane), Paradise, Patrick (Dena), Ontario and Tom (Lisa), Alberta; adopted son, Thomas Griffiths (Dawn), Alberta; 16 grandchildren: Adam, Nicholas, Kathryn, William, Mandi, Ashley, Lindsey, Taylor, Meghynn, Natasha, Danielle, Graydon, Heaven-Leigh, Kara-Lynn, Merrissa and Thomas; and one great-grandson, Damon; brothers, Fred (Pat), Sydney, N.S. and Jim (Alice); sisters, Mildred (Tom Griffin), Lillian (Victor Jefford), Mary Follett, Sarah (Tom Peters), Gerri (Bruce McWilliam) and Nora (Terry Dwyer); sisters-in-law, Mary Norman and Julia Fisher; brothers-in-law, John Hunt, Patrick J. Marie (McMullen) Redmond
75, Glace Bay
Marie (McMullen) Redmond, 75, of 2 Kennedy Dr., Glace Bay, and long time former resident of 604 North St., died at her home Monday, April 17, 2000.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Ellen (Nolan) McMullen.
Marie’s favourite pastime was enjoying fellowship with her family and friends over a good game of cards. She served as a WREN with the Canadian Navy during the Second World War.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Sandy) McLeod, Glace Bay; son, Kevin (Dixie), Lower Ohio, Shelburne County, N.S.; five grandchildren, Shauna, Sherri, Stephen, Troy and Jason; one great-grandchild, Brittany; sisters, Cleo (Loki) Robinson, Faustina (Mrs. Hugh MacDougall), Lillian (Mrs. John A. Rhodes), Kaye (Mrs. Fabe McNeil), all of Glace Bay, Mary (Mrs. Tony MacKinnon), Brockville, Ont. and Helen Stevens, New Brunswick; one brother, Mattie, Glace Bay.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Dave, Justin and Hugh (Lou), one sister, Elizabeth MacNeil.
Visitation will be in Curry’s Funeral Home Ltd., 775 Main St., Glace Bay, today (Wednesday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of resurrection will be celebrated by Rev. Jake Andrea in St. Anthony’s Church, Thursday, 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Donations made to St. Anthony’s Cemetery Fund would be appreciated by the family.
William (Bill) Thomey
78, Sydney
William (Bill) Joseph Thomey, 78, of 221 Cusack Dr., Sydney, died Monday, April 17, 2000, suddenly at home.
Born in Harbour Grace, Nfld., he was the son of the late Matthew and Mary (Ryan) Thomey.
He was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish, where he was a member of the men’s club and served as a Eucharistic minister. He was employed with Sydney Steel until he retired in March 1984. He was also an avid sportsman. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by three daughters, Judy MacDonald (Alex), Shelly Nardocchio (Carlo), Debbie Bryden (Lowell), two sons, David (Ellen) and Kevin (Judith), all of Sydney and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Thomey, Sydney and a brother, Henry (Harry) Thomey, Sydney.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle (Samms) Thomey and a brother, John (Jack) Thomey.
The body will rest at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, today (Wednesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Theresa’s Church, Thursday, April 20 at 2 p.m. with Fr. A. MacDougall officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Lorne M. Allen
74, North Sydney
Lorne MacLean Allen, 74, a resident of Queen Street, North Sydney, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Reginald and Ruth (Turner) Allen.
Lorne retired a number of years ago from Allen Ice Company, North Sydney, which he owned and operated with his brother, Douglas and sister, Joyce. He was a member of the North Sydney Rotary Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (MacQueen); one brother, Douglas (Georgie), North Sydney; one sister, Joyce Carroll (Gervase), North Sydney; one nephew, Brent Carroll, North Sydney.
He was predeceased by his parents, stepmother, Alma and sister, Clara.
No visitation by request. Funeral service Thursday 11 a.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home and Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with the Rev. John Hannem officiating. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
