Terrance Frederick Huntington
64, Halifax
Terrance Frederick Huntington, 64, Halifax, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in the VG Site, QEII, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Jan. 1, 1936, in Sydney, he was the eldest son of Barbara and the late Frederick Huntington.
Terry is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Cindy, Shannon, both of Halifax, Donna (Peter) Dykeman, Saint John, N.B.; stepson, Michael McMaster; grandchildren, Justin, Jeffrey, Amara, Savannah, Keslyn, Valerie Journee soon to be born; brothers, Merrill (Viola), Lowell (Helen), Lynden; sisters, Lorna (Jack) Stuckless.
Terry was a generous loving husband, a gentle and giving father and a good friend who will be greatly missed but will live forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 21 in Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. in Mulgrave Park United Baptist Church, Sebastian Street, Rev. K. Fletcher officiating, reception to follow. Interment at a later date in Huntington Cemetery, Marion Bridge, Cape Breton.

Lester Roy Jackson
80, Glace Bay
Lester Roy Jackson, 80, of 36 Howe St., Glace Bay, died at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, Wednesday, April 19, 2000.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Ernest and Katherine (Munroe) Jackson.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church. He was a coal miner working in collieries 1B, 20 and 26, retiring in 1971.
He is survived by his wife, Olive Harris; daughter, Eunice (Robert) Croft, Quebec; son, Robert (Tina) Jackson, North Carolina; one brother, James, Glace Bay; five grandchildren, Leslie and James Croft and Laurel, Bethany and Olivia Jackson.
He was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 21 from 7-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Saturday at 2 p.m. with Canon Fev Arnold officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.

William (Bill) Alonzo Lucas
78, Sydney
William (Bill) Alonzo Lucas, 78, of French Street, Sydney, N.S., died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at his home.
Born in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late Alonzo and Miriam Lucas.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 128. He was a foreman at the Sydney Steel Corp. until he retired in 1987. Also he was an avid runner and sportsman.
Bill is survived by his wife, the former Jeanette Mintus, Sydney; seven children, Roland Calander, Esther Lucas, John Lucas, William Jr. Lucas, Curtis Lucas, Donald Lucas and Karen King; two brothers, Ethelstone Lucas and Gideon Lucas; five sisters, Ismay Innis, Olga Skeete, Elease Smuk, Naomi Austin and Ruth Lucas; nine nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Alonzo Crawford, London, England.
Visitation will be held at the Sydney Memorial Chapel, Prince Street, Friday, April 21, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Trinity United Church, Victoria Road, Sydney with the Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating.
Cremation will take place after the service under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel and the burial will take place at a later date.
His inner strength will always be carried by those who knew him.
Joseph Archie McDonald
67, Long Point
Joseph Archie McDonald, 67, of Long Point, formerly of Reserve Mines, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at home.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was a son of the late John Finley and Mary Julia McDonald.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Buffett; stepson, Bobby; brothers, Simon, Collingwood, Ont., Allan, Mount Uniacke, Darrell, Lawrencetown; sisters, Catherine Snow, Sydney, Matilda Fergusson, Glace Bay, Thelma Mason, Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by brother, Roddie.
Visitation will be held today (Thursday), 7-9 p.m. in Judique and Area Men’s Club and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in V.J. McGillivary Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Funeral 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines with the Rev. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Fred Fowler
84, Glace Bay
Fred Fowler, 84, of 215 Brookland St., Glace Bay, died at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, Thursday, April 20, 2000.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah (Campbell) Fowler. Fred was a member of Knox United Church, Glace Bay and a member of the IOOF Lodge. Fred worked as a self-employed carpenter until he retired and was an active bowler and dart player.
Fred is survived by his wife, Eva (Carnell) Fowler; daughter, Deborah (Robert) Brown, British Columbia; two grandsons, Matthew and Garrett Brown; sisters, Dolly (Anthony) Sollazzo, Sydney, Crassie (Winston) Smith, Glace Bay, Kathleen Robinson, Toronto, Ont., Neila Simmons, Toronto, Ont., Christina Scott, Peterborough, Ont.; brothers, Adrian (Alma), Glace Bay, George (Barbara), Glace Bay, Fabian (Anita), Boston, Mass.
Fred was predeceased by a son, Stanley and a brother, Cecil.
Visitation was held Friday, April 21, 2000, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and will be held today (Saturday), 2-3:30 p.m. at which time the funeral service will be held in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel with the Rev. David MacLean officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.

Douglas James Francis
70, Sydney
Doug Francis, 70, of 67 Stuart St., Sydney, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at home.
Born in St. John's Nfld., he was the son of the late Stewart Francis and Kathryn "Kitty" (Cantwell) Francis. He was a member of Immaculate Heart Parish, Mira Road. Doug was employed with the municipal government and was the clerk for Cape Breton County for 25 years. He was a member of the Seaview Golf Club, the Spanish River Seniors Club, the Men's Senior Bowling League and the Spanish River Bowling league. Doug was past president of both the Tower Heights Co-op and the Spanish River Seniors Club. He volunteered for the Meals on Wheels and was a past member of the board of directors for the Spanish River Community Centre. Doug was the Nova Scotia Co-ordinator for the Canadian Prostate Cancer Network.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lorraine Shinners; two daughters, Carol (Paul) Gallaghar, Halifax and Kathy (Dave) Laite, Howie Centre; one son, Doug (Donna) Francis, Moncton; one brother, Bill (Sally) Francis, Ontario and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one grandson, Logan.
The late Mr. Francis will have visitation for one day only, today (Saturday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Immaculate Heart Church with Fr. Gary MacPherson officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
