Michael (Feathers) Graham
77, Glace Bay
Michael (Feathers) Graham, 77, of Valley View Complex, 86 Nolan's Lane, Glace Bay, N.S., died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, South Street, Glace Bay.
Born in Dominion, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (McLean) Graham.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport. He was a former employee of Devco (No. 26 colliery), retiring in 1980. With hands behind his back "Feathers" loved going for his strolls up and down the sidewalk on Kings Road, Dominion and Ocean Avenue, Dominion, with one of his favourite sayings "Hi Old Timer" to everyone he met.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Helen Spencer, Glace Bay; one brother, Eldie (Celia), Glace Bay and sister, Emmeline (Greg) MacNeil, Dominion; also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as step-children and step-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Neil, Lawrence, Walter, Dan, William and Allen in infancy, sisters, Mary, Catherine and Pearl.
Visitation will be at Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay today (Saturday) 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Monday, 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with the Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Dominion.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Kaye Ellison LeMoine
81, Sydney Mines
Kaye Ellison LeMoine, 81, of 98 Main St., Sydney Mines, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born and educated in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Jack and Gladys (Wilkins) LeMoine.
He was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines. Kaye was employed by Maritime Tel and Tel for over 40 years working in New Waterford and Sydney before moving to the Northside in 1955. He was a Mason since 1920 and a member of the Eastern Star, Kiwanis and other organizations and was president of the Golden Years Club of North Sydney.
An active community member, he served on the health board and the school board for the town of Sydney Mines. He was a longtime warden and church hall treasurer for Trinity Anglican Church. He was recognized by the province as volunteer of the year for Sydney Mines in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Media; daughter, Kaye, Halifax; sons, Rick, San Diego and Wayne, Barrington; granddaughters, Kara, Amy, Meaghan-Ann, Dana and Megan-Elizabeth. Also surviving are his sister, Gladys, Vancouver; stepbrother, Keith, Halifax and stepsister, Hazel, North Sydney.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Brenda Drake MacDonald officiating. Family and friends will gather in the church hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the food bank or any charity.
Arrangements are under the direction of G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.

Ronald Joseph (Ron) MacDonald
38, Glace Bay
Ronald Joseph (Ron) MacDonald, 38, of 9 Beacon St., Glace Bay, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at home.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of Malcolm and Shirley (MacLeod) MacDonald. Ron loved fixing cars and was a classic car enthusiast.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his longtime companion, Cathie Napier; sons, Anthony Napier, at home, Jamie MacDonald and Christopher MacDonald, both of Dominion; daughter, Jennifer Sims, Glace Bay; brothers, Billy and Eddy (Sherry), both of Glace Bay; sisters, Linda (David) MacMullin, Marlene (Barry) Boutilier, Joan (Joey) MacDonald, Norma (Joseph) Spencer, Dolly (Blair) Seymour, all of Glace Bay. He will also be sadly missed by his aunts and uncles and several nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his brother, Michael in 1987 and Stephen in infancy.
In accordance with Ron's wishes there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, New Aberdeen with Rev. Paul McGillvray officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Funeral arrangements under the direction of Curry's Funeral Home Ltd., 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
Donations may be made to the Ron MacDonald Children's Trust Fund, c/o the Coady Credit Union, 32 West Ave., Glace Bay, B1A 6E9.

Judge Michael Leo McIntyre
Glace Bay
Judge Michael Leo McIntyre, lifetime resident and prominent citizen of the town of Glace Bay, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, in the Glace Bay Healthcare Facility.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late M.G. (Mick) and Mary Kate (Bigley) McIntyre.
He attended St. John's School, Glace Bay and graduated from Glace Bay High and subsequently attended St. Francis Xavier University graduating with a BA in 1939.
In 1940 he answered the call to duty and enlisted with the Cape Breton Highlanders, Canadian Army active, Sydney, N.S., 1940. He served with the Canadian Army active force in Canada, England, Italy, Northwest Europe before being honourably discharged at Halifax, N.S., 1946 with the rank of captain. He was awarded the CVSM with Clasp and was awarded the Commander in Chief's certificate. He remained active in his beloved Highlanders throughout his career as an organizer and commanding officer in the militia, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel 2nd class.
Upon being discharged in Halifax, he enrolled in Dalhousie Law School. While attending law school he was employed as a staff announcer at radio station CHNS, in Halifax. He graduated from Dalhousie in 1950 and returned to his native Glace Bay, entering the practice of law in 1951.
Judge McIntyre was a candidate in three federal elections ('53, '57, '68) and was appointed town solicitor, Town of Glace Bay in 1959, a position he held until his appointment as a provincial judge in 1971.
Judge McIntyre also served on several boards and received numerous appointments. Among them named, Queen's Counsel, Nova Scotia 1967; appointed town solicitor, Town of Dominion, 1970; member of the board of the Miners Foundation (Miners' Museum); former vice-president, Canadian Infantry Association; former first vice-president, Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities; former president, Cape Breton Barristers' Society; past president, Glace Bay Board of Trade; past-president, Glace Bay Rotary Club; past-president, Glace Bay Branch, Navy League of Canada; former solicitor, District No. 26, United Mineworkers of America; former member of the Board of Governors St. F.X. University; former member, Council of Nova Scotia Barristers' Society; past-president, Alumnae Association, St. Francis Xavier University; member of the Pension Review Board, Department of Veterans' Affairs, Ottawa, Canada, appointed March 1971.
Member of the executive of the Cape Breton Division CNIB; former commentator Maritime Network Canadian Broadcasting Corp.; appointed chairman of the Adjustment Board of the Cape Breton Development Corp.; appointed chairman of the board, St. Joseph's Hospital, 1973; District Governor, Rotary International, District 782, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island, 1974-1975; recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award; secretary treasurer, Nova Scotia Provincial Judges' Association, 1972-1977; provincial representative, Canadian Provincial Judges' Association, 1978-1979; appointed first chairman of the board, Glace Bay Community Hospital, 1976; Honourary Lt. Col. 2nd Battalion, Nova Scotia Highlanders (CB) 1978; president, Nova Scotia Association of Provincial Court Judges, 1978-1979; member of the board of directors of the Canadian Hospital Association, 1979; past-president, Atlantic Broadcasters Ltd. (CJFX) 1976-1981; vice-president, Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations, 1980-1981; chairman, Joint Manpower Consultative Committee for Public Service Alliance of Canada Employees and Cape Breton Development Corp., 1980-1981; president, Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations, 1981-1983; lecturer, Canadian Police College, Ottawa 1981 1983; appointed Honourary Colonel, Nova Scotia Highlanders, 1983; Board of Governors, Canadian Corps of Commissionaires 1982-95 and was Provincial State Advocate of the K of C for 12 years, retiring as State Advocate Emeritus, Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his four children, Michael (Sue), Windsor, Ont., Ronald (Verne), Baddeck, David (Joan), Dartmouth and Mary Rose, Halifax. He is a very special grandpa to his nine grandchildren, Colin, Emily, Katie, Michael, Kevin, Peter, Jon-David, Kayla and Kathryn. Also surviving are his devoted sisters, Marg Graham, Jean MacFarland and Frances Breski, all of Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by his father, M.G. (Mick) McIntyre and mother Mary Kate (Bigley), a brother, Thomas (Dece) and his cherished and loving companion of 47 years, his wife, Lenore (Kennedy).
Visitation will be in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Sunday 7-9 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Members of the Glace Bay Council of the KOC will assemble at the funeral home, Monday at 7:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church with the Rev. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Leo's memory are suggested to the Taigh Na Mara Bus Fund, 974 Main St., Glace Bay, N.S. B1A 4Z8 or to a charity of choice.

Edward Vernon Owens
24, St. Peter's
Edward Vernon Owens, 24, of St. Peter's died in a house fire, Friday, April 21, 2000.
He was the son of Katie (MacAulay) Boudreau and the late Eddie Owens.
He was a welder by trade and was a member of Local 682 Plumbers and Pipefitters.
He is survived by his mother, Katie Boudreau; stepfather, Blair Boudreau; brother, Robert Owens; sister, Tiffany; companion, Leslie Touesnard and her daughter, Hughena; step-grandparents, David and Maura Boudreau.
He was predeceased by his father, Eddie Owens (1992), his maternal grandparents, Buddy and Dolena MacAulay and Rose (Bartholomew) MacAulay, paternal grandparents, Bill and Lillian Owens, uncle, Lionel Owens.
Visitation will be in the River Bourgeois Funeral Home, Sunday 2-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the United Church in St. Peter's with the Rev. Anthony Ware officiating. Burial in the Grand River Cemetery, Grand River.
Donations may be made to the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Unit of the Strait Richmond Hospital.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter's.

87, Sydney Mines
Mary Rodney Stephenson, 87, a resident of the Miners' Memorial Manor, and formerly of 50 Jacob St., Sydney Mines, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the residence.
Born in Florence, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Margaret (MacIntyre) Dickson.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and a former member of the church choir. She was a retired Sunday school teacher; a member of the Ruth AMS and a former member of the ladies auxiliary of the Miners' Memorial Manor.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Mora Jeanette MacDonald and son, Donald M. Stephenson, both of Sydney Mines; grandchildren, William (Tracy), Shawn (Jennifer) and Jennifer; great-granddaughter, Breanna and by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Disraeli M.D. Stephenson, her infant son, Hugh, sisters, Christina (Tina), Margarette, Catherine (Katie) and Jane Olive (Jennie).
Visitation will be in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, today from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ian MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
