Anthony Narcessis Tarso
70, Reserve Mines
Anthony Narcessis Tarso, 70, of 190 Haulage Rd., Reserve Mines, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, South Street, Glace Bay.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary (Brunet) Tarso.
He was employed as a coal miner with Devco No. 26 colliery. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines.
He is survived by his wife, Irene (Mombourquette) Tarso; sons, Joseph (Cathy), Edmonton, David, Reserve; daughter, Michelle, Reserve; brothers, Peter, Sydney and Mario, Ontario; sister, Angelina Angell, Reserve, N.S. and seven grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Joe and sisters, Mary, Georgina and Pearl.
There will be no visitation. A memorial mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Sunday, 1 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.

Edward Jordan Woodsworth
53, Sydney River
Edward Jordan Woodsworth, 53, of Elizabeth Street, Sydney River, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Liverpool, Queen's County, N.S., son of the late James and Helen (Croft) Woodsworth.
He was employed at the Lingan Generating Station. He was a member of the Native Council of Nova Scotia.
He is survived by his wife, the former, Delima (Richard); one daughter, Jennifer Lee, Petiwawa, Ont.; one son, Edward, at home; three brothers, James, Pleasantville, N.S., Spencer, B.C., Burton, Ontario; six sisters, Edna, Halifax, Bertha, Helen and Brenda, all in Ontario, Margaret, Bridgewater, N.S., Hope, Shag Harbour, Shelburne County; stepdaughter, Susan Hughes, Edmonton, Alta.; step-granddaughter, Cynthia.
Visitation will be held Monday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel, where services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m. with the Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial at Oakfield Cemetery, Mira.
Memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Gary Albert Boutilier
Coxheath
Gary Albert Boutilier of Coxheath, Cape Breton, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Emily Boutilier, Coxheath, and the late James Albert Boutilier. He was a member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Coxheath. Mr. Boutilier was owner and operator of Boutilier’s Music Shops Ltd., Sydney River. He was a talented musician who in the past years formed his own orchestra which performed throughout Cape Breton. He will be remembered for his humour and warmth and will be sadly missed by his family, many friends and fellow musicians.
Surviving are his wife, Betty (Crewe) Boutilier; two sons, Shawn and Jason, both at home; two sisters, Frances Dubois (Gary) Sydney and Linda Slaney (Tod), Bedford; three brothers, Bill (Nola), Wayne, and Jimmy (Kathy), all of Coxheath. Also survived by Mr. Stewart MacDonald, whom Gary thought of as a son, and by nine nieces and nephews.
The late Mr. Boutilier will have visitation today (Monday), April 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m. in St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Coxheath, with the Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment in St. Mark’s Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Phyllis Eileen Browner
66, Glace Bay
Phyllis Eileen Browner, 66, of 129 Mansfield St., Glace Bay, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Eva (Caines) Simm. She was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Phyllis worked for many years at the lunch counter at Woolworth, Commercial Street, until her retirement several years ago. She was also an accomplished knitter and the fruits of her work were enjoyed by many.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Joseph (Bud) Browner; daughters, Eva (Kevin) Cann, Rene (Tommey) Burchell, Cathy (Bill) Chislett, Kim MacAskill, all of Glace Bay; a step-daughter, Karen (Neil) Bach, Dominion; also one son, Clifton (Angela), Ontario; sister, Delores (James) Garland, Sydney; brothers, Charles (Sandra) Simm, Fraser (Linda) Simm, both of Glace Bay; 14 grandchildren and one grandson. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Bill; a sister, Florence in infancy; paternal grandparents, John and Sarah Simm and maternal grandparents, Jack and Martha Caines, Donkin.
Visitation will be held today (Monday), April 24, from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held Wednesday, April 26, at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Canon Fev Arnold officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.

84, Marion Bridge
Isabel (Sweetland) Burton, 84, Marion Bridge, and formerly of 197 Lorne St., Sydney, passed away Friday, April 21, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her family.
Born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary Kate (Stevenson) Sweetland.
Isabel is survived by two sons, Ralph (Patsy), Marion Bridge, and David (Bev), Howie Centre; one daughter, Betty (Peter) Story, Ontario; two sisters, Violet (Garland) Barnes, New Brunswick, Nellie (Colis) Hookey, Ontario. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Isabel was predeceased by her husband, Dan; one son, Edward; one grandson, Glenn; three brothers, Edward, Roland and Llewellyn and two sisters, Helen and Jesse.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel, today (Monday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral service in the chapel Tuesday, 1 p.m. with the Rev. Willis Henderson officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
John Emmerson Doyle
71, Ingonish Beach
John Emerson Doyle, 71, Ingonish Beach, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Ingonish Centre, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Margaret (Brewer) Doyle. He was a member of St. Peter’s Parish, Ingonish.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, and had been an active member of the RCL, Branch No. 91. He had been a fisherman and was employed by the CBH National Park, retiring in 1988. Throughout his life, Emerson enjoyed walking on the beach and having a good laugh with his many friends.
Emerson is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Robinson; daughters, Madonna, Veronica, Susan and Jeannie; sons, Rickey, Randy, Todd and Timmy; sisters, Faye, Violet, Eileen, Sadie, Carolyn, and brother, Roland; granddaughters, Laura, Lindsay, Brittany, Breigh and grandson, Jamie.
He was predeceased by daughter, Jean Marie; three sisters, Cecelia, Mary, Emilie, and brother Jim.
At the family’s request there will be no visitation. Funeral service to be held Tuesday, April 25, at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Ingonish, with Fr. John Morrison officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North of Smokey Palliative Care.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home.
