A memorial mass for the late Royal Louis Bastien will be held at St. Anthony Daniel Church on Saturday, April 29, 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

80, Sydney Mines
Rebecca (Becky) Anastasia Brogan, 80, of 64 Fraser Ave., Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mary (MacIntyre) Walsh.
She was a member of St. Pius X Parish, Sydney Mines and a longtime member of the Parish CWL. She was a former member of the Strand Monday Night Ladies Bowling League and a former executive member of the Canadian Association for the Mentally Handicapped.
Surviving is her husband, Patrick Gregory; her son, John Thomas and her daughter, Mary Helene, at home and her granddaughter, Shelly Miller.
Also surviving is her sister, Theresa (Sylvester) O’Connell and her care givers, Mary Jane, Debbie and Amey and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Helena Halliday, a son in infancy and her brothers, John James and Henry.
Visitation Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral will take place Saturday, 11 a.m. in the St. Pius X Church, Rev. Tony MacDonald officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Brown, 71, of Dingwall, Victoria County, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour.
Born in Dingwall, she was the daughter of the late John and Harriett (Fitzgerald) Brown.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Dingwall and was a former nurse’s aid in Halifax.
She is survived by sons, Blaise, Dingwall, Liam (Rose), Dartmouth; sisters, Jessie Mitchel, Gabarus, Elizabeth George, Neil’s Harbour and brothers, Cyril, Dingwall and Pius, St. Peter’s.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Neil, brothers, Artie, McCurdy, John D., Lauchie, Lee and sisters, Kassie and Flora Mae.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 4 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Dingwall, Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home will be in the parish cemetery.

71, Cape North
Mr. Neil Courtney, 71, of Cape North, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Cape North, he was the son of the late Artie and Effie (MacAskill) Courtney.
He was an adherent of the United Church of Canada and was retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Oakville, Ont.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret (Sis) Ferguson and step-daughter, Donna Ferguson-Bains, Caister Centre, Ont.; his sister, Florence, Cape North; brothers, Jim and Norman, Cape North, Dave, Dingwall, Melvin, River Denys and granddaughter, Megan.
He was predeceased by brothers, Murdock and Donald.
There will be no visitation. Family will receive friends after 7 p.m. Friday at the Cape North United Church Hall. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. in the Aspy Bay United Church, with Rev. Rose-Hannah Gaskin officiating and Rev. Ritchie Robinson assisting. Burial will be in the Aspy Bay United Cemetery.

Philip Kemp Larade, 51, of Samsonville, Richmond County, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at home.
Born in Samsonville, he was the son of Theresa Landry (Larade) and the late Paul Larade.
He was a member of the IBEW Local 1852 and an employee of Georgia Pacific, Port Hawkesbury.
He is survived by his wife, the former Laura Sampson; son, Kempie (Elisha), St. Peter’s; daughter, Jolene and grandson, Dean, at home; his mother, Theresa; sisters, Charlena (Alfred) Sampson, Wanda (Michael) McGrath, Beverly, all of Samsonville, Pauline Deveaux, Zelma (Francis) Collet, Cheticamp, Patricia Larade (Joseph Martell), Rockdale and special ‘sons’ Norman Penny and Francis Martin.
He was predeceased by his father, Paul and a brother, Cecil.
The body is resting at the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s. Visitation was held Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and will be held today (Thursday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Rev. Francis Cameron officiating.
Family flowers only by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Dr. W.B. Kingston Memorial Clinic, L’Ardoise, Strait-Richmond Hospital, Evanston or a charity of choice.

Jessie Crawford MacDonald, 66, Edwardsville, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, April 26, 2000.
Born in Dominion, Jessie was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mary (Crawford) Gregor. Jessie was retired from Internav. She was secretary and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Westmount Legion, Branch 126.
She is survived by her husband, Gordie.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, today (Thursday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bernice Spracklin officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
