Mary Ann Green, 88, of 15 Seaview Dr., Sydney Mines, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at home.
Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Donald Edward and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Campbell.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Sydney Mines.
She is survived by her sons, Greg (Monica), with whom she resided, Donnie and Bernie (Brenda), all in Sydney Mines and her grandchildren, Greg, Danielle, Kevin, Sarah Ann, Mary Beth and Allison. Also surviving are brother, Peter Campbell, Sydney Mines and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Eldridge, brothers, Angus James in infancy, David Allen, Gerry and Angus James and sisters, Annie Isabel in infancy, Sadie, Alice, Elizabeth and Annie Isabel.
Visitation Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. The funeral will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church with the Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Joseph H. Hines
92, Glace Bay
Joseph H. Hines, 92, Glace Bay, “together again” with his partner in life Sarah Ann (1906-2000), on Wednesday, April 26, 2000.
Born in Ingonish, he was a son of the late George and Agnes (Hawley) Hines.
Joseph attended the Halifax School for the Deaf, being there at the time of the Halifax Explosion, and later meeting his wife, Sarah. He came to Glace Bay as a young man and worked at many trades, including the Glace Bay Hospital as gardener and maintenance, the Town of Glace Bay in construction, and retiring after 36 years from McKinley’s Pop Factory.
They will always be missed by their daughter, Dena and her husband Jack, also by their grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Anne MacKay and Ruth Bagnell, both of Sydney.
Joseph was predeceased by Sarah in January of this year, when she went to heaven to be with her brothers, Neil and Billie (Wiener) MacNeil and sisters, Kitty and Nonie; his brothers, George, Colin, Angus and Charles; sisters, Dena, Claire, Elizabeth, Lavina and Sr. Joseph Agatha of Bethany.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Holy Cross Church, with Rev. John Graham officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
The family extend their sincere thanks to all for their donations and support during this difficult time.
Mabel B MacDonald
89, Baddeck
Mabel B. MacDonald, 89, of Baddeck, N.S., passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Red Head, Mabel was the daughter of the late Dan and Catherine (MacRae) Morrison.
She was a longtime resident of Boston, Mass., where she worked until her retirement in Baddeck.
She was a past member of the Eastern Star and a faithful member of Knox Presbyterian Church and the Knox Ladies Guild.
She is survived by nieces, Kaye, Marie and Katherine, all of Massachusetts, Hazel, Nevada, Dorothy, Delaware, Jacqueline, Sydney Mines, Mabel, Ingonish, Norma, Frida and Mabel, all of Baddeck; nephews, Fraser and Russel, both of Massachusetts, Brian, Bridgewater, Murdock, Baddeck and several grandnieces and nephews.
Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Jack MacDonald, formerly of P.E.I., sisters, Isabel, Elizabeth (Beth) and Hannah, brothers, Charles, Murdock D., Donald, J.K. and Kinnon; nephews, Gilbert, Donnie and Henry.
The body is resting at MacAskill Funeral Home, Saturday, April 29, 2000, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at Knox Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alderwood Rest Home, Victoria County Memorial Hospital Charitable Foundation or Knox Presbyterian Church.
Albert Edward March
85, South Bar
Albert Edward March, 85, of South Bar, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the Glace Bay General Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Hartry) March.
Albert was a member of the Merchant Marines prior to working at Sydney Steel. During the Second World War, he served as an RCNVR in the Navy after which he became a foreman at Sydney Steel in the No. 3 Boiler House until his retirement.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128, Whitney Pier, and the Naval Veterans of Cape Breton. He was involved with the Sydney Steel Pensioners, Whitney Pier Pensioners and Club 55. Albert was actively involved with the Club 55 Rhythm Band and the New Waterford Pensioners Music Makers and was an avid dart and shuffle board player and bowler. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Annie (Larick); son, Carl (Eleanor) and daughters, Anita (Peter) Campbell and Sharon (Harold) Bennett; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Julia Larick, Helen March and Adeline Richards.
Albert was predeceased by his mother and father, brothers, Joseph and William March and sister, Mary Menzies.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Saint Alban’s Church, Whitney Pier, Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Doug Chard officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Donations may be made to Taigh Na Mara Bus Fund or Saint Alban’s Anglican Church Building Fund.
Mary Catherine Sullivan
84, North Sydney
Mary Catherine Sullivan, 84, a resident of Centre Street, North Sydney, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Emmanuel and Catherine (Ryan) Shinners.
She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, North Sydney, and a former member of the St. Joseph Church CWL.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene (Hap) Sullivan; one daughter, Elizabeth (Terrance) Evanitski, Ontario; three sons, Frank (Dorothy), Ross Ferry, Bertrum (Carol), North Sydney, Keith (Debbie), Bras d’Or ; one sister, Anne Cann, North Sydney. She will also be missed by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two children in infancy, eight brothers, Fred, Wallace, Stanley, Frank, Gordon, Emmanuel, Theodore, William, two sisters, Sal and Frances.
There will be no visitation by request. A private family service will take place. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Frank Doran Barrington
86, Sydney
Frank Doran Barrington, 86, of 312 Esplanade, Sydney, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Thursday, April 27, 2000.
Born in Sydney, Frank was a son of the late John R. and Mary (Sparling) Barrington. In 1972, Frank retired from Sydney Steel.
He is survived by daughters, Frances (George) MacLeod, Stoney Creek, Ont., Judy (Vince) Donovan, Bedford, N.S. and Susan (George) Griffin, Dartmouth; sons, Joe, Sydney, Robert, Blacketts Lake, Michael, Sydney, Douglas, Sydney River, Gerald, Frank and Bruce, all of Howie Centre; sister, Mary Burns, Westmount; brothers, Jack, Sydney and Harry, New Waterford; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frank was predeceased by his wife, Victoria (Pierrynowski), sisters, Hilda and Marion, brother, Yorke and a son in infancy.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel, today (Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony Daniel Church, Monday, 11 a.m. with the Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
