Theresa Mary Connolly
86, Sydney Mines
Theresa Mary Connolly, 86, of 25 Fraser Ave., Sydney Mines, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in English Harbour West, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Power) Evans Fiander.
She was a member of St. Pius X Parish, Sydney Mines.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Patterson, Halifax; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Lewis and Karen Rahey, Victoria, B.C. and Louis Morrison, North Sydney.
She was predeceased by her husband, Adrian (Ad), sons, Fred (Hilda) and Adrian (Lorraine), brothers, Berkley Evans and Llewellyn Fiander and sisters, Lillian Currie and Blanche Rahey.
There will be a family visitation only Sunday evening, 7-9 p.m. at G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral will take place Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church with the Rev. Tony MacDonald officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
John Brennick
77, Bras d'Or
John Brennick, 77, a life long resident of Bras d’Or, Cape Breton, died Monday, March 27, 2000, in the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Bras d’Or, he was the son of the late Mickey and Ellen (Cantwell) Brennick.
He was employed for 41 years at Alex MacNeil and Sons General Store. For the past 15 years he operated the Arm of Gold Campground and Trailer Park. He was a member and supporter of the local fish and game association and a former member of the local school board.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann; five daughters, Jean, Calgary, Judy (Bodhan) Wasilenski, Saudi Arabia, Joan (Kerry) Muir, Florida, Michelle (Pierre) Landry, Calgary and Mary Frances, at home; one son, John (Flora), Bras d’Or; eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Pierre Landry, Heather and Scott Muir, Alexandria and Nicholas Wasilenski, Juliana and Matthew Brennick; three sisters, Blanche Hunt, Manitoba, Helen Devison, Louisbourg and Add MacDonald, Sydney Mines.
He was predeceased by one brother, Bernie.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Friday 2 p.m. from St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or with the Rev. Bedford Doucette officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the C.B. Downe Syndrome Society or to the Palliative Care Unit, c/o the Northside Hospital Foundation.
A. Bernice Cudworth
71, Bedford
A. Bernice Cudworth, 71, of Bedford, formerly of Sydney, passed away peacefully at home with her family.
Born in Donkin, C.B., she was the daughter of the late John T. and Alice Milley.
She was an active member of the First United Church, Breton Bay Ladies Auxiliary and the Sydney Heart Beats.
Surviving is her devoted husband of 43 years, Harold.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Margie (Ray) Davies, Judy (Sandy) Hines; brothers, Bernie, Elroy; sisters, Leah Goodwin, Hazel Johnson; grandchildren, Keith, Paul, Lynn Davies, Megan Hines and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, Chesley, John, Alex, sisters, Sadie, Effie and Ethel.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Halifax Regional Crematorium. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 29, at 2 p.m. in the First United Church. Reception immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Church, Sydney or a charity of choice.
Elias (Lizzie) Deveaux
66, New Waterford
Elias (Lizie) Deveaux, 66, of 337 8th St., New Waterford, passed away Friday, March 24, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Nelson and Gertrude (Perfect) Deveaux.
He was a member of all Saints Anglican Church, New Waterford. Lizie was employed as a miner for many years, working in No. 16, 18 and 12 collieries and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife, the former Muriel (Hill) Deveaux; two daughters, Anna (Mrs. Charles MacKinnon) and Jennifer, both of Sydney, son, Stephen, Montreal; four sisters, Catherine (Mrs. Stewart Hill), Point Edward, Martha (Mrs. Ray Penney), New Waterford, Sadie Campbell, New Waterford and Mary Delaney, Kitchener, Ont.; a brother, Joseph Deveaux, New Waterford.
Poppa will be greatly missed by special grandson, Spencer John MacKinnon.
Besides his parents, Lizie is predeceased by two sisters, Josephine and Marie.
There will be no visitation by request.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 29, at 2 p.m. from All Saints Church, New Waterford, with Rev. Douglas Chard officiating. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery, Point Edward.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford.
Donations may be made to the Lung Association.

Alma Cecelia Frost
77, New Zealand
Alma Cecelia Frost, 77, passed away in New Zealand on Friday, March 24, 2000.
Alma grew up in Glace Bay and Reserve Mines, Cape Breton. Alma was the daughter of the late Arthur George and Mary Cecelia Frost.
She leaves behind a daughter, Patricia and son, David and his wife Yvonne of New Zealand. She was the sister of Florence (Dixie) Dobson, Arthur, Charles, Roy and the late Fabian Frost. She will be remembered by many nieces and nephews in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Ontario.
Gregory Gerrior
47, Sydney
Gregory Gerrior, 47, of 53 Stanfield St., Sydney, and a longtime resident of Ashby, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Sydney, he was a son of the late Jerome and Ethel Mae (Stewart) Gerrior.
He was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney.
He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Axworthy; one daughter, Brandy, Halifax; one son, Jason, at home; four sisters, Ethel, Sydney, Doris, Toronto, Alice, N.B. and Theresa, Halifax; five brothers, David, Sydney, Vincent and Allan, both of Halifax, Stewart, Winnipeg and Laven, Dartmouth.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Leo and Phonse.
The late Mr. Gerrior will have no visitation. A private family committal will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks at a later date.
