Gertrude Teresa Morrison
74, Reserve Mines
A memorial Mass of Resurrection for the late Gertrude Teresa (Gillis) Morrison of Reserve Mines will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Funeral services under the direction of Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.

Earl Marshall Wilson
83, Sydney
Earl Marshall Wilson, 83, Furnace Street, Sydney, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Earl was a son of the late Isaac and Mary (Crane) Wilson.
During the Second World War, Earl served with the Cape Breton Highlanders in Italy and Continental Europe. In 1976, he retired from the Railway Department of Sydney Steel. He was a life long member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128.
Earl is survived by his wife, Violet; daughters, Donna Delvecchio, Sydney and Carol (James) McKay, Stettler, Alta.; sons, Raymond (Judy), Calgary and Gary (Karen), Sydney; sisters, Gladys (Walter) Bunn and Ethel (Jack) Hillier, both of Sydney; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brothers, Harry, Kenneth and Owen.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel Thursday, 2 p.m. with the Rev. Willis Henderson officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Raymond John (Jack) Woods
81, New Waterford
Raymond John (Jack) Woods, 81, of 3451 Wood Ave., New Waterford, died Monday, March 27, 2000, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Moncton, N.B., he was the son of the late Francis and Sarah (Flannigan) Woods.
He was a member of Calvin United Church and a retired coal miner, having worked in No. 12 Colliery. He served overseas during the Second World War with the York Carlton Regiment. He was a member of the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford and the New Waterford Pensioners Club. Mr. Woods was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a C.B. radio operator.
Surviving are two sons, William (Elizabeth), Don Mills, Ont., Albert (Lorraine), River Ryan; four daughters, Sharon (Wilfred) Hines, Don Mills, Ont., Norma (Sheldon) MacDonald, Dominion, Evelyn McLeod and Lorraine Woods, both of New Waterford; a brother, Leslie, Richibucto, N.B.; sister, Jean Lounsbury, Seabrook, N.H., U.S.A.; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Laura Moore.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Evelyn (Davis), two sons, Raymond and Leonard, a brother, Albert, four sisters, Beatrice Hudson, Loretta Hudson, Pearl Hache and Ruth Close.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mr. Woods’ remains will be brought to the church Wednesday noon, followed by the funeral at 3 p.m. in Calvin United Church with the Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Burial in Union Grove Cemetery.

Donald Gordon Gillian
Sydney Mines
On Feb. 29, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, Donald Gordon Gillan lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.
Donnie was born in 1941 and was the son of Sarah (Sadie) Gillan of Miners Memorial Manor and the late John Gillan.
Throughout his lifetime he worked in Woolworth’s and Yazer Bros. and began his carpentry career with the late Reg MacDonald. Many years ago he formed a partnership (Gillan and Guy Construction) with Archie Guy and in the past number of years with James Guy Jr. Donnie enjoyed a special relationship with his customers which was very evident from the support he was given during his illness.
An avid sports person during his lifetime, Donnie played hockey in his younger years and softball until recently. He was a player for the Sydney Mines Yamahas and Shoppers Old Timers. He was a staunch Toronto Maple Leaf, Dodger and Blue Jay fan. Donnie coached minor hockey teams, was president of the Sydney Mines and District Minor Hockey, president of the Northside Minor Hockey Federation and a member of the board of directors of the Sydney Mines Community Centre.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife and best friend, Lillian (Tait) Gillan; three sons and their wives, Glenn and Alice, Mill Creek, Brent and Anne, Cole Harbour and Paul and Cathy, Toronto.
Over the past 14 years, eight very special grandchildren came into his life and they enjoyed a very unique relationship. He was “Papa” to Saralyn, Heather-Lee, Ceilidh, Brendon, Leanne, Justine and Kelsey. His grandson, Donald Stephen, was with him a few short hours and was carried in his heart until his passing.
He is also survived by his brother, Ian (Jean), Scarborough and their children, Deborah and Brian. Donnie had a special relationship with his two uncles, Donald and Dan Murdoch Morrison, formerly of Wreck Cove, now living in Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. A loving and very good friend and mother-in-law, Belle Tait also survives him. From the time he met them, Donnie was a true brother to his sisters-in-law, Sandra (Warren) Murley, Coreen (John) Schempf and Ruth (Frank) Rocchetti and their children scattered around North America were always in close contact with “Uncle Donnie” all their lives.
James Guy Jr. was his special buddie and partner who will miss him as well as many neighbours, friends and relatives who were there for him during his illness. All who knew him will understand his need for family and privacy during a difficult time.
Visitation today (Thursday) 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home. The funeral will take place Saturday, 2 p.m. in Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, Sydney Mines with the Rev. Allison MacLean officiating.
Donations may be made to the C.B. Palliative Care, Canadian Cancer Society, the VON or Clyde Avenue Baptist Church.

Ethel Mae LeBlanc
52, North Sydney
Ethel Mae LeBlanc, 52, a resident of Gisborne Street, North Sydney, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at home.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late William and Jeanette (Hines) Williams.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney.
Surviving are her husband, William (Willie) LeBlanc, North Sydney; three sons, Charlie (Catherine), Ontario, Shawn (Lydia), North Sydney, Duke, at home; four sisters, Jackie (Mrs. Charles Harold) and Diane (Mrs. John Genter), both of Florence, Violet (Mrs. Michael Jamael), Sydney and Janice Fraser, Edmonton; two brothers, Bill (Nancy), North Sydney and Paul, Fort McMurray and two very special godchildren, Jimmy MacDonald and Wendy Dunphy.
She was predeceased by one sister, Yvonne Hines and one stepbrother, James McLean.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday) and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney with the Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

Holly Gilbert Leet
64, Mira
A memorial service for the late Holly Gilbert Leet of Hillside Road, Mira, who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel Friday, March 3, at 6 p.m.

Gregory Michael MacIsaac
March 22, 1923 - March 1, 2000, Glace Bay
Gregory Michael MacIsaac, 76, of 25 Deanna Dr., Glace Bay, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, March 1, 2000, after a lengthy illness.
He was the son of the late Daniel and Flora (MacDonald) MacIsaac.
He was a long time resident of the Sterling area and a former parishioner of St. Leo’s Parish. He retired in 1979 from Devco, after 38 years, due to poor health.
He is survived by his wife, Ursula (Timmons) MacIsaac; son, Donnie (Mary), New Waterford and daughter, Clare (Wayne) Hurley, Glace Bay.
He is also survived by sister, Carmel Tobin, Barra Head, Richmond County and several nieces and nephews.
Papa’s life was enriched by the love and companionship of his grandchildren, Daniel MacIsaac and Anne Marie and Catherine Hurley. He will be missed by John Burke, his special friend for many years whose visits brightened his days.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Joe and sister-in-law, Cora, sister, Mary and foster sister, Margaret Weyman. Recently he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Larry Tobin. In 1993 he was predeceased by his infant grandson, Michael MacIsaac.
Visitation will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
