Jessie Christina MacKay
77, The Points West Bay
Jessie Christina MacKay, 77, of The Points West Bay, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at home in Coxheath, N.S.
Born in Oban, Richmond County, she the daughter of the late Alex N. and Annie (Campbell) MacDonald.
She was a lifelong member of the Black River United Church, Dundee, N.S.
She is survived by daughters, Christene (Ron) MacKillop, Coxheath, Valerie (Barry) George, Bridgewater and son, Donnie (Yvonne) MacKay, St. Georges Channel; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Catherine Gordon, Coxheath, Alice (Ted) Neiforth, St. Peter’s; brother, Donald (Ella) MacDonald, Oban and several nephews and one niece.
She was predeceased by her husband, Willie D. MacKay and son, Gary MacKay.
Visitation will be at the family home in The Points West Bay this evening (Thursday) 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from Black River United Church with Rev. Keith Adams officiating. Burial to follow in the MacKay Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s.
Donald MacPherson
88, Dominion
Donald MacPherson, 88, of 147 Neville St., Dominion, died peacefully Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born at Portage, he was the son of the late William and Mary Ann (O’Handley) MacPherson.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport; a member of the Holy Name Society and a founding member of Immaculate Conception Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Dominion Pensioners Club. Donald will be fondly remembered by the community as an avid fiddler.
He was employed with the Dominion Coal Company for 23 years, then B and D Ready Mix and Lundrigan’s Construction until his retirement.
He is survived by three sons, Donald (Carol Ann) and Billy (Gen), both of Dominion and Jimmy (Mary Ann), Scarborough, Ont.; three daughters, Betty Lou (Michael) MacLeod, Dominion, Ellen (Warren) Warnell and Patricia (Ernie) St. Amour, both of Etobicoke, Ont.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve (Saccary), daughter, Mary Catherine McDonald, brothers, Jack and Billy, sisters, Kate, Sadie, Mary, Peggy and Cecilia.
Visitation for the late Donald MacPherson will be held today (Thursday) 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.

Alfred Joseph Turner
Glace Bay
Alfred Joseph Turner of 14 McPherson St., Glace Bay, passed away Sunday, Feb. 29, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Mary Josephine (Southwell) Turner and the late Alfred Turner. Mr. Turner was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay. He worked in the construction industry.
Besides his mother, he is survived by brothers, Stephen (with whom he resided), Glace Bay and Vincent, Tower Road; sisters, Kathleen (Mrs. Timothy Donovan), Glace Bay and Mary Thiel, Dominion. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family visitation for the late Mr. Turner in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2000 in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. John Graham officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

He will be sadly missed by his mother, Mary and brother, Steve and all his family.
Doane Gerrad Curtis

Doane Gerard Curtis, 75, of Cottage Road, Sydney, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2000 in Sydney.

Marion Winifred Jamieson
66, Glace Bay
Marion Winifred Jamieson, 66, of 5 Highland St., Glace Bay, passed away peacefully at her residence, Wednesday, March 1, 2000, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Little) Murray.
Marion was a member of Epworth United Church, Glace Bay. She was an active bowler at both the Knox and Heather lanes in the Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon ladies league. She enjoyed the summers out on the Mira.
Marion is survived by her husband, Charles (Chuck) Jamieson; daughters, Patricia (Ron) Walsh, Sydney River, Darlene (Mike) Marman, Glace Bay; sons, Charlie (Lillian), Chatham, N.B., Raymond (Barbara), Glace Bay, Michael (Tanya), Glace Bay; nine grandchildren, Adam and Zachary Walsh, Eric, Bradley and Heather Jamieson, Ryan and Sara Marman, Brianna and Nicole Jamieson; sisters, Ada (Roy MacIntosh), Toronto, Ann MacDonald, Sydney; brothers, Abe, Ontario, Bill (Margie), Reserve Mines, Mil and Josh, both in Alberta, Gordon (Penny), Reserve Mines.
Predeceased by sister, Vivian, brother, George and two sisters and a brother in infancy.
Visitation will be held today (Friday), March 3, 2000 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held Saturday, March 4, 2000, at 2 p.m. in Epworth United Church, Glace Bay, with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton; the Victorian Order of Nurses or to a charity of choice.
Ethel Mae LeBlanc
52, North Sydney
Ethel Mae LeBlanc, 52, a resident of Gisborne Street, North Sydney, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at home.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late William and Jeanette (Hines) Williams. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney.
Surviving are her husband, William “Willie” LeBlanc, North Sydney; three sons, Charlie (Catherine), Ontario, Shawn (Lydia), North Sydney, Duke, at home; four sisters, Jackie (Mrs. Charles Herald) and Diane (Mrs. John Genter), both of Florence, Violet (Mrs. Michael Jamael), Sydney and Janice Fraser, Edmonton; two brothers, Bill (Nancy), North Sydney and Paul, Fort McMurray. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Kimberly, Shawn, Alicia, Troy, Ryan, Victoria, Destiny and Andrew and two very special godchildren, Jimmy MacDonald and Wendy Dunphy.
She was predeceased by one sister, Yvonne Hines and one stepbrother, James McLean.
Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Thursday and will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney with the Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
