Neil MacLean-Robertson
15, Antigonish
Neil MacLean-Robertson, 15, of Antigonish, son of Carol Anne and Peter MacKenzie, Scott and Laurel Robertson, slipped quietly into the hands of God while surrounded by his loving family, Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at the IWK Hospital, Halifax.
As he drew his last breath, each one in his family held him until the angels came to collect him.
Neil was born in Antigonish on Sept. 27, 1984 and lived most of his life at Taigh Gradhach (House of Love) in Sydney. In his very special home he had another loving family who cared for him with such love, he was their baby.
Besides his parents, he is survived by brothers, Warren, Antigonish, Duncan Robertson, Fall River, Troy (Joanne) MacKenzie, Red Deer, Alta., Trevor MacKenzie, Sydney; sister, Shelly MacKenzie, Halifax. Also surviving him are maternal grandmother, Bellann MacLean, Antigonish; paternal grandparents, Janet and Archie Robertson, Truro and Olive Clark, Hantsport; great-grandmother, Marjorie (Sterling) McCarthy, Truro; aunts, Charlotte Murray, Mary D. MacLean-Barnhill, Janann (Stan) Smith and Susan (Martin) MacDonald, all of Antigonish; uncle, John William MacLean, St. Josephs.
He was predeceased by maternal grandfather, Willard MacLean and uncle, Joe MacLean.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) and 10-1:30 p.m. Saturday at MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Saturday, 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, St. Josephs with the Rev. Daniel MacLennan officiating. Burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the IWK Hospital, Halifax or Taigh Gradhach, Sydney.
Neil Archie MacNeil
61, Sydney
Neil Archie MacNeil, 61, of 44 Thomas St., Sydney, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, as a result of a car-pedestrian accident on Nov. 3, 1997.
Born at Benacadie, he was the son of the late Dan J. and Lucy (MacDonald) MacNeil, Sydney.
He was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Sydney. Neil was employed at Vista Heights, Esplanade, Sydney. He loved playing cards, watching his team the Montreal Canadiens, fishing and visiting with friends.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Tommy, Calgary; daughter, Cathy (Jackie), London, Ont. and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Justin. He is also survived by his companion, Blanche Poirier; three sisters, Liz (Frank) Brophy, Wallingford, Conn., U.S.A., Dena (Bernie) LeBlanc, Westmount and Kay (Gary) Globe, Sydney; four brothers, Mickey (Frances), Glace Bay, Alonzo (Wendy), Halifax, Rannie (Betty) and Kevin, both of Sydney; five nieces, Lisa, Laurie, Karen, Janice and Courtney and seven nephews, Frank, Bernie, Gary, Brian, Mike, Kenzie and Connor.
He was predeceased by a nephew, Jamie MacNeil.
The late Mr. MacNeil will have visitation Saturday, 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 6, in St. Anthony Daniel Church with the Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Gerrit Schuurkamp
78, North Sydney
Gerrit Schuurkamp, 78, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, formerly of Union Street, North Sydney, died Thursday, March 2, 2000.
Gerrit immigrated to Canada from Arnhem, Holland in October, 1954. He was a long-time employee of Marine Atlantic, retiring on March 31, 1986, after 30 years of service. Gerrit was also an active fisherman for many years. Gerrit was well known in the industrial Cape Breton area for his quality of smoked fish.
Gerrit is survived by his loving wife, Geertruida; two sons, Gerrit, Kempt Head and John (Rodina), Florence; three daughters, Trish (Mrs. William Taylor), North Sydney, Brenda (Mrs. Duncan MacLeod) and Thea Schuurkamp (Mrs. Brian MacLellan), both of Kempt Head; six grandchildren, Troy, Gerrit, Dawn Taylor, Nathan, Joe and Emmaly MacLeod. Gerrit is also survived by seven sisters, all residing in Holland.
Gerrit was predeceased by his parents, eight brothers, three sisters and a grandson, Daniel Kenneth MacLeod.
Visitation will take place Saturday, March 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney. Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5 at Knox Presbyterian Church, Ross Ferry with the Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Interment to follow at MacDonald Cemetery, Ross Ferry.

Doane Gerrad Curtis
Sydney
Doane Gerard Curtis, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Doane Sr. and Jesse (Kavanaugh) Curtis.
Doane served over 45 years with the Government of Canada, having retired as assistant manager of Employment and Immigration Canada.
For many years he was president of the local civil service union. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a longstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12 and the Cape Breton Naval Veterans Association.
He was a former Third Degree Knight of Columbus and a former board member of the John Howard Society.
Surviving are his wife, the former Anne Marie Frederickson; sons, Mark and Jeff and daughter, Jan; sisters, Marjorie, Mary, Betty, Marilyn and brother, Ken.
He was predeceased by a brother, Warner.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Mass will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, George Street, Sydney with the Rev. A. O’Connor officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Stephen F. Dennis
61, Eskasoni
Stephen F. (Uncle) Dennis, 61, of Eskasoni, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Thursday, March 2, 2000.
Born in Eskasoni, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Bella (Bernard) Dennis.
He was a member of the Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni. For many years, he was employed as a hospital taxi driver.
He is survived by sisters, Helena (Mrs. Levi Joe), Mabel, Paula, Denise, Joyce, Wendy and Peggy, all of Eskasoni; brothers, Francis, Clayton (Catherine) and Lyndon, all of Eskasoni. Also surviving is stepmother, Mary Jane Dennis and many nieces and nephews. He resided with his nephew, Christopher (Burr) Dennis.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Anthanasius, Joseph Noel and Perry.
Visitation for the late Mr. Dennis will take place at his residence at 85A Shore Rd., Eskasoni, Sunday, March 5, 2000 at 7 p.m. Funeral will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Eskasoni.
Burial in the parish cemetery under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
V.R. Jacqualine Kennedy
Memorial Service
A memorial service for the late V.R. Jacqualine Kennedy, daughter of Phyllis and Millage Peach, Port Morien, and the late Ray Kennedy of Louisbourg, will be held at St. Bartolomew’s Church, Louisbourg, Sunday, March 5, at 2:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Annie MacDonald
100, Sydney
Annie MacDonald, 100, a resident of The Cove Guest Home, formerly of Leitches Creek, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at the home.
Born at Groves Point, she was the daughter of the late Alan J. and Christine (MacLean) Patterson.
She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney. She was a life long resident of Leitches Creek and resided over 30 years at The Cove Guest Home.
She is survived by her son, Ross (Elizabeth), Prospect Bay, N.S.; three grandchildren, Sharon (Mrs. Eric Piermont), Paris, France, Eric MacDonald, Ottawa, Heather MacDonald, Montreal and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Hugh Ross MacDonald, one sister, Tena (Philip MacKeigan), two brothers, Neil and Charles Patterson.
Visitation will be at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Dale Irving officiating. Burial at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
