Arlene (Steele) MacDonald
47, New Waterford
Arlene (Steele) MacDonald, 47, of New Waterford, formerly of Reserve Mines, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born Nov. 1, 1952, Arlene was the daughter of Hilda (Burton) Steele and the late Allan Steele.
Arlene was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Reserve Mines, before moving to New Waterford, where she was a member of St. Michael’s Parish, River Ryan. Arlene lived her life by the golden rule, doing unto others as she would have them do unto her. She was noted for her constant smile, generosity, kindness, good deeds and her deep concern for others. She lived the Christian faith she so devotedly practiced. She graduated from Reserve District High School and was employed by Shoppers Drug Mart, Glace Bay for the past 28 years.
She is survived by her husband, Ron, son of Ronald and Ella (Gillis) MacDonald; two sons, Allan and Scott. Also surviving are her brothers, Allan and wife Bertha, Sydney, Wayne and wife, Lois, Halifax; sisters, Lynn and husband, Kenneth Graham, Karen and husband Donald Wilson, both of Sydney River. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Allan, sister, Leona and brother, Blair Darrel.
The remains are resting at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. Visitation will be held today (Saturday) 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass, Monday, March 6, 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines with Fr. John Graham officiating, co-celebrants, Fr. Lester Marchand and Fr. Ray Huntley. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

Irene (Lannon) MacDonald
79, Glace Bay
Irene (Lannon) MacDonald, 79, of 86 Minto St., Glace Bay, slipped peacefully into the hands of God on Friday, March 3, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Mansfield) Lannon.
Irene is survived by three sons, J.R. (Jeanette), New Brunswick, Roddie, Glace Bay, Robert (April), Halifax; three daughters, Jeanette, Patricia and Shirley, all of Glace Bay. Also survived by a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette, Joan and Patricia, all of Glace Bay and Josie, Niagara Falls; brothers, Ned, Glace Bay, Don, Montreal; stepdaughters, Florence (Wally Young), Glace Bay, Catherine (Steve Morrison), Glace Bay; stepsons, Allister (Sis), Glace Bay and Edward, Calgary.
Irene was predeceased by her loving husband, Roddie and daughters, Beverly Mitchell and Carol Ann, brothers, Jimmy and Tony and sister, Nellie Brown.
The late Mrs. MacDonald will have a private family service, under the direction of Patten Funeral Home and Chapel.
She will be sadly missed and always loved by her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Isabel MacIsaac
95, New Waterford
Isabel MacIsaac, 95, of 3327 Veniot St., New Waterford, died Friday, March 3, 2000, in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Codroy Valley, Nfld., Mrs. MacIsaac was a member of Mount Carmel Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Pauline Pineo, Halifax; three sons, Gordon, New Waterford, Raymond, Amherst and John, Sudbury, Ont.; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. MacIsaac was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, John F. MacIsaac.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral Monday at 10 a.m. at Mount Carmel Church. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Ernest Maidment
83, Glace Bay
Ernest Maidment, 83, of 203 King Edward St., Glace Bay, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late George and Bessie (Taylor) Maidment.
He was an adherent of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Tanglewood, Sydney. He was a longtime resident of Hay Street, Glace Bay, where he operated a convenience store for many years. He was also employed with Bobby Guy and Cameron’s Building Supplies. He was a member of the Glace Bay Pensioners Club, Sergeants Mess, mixed dart league and Branch 3 Mixed Dart League. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by daughter, Noelle MacLeod (Kevin), Glace Bay; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and longtime friends, Danny and Gertie Jessome.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Charlene in infancy, brothers, Gordon and Wilfred, sisters, Olive and Pearl.
Visitation will be held today (Saturday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Sunday 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with President Norman Macdonald officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Malcolm John McKay
54, Sydney
Malcolm John McKay, 54, of Lake Echo, formerly of Sydney, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII.
Born in Moncton, N.B., he was a son of Catherine (Gayton) McKay, Dartmouth and the late John McKay.
He worked with Dominion stores for 21 years retiring as store manager in 1986. He also worked several years with Pillsbury.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and boating. He was especially proud of his vegetable garden. He was a collector of stamps, bottles and coins and would always enjoy a game of chess and Sunday drives in the country.
Surviving are his wife, the former Susan Loretta (nee Gammon); daughter, Heather Lynn, Halifax; sons, Jeffry John, Sydney Mines, Douglas Raymond, Sydney and sister, Sharron George, Dartmouth.
Cremation and memorial service have taken place in Dartmouth. Burial took place in Calvin Cemetery, Lawrencetown.
Donations to Canadian Diabetes Association or Kidney Foundation of Canada, N.S. Branch.

Kenneth J. Ross
Lynchburg, Va.
Kenneth J. Ross died at his home in Lynchburg, Va. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, after an extended illness.
Born in Sydney, N.S., on March 17, 1935, to the late John and Mary (Brown) Ross.
Ken was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and loved his occupation of 18 years at IMC Corporation, Lynchburg.
He is survived by his sister, Marie Stephens and a brother, Buster Ross, both of Sydney; also a daughter, Renee Ross, New Hampshire; stepson, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Brouillyard and their children, New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Bessie, Sylvia and Mary.
