Eva Joyce Whidden
69, Westmount
Eva Joyce Whidden, 69, of Fulton Avenue, Westmount passed away Saturday, Mar. 4, 2000, at her residence.
Eva was born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of Effie (Stewart) MacIsaac, Glace Bay, and the late John A. MacIsaac.
She was a retired school teacher with the town of Glace Bay and the Cape Breton Municipal School Board. She was a member of Sydney River United Protestant Church, the Canadian Foresters, and a founding member of Harbourside Seniors. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of 350 club at the Heather Bowling Lanes, Glace Bay.
Eva was loved for her kindness and generosity, her gentle manner and her deep caring for others. Throughout her life, she gave of herself unconditionally and enriched the lives of all those she touched.
Eva is survived by her husband, Roy E. Whidden; two sons, Roy A. and his wife Lee of Halifax and Jeffery A. and his wife Noelle, Plainsboro, N.J.; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Lauren whom she cherished. Also surviving are seven sisters, Norma Curnew, Isabel McDonald (Daniel), Myra MacIsaac, Sandra MacDonald and Annie Smith (Weldon), all of Glace Bay, Louanne MacDonald (Joseph), Shelburne, N.S., and Alexandra Crouse (Ora), Trenton, Ont.; three brothers, Robert (Lillian) MacIsaac, Donald (Jackie) MacIsaac and Norman (Lucy) MacIsaac, all of Glace Bay; sister-in-law, Irene MacIsaac, Port Hawkesbury.
She was predeceased by her brother Stewart.
Visitation was held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Sunday 7-9 p.m. and will be held Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in Sydney River United Church Tuesday 2 p.m. with Rev. Alan McIntosh officiating. Interment in Alfred Smith Memorial Cemetery. There will be a Foresters Service Monday at 7 p.m., in Sydney Memorial Chapel.
Memorials may be made to C.B. Palliative Care, Sydney River United Protestant Church or Canadian Cancer Society.
James Andrew Woodrow
Sydney
James Andrew Woodrow of 312 Esplanade, Sydney, passed away Saturday, Mar. 4, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Bay De Verde, Nfld., he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (McCarthy) Woodrow. He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney. Jim was employed as a Stationary Engineer with #12 Colliery in New Waterford. Moving to Sydney in 1952, he carried on his engineering career at St. Andrew’s United Church followed by employment with the Sydney City Hospital until his retirement.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Morah Matheson; three daughters, Mary Bedford, Omaha, Nebraska, Sarah Woodrow, Sydney, and Maureen (Mrs. Hector Inzunza), Halifax; four sons, Patrick Myles (Veronica), James Andrew (Brenda), both of Dartmouth, John Richard, Antigonish, and Michael Allen (Tanya), Burton, N.B. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister Mary Elizabeth and a grandson James Andrew in infancy.
The late Mr. Woodrow will have visitation today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dale Irving officiating and assisted by Fr. Dwyer. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Sadie Matheson
95, Marion Bridge
Sadie Matheson, 95, of Marion Bridge, died peacefully at home, among family and friends, Sunday, March 5, 2000.
Born in Hillside Mira, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Flora (MacKinnon) MacKeigan.
Sadie was a member of Bethel United Church, Marion Bridge. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by daughters, Marie (Kenneth) Nicol, Houston, Tex., Gloria (Gene) Scott, Venice, Fla. and Joan (Louis) Townsend, Kingston, Ont.; three sons, Ross (Jessie Mae), Marion Bridge, John W. (Linda), Texas and Stewart (Erin), Sarasota, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Sadie was predeceased by her husband, Neil, sisters, Mary, Katie, Margaret and Barbara, brothers, Norma and Alex and one grandson.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Bethel United Church, Marion Bridge, Wednesday, 3 p.m. with the Rev. Lewis Crewe officiating. Interment will be in Oakfield Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Bethel United Church Building Fund.
Clyde Alexander Mumford
83, Sydney Mines
Clyde Alexander Mumford, 83, of the Veterans Wing, Harbourview Hospital, Sydney Mines, passed away Sunday, March, 5, 2000, at the Harbourview Hospital.
Born in Scotch Village, Hants County, he was a son of the late Lewis and Clara (Hill) Mumford.
Clyde was a truck driver for many years. He retired from the Canadian Corp. of Commissionaires, Louisbourg and also the Canadian Radar Base, Sydney. He was a member of the Canadian Provost Corp. during the Second World War.
He is survived by his wife, Olive; daughter, Claudia (Francis) Gillis, Sydney; sons, Frank, Truro, John, Sydney and Keith, Debert; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Clyde was predeceased by a son and daughter in infancy, sisters, Verna, Viola, Carrie (Toots), Maude and brothers, Ervin and Howard.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Willis Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Oak Island Cemetery, Hants County, Nova Scotia.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
Gerald (Gerry) Nichols
75, Sydney
Gerald Nichols, 75, of 415 Cottage Rd., Sydney, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the Queen Elizabeth Health Centre, Halifax.
Born at Sydney, he was the son of the late George and Wilhelmina (French) Nichols.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Sydney. Gerry was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas in the Royal Canadian Navy and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 12, Sydney. Gerry was also a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Crafts Union, Local 2, Sydney and worked at Sydney Steel for 40 years as a bricklayer, retiring as superintendent of the masonry department in 1987. He was also Fair Manager of the Atlantic Provinces Trowel Trades Conference.
Gerry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and boating. He also enjoyed curling, bowling, darts and shuffleboard and was a member of Club 55 and the Pensioners Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Victoria Bereta; one daughter, Debbie and Len (MacDonald), Inuvik, N.W.T.; two sons, David and Arlene (MacDonald), Sydney and Edward and Carolyn (Muise), California; five grandchildren, Derek and Deborah, Sydney, Kenzie, Cameron and Erin, Inuvik, N.W.T. Also survived by six sisters, Sue Gushue, Edna Dobson, Babe (James) Hollohan, all of Sydney, Nellie (Garnet) Ellis and Catherine Bailey, both of Etobicoke, Ont. and Elizabeth (Thomas) Creber, Ontario. Gerald will be sadly missed and always loved, but never forgotten by his family.
He was predeceased by a brother, Wesley and three sisters, Hazel, Viola Smith and Dorothy Brophy.
The late Mr. Nichols will have no visitation as cremation has taken place under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, in St. Joseph’s Church, Cabot Street, Sydney with the Rev. Dan MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Leona (MacLennan) Faulder
Worthing, England
Mary Leona Faulder, 51, formerly of 311 Borden St., Sydney, died peacefully Friday, March 3, 2000, at her home in Worthing, England.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Michael (Mick Sandy) and Helen (MacKinnon) MacLennan.
She was employed with the British Revenue Service in Worthing. Leona graduated from Sydney Academy, attended Xavier Junior College, St. Francis Xavier University and the University of Toronto.
She is survived by daughters, Susan and Sarah, both of Worthing and one son, Edwin Philip, London. Also surviving are sister, Barbara (Norman) MacEachern, Sydney, brothers, Michael (Cheryl), Scarborough, Ont. and Philip (Marina), Beaver Cove. Leona is also survived by nephews, Shaun, Cailin and Douglas MacLennan, Beaver Cove and Michael MacLennan, Halifax, niece, Helen (Val) MacDougall, Westmount.
Leona was predeceased by a brother, Philip in infancy.
Cremation took place in Worthing. A memorial mass will be held Monday, March 13, at 6 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Victoria Road, Whitney Pier.
