Dorothy Mabel Fitzpatrick
90, Glace Bay
Dorothy Mabel Fitzpatrick, 90, of Seaview Manor and formerly of Port Caledonia, died peacefully, Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the manor, surrounded by her family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the youngest daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Warford) Knight.
She was a member of the Salvation Army and the Home League. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by her son, Johnny (Annie) Keswick, Ont.; daughter-in-law, Julia, Glace Bay and son-in-law, Roderick MacDougall, Port Caledonia; 10 grandchildren, Cheryl, Marlene, Alana, Laura Lee, Tammy, all of Keswick, Ont., Sherry and Kirk, both of Barrie, Ont., Charlene, Donkin, Ivan and Wanda, both of Glace Bay. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Ivan in 1964, son, Ivan in 1977 and daughter, Thirza in 1983, brothers, John and Reuben, sisters, Violet Page and Clarice Hallett and one grandchild at birth.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Burial will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are under the direction of Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
John Martin O'Connor Igoe
Weymouth, N.S.
The death of John Igoe of Weymouth, N.S., occurred Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in his 72nd year, at Tide View Terrace Nursing Home, Digby, N.S.
Born in Gotham, Notts, England, he was the son of the late Francis and Ida (Bowley) Igoe.
John served with the British Navy, the Royal Canadian Navy, and was an avid gardener and greenhouse grower.
He is survived by one son, James, Wolfville, N.S.; five daughters, Elizabeth Crompton, Grand Manan, N.B., Caroline Igoe, Burton, N.B., Susan (Martin) Abenheimer, Sydney, N.S., Barbara (John) Horsman, Edmonton, Alta. and Cathy (John) Connley, St. Stephen, N.B.; three brothers, Phillip and William, Nottingham, England and Peter, Beaconsfield, England; one sister, Mollie Igoe, Nottingham, England; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Caroline, Andrew, Rebecca, Hannah, Abigail, Joshua, Hadley and John Byron and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Kathleen Cramp and Betty Igoe.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gerald (Gerry) Nichols
75, Sydney
Gerald Nichols, 75, of 415 Cottage Rd., Sydney, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the Queen Elizabeth Health Centre, Halifax.
Born at Sydney, he was the son of the late George and Wilhelmina (French) Nichols.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Sydney. Gerry was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas in the Royal Canadian Navy and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 12, Sydney. Gerry was also a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Crafts Union, Local 2, Sydney and worked at Sydney Steel for 40 years as a bricklayer, retiring as superintendent of the masonry department in 1987. He was also Fair Manager of the Atlantic Provinces Trowel Trades Conference.
Gerry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and boating. He also enjoyed curling, bowling, darts and shuffleboard and was a member of Club 55 and the Pensioners Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Victoria Bereta; one daughter, Debbie and Len (MacDonald), Inuvik, N.W.T.; two sons, David and Arlene (MacDonald), Sydney and Edward and Carolyn (Muise), California; five grandchildren, Derek and Deborah, Sydney, Kenzie, Cameron and Erin, Inuvik, N.W.T. Also survived by six sisters, Sue Gushue, Edna Dobson, Babe (James) Hollohan, all of Sydney, Nellie (Garnet) Ellis and Catherine Bailey, both of Etobicoke, Ont. and Elizabeth (Thomas) Creber, Ontario; two brothers, Charles and Walter, both of Sydney.
Gerald will be sadly missed and always loved, but never forgotten by his family.
He was predeceased by a brother, Wesley and three sisters, Hazel, Viola Smith and Dorothy Brophy.
The late Mr. Nichols will have no visitation as cremation has taken place under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, in St. Joseph’s Church, Cabot Street, Sydney with the Rev. Dan MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Lung Association.
Catherine (Kaye) Wrigg
86, Sydney
Kaye Wrigg, 86, of 65 Ferguson Dr., Sydney, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney.
Born at New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Elizabeth (Steele) Grant.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart Parish, Mira Road. Kaye was employed at the Smart Shop and Jacobson’s in Sydney for over 30 years up until her retirement.
She is survived by one daughter, Sheila (Mrs. Guido Vaninetti), South Bar; two sisters, Elizabeth MacDonald, New Waterford and Mary (Mrs. Cecil Snow), Oromocto, N.B.; a brother, Bernard (Phyl), Windsor, N.S.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph (1992), two sisters, Lena and Lillian, three brothers, John, Alex and Tom and a daughter, Elizabeth in infancy.
The late Mrs. Wrigg will have visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Heart Church, Mira Road with Rev. James Atwood officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Charles (Chuckie) Bernard
44, Waycobah First Nation
Charles (Chuckie) Bernard, 44, of Waycobah First Nation, Inverness County, died Monday, March 6, 2000, in Waycobah.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Annie Mae (Sylliboy) Bernard.
He was a local fisherman and was self-employed. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Waycobah.
Chuckie is survived by his wife, the former Anne Madeline Bernard; daughter, Patricia Anne (Patty), Waycobah; son, Fredrick Andrew, Waycobah; sisters, Julena Bernard and Rose Mary (Ducy) Paul, both of Waycobah, Mona Denny, Eskasoni, Gina, Waycobah; brothers, Lawrence, Walter, Alan, John Wayne, Peter (Seven), Carl, John, all of Waycobah; granddaughter, Emerald Bernard, Waycobah; many nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; many godchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Fredrick.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the family residence, 8787 Waycobah. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Bernie MacDonald officiating. Cremation to follow with burial at a later date.

Richard Lloyd Curry
75, Sydney/Reseve Mines
Richard Lloyd Curry, 75, of 60 Champlain Ave., Sydney, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late John and Hattie (MacPherson) Curry.
Richard was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Sydney. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney. He loved gardening, watching television, reading, and especially spending time with his dog, Blackie. He was a veteran of the Second World War and also the Korean War. Richard retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1971. He also worked in the lab at Western University in London, Ont. for 14 years, as well as working at the University College of Cape Breton as a commissionaire for eight years.
He is survived by two brothers, Michael (Rose), Glace Bay and John, London, Ont.; three sisters, Rita (Mrs. Jack Wilson), Victoria Mines, Christine (Mrs. Tom MacNeil), Reserve Mines and Barbara (Mrs. Bill Mason), Whitehorse.
Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife, the former Linda (Shinko) Osaki, son, John Richard, brother, Gordon and a sister, Marilyn (Sis).
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A memorial mass and private burial will take place at a later date with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating.
As an expression of sympathy for Richard, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church or St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund, Reserve Mines, or to a charity of choice.
