William Percy Way

William Percy Way, May 22, 1908 - November 26, 2007 A kind, courageous and optimistic man who was loved by many, has found peace. Our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at Spruce Lodge on Monday, November 26, 2007 in his 100th year with family by his side. He leaves his beloved wife Dorothy, his loving children Ruth (Ray) Mulford, Marjorie (Paul) Thompson, Eleanor Way, Beth (Jim) Gilbey and step daughters Joyce (Bob) Blowers, Karen (Martyn) Wesley. In addition he leaves 13 grandchildren, Mark Mulford, Patricia Minchella (Frank), Richard Mulford (Belinda), Tom Mulford (Becki Handley), Margot Thompson (Rollie Guertin), John Thompson (Samantha), David Thompson (Kristine), Heather Stewart (Richard), Glenn Way (Michelle), Andrew Way (Melissa), Ben Collins, Liana Collins (Jeff Hogan), Brian Eby (Laurie), 9 step grandchildren. Great grandfather to 19 great grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren. Also survived by sister-in-law Grace Campbell and numerous nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his parents William and Sophia (Pratt) Way, by his first wife Jean (Campbell) 1980, by his son William Alex Way 2003 and by a son-in-law Grant Collins 1987, also predeceased by sisters Emma Welsh (B.C.), Mabel Newman (Red Deer, Alberta), and brother Clifford Way (Calgary, Alberta). Percy farmed for many years, owned and operated a chicken hatchery, operated a John Deere Franchise in North Easthope Township and was Farm Building Representative for Beaver Lumber. He was a lifelong member of Central United Church, Stratford, was a member of the Kinsman Club, the Kiwanis Club, the Cabby Club and the Golden Oldies where he entertained many with his magic shows. Percy touched the lives of numerous people during his 99 years. He will be remembered by many who knew him as a talented woodworker, a wonderful gardener, world traveler and most importantly, a devoted family man. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday, November 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Cheryl Ann Stadelbauer-Sampa will officiate. Interment in Avondale cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, Central United Church or the charity of one's choice through the funeral home.

Shirley Ann Neeb

Shirley Ann Neeb, age 52, of RR# 3 Lakeside, passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, November 29, 2007. Shirley is survived by special friend and companion Wayne Nairn. Loving daughter of Mabel Diehl, RR# 2 Milverton. Dear sister of Irene Partridge, RR# 1 Brunner, Lloyd Diehl Jr. (Brenda Charbaneau), Shakespeare, Murray Diehl, RR# 2 Milverton, Richard Diehl (Julia Hodgins-Diehl), RR# 2 Milverton. Also survived by a sister-in-law Julia Griffore (Gabriel), Bothwell, father-in-law Allen Neeb, Stratford, nieces and nephews Virginia Partridge, Heather Partridge (Freeman Boyd), Ryan Partridge, Michael Diehl, Daniel Diehl, Pamela Diehl, Ethan Diehl, Jaime Griffore (Mark), Mark Griffore (Barb) and great nieces and nephews Kyle, Karli and Tuesday. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Jacob (Jake) Neeb (1989), by her father Lloyd Diehl, a brother-in-law Ronald Partridge and by her mother-in-law Viola Neeb. Shirley had worked with Electrohome in Milverton, Canadian Fabricated Products and later with Food Basics. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St. Stratford on Sunday, December 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. Interment in Avondale cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice through the funeral home.

Mary Smith

passed away peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre Palliative Care Unit on Friday March 14, 2008 in her 94th year. Resident of Stratford for 92 years, kindergarten teacher at Shakespeare Public School from 1936 until her retirement in 1971 and lifetime member of Centennial United Church. Predeceased by her parents Wm. J. Smith and Lottie Smith, nee Hurrell and her brother Wm. H. Smith and sister-in law Eleanor Smith, nee Leinweber.
Survived by her niece Linda Nelson, nee Smith and husband Robert Nelson of Peterborough; (sister-in-law) Betty McCann nee Leinweber of Stratford and second cousins Mary Lou Scott and Lois Rivers of Hamilton, Joan Harrison of Utah and Penny Treloar of Pickering and their families. Friends and relatives may call at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Saturday May 31st from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:30 a.m. with reception to follow. In memory of Mary, donations to Parkview United Church or Stratford General Hospital would be appreciated by the family and may be made through the funeral home.

Jerry Viani

Giuliano (Jerry) Viani age 78 of Windemere Cr., Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Friday May 16, 2008. He was born in Lucca, Italy son of the late Silvio and Adele Viani and came to Stratford from Italy in 1956. He owned and operated Zip-In Market at Nile and Douro Streets for many years. His family was the love of his life. He enjoyed music, with a fondness for great tenors, and his "Olds 98". A visit was never complete without breaking bread. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church.
Beloved husband of Christina (Wiedemann) whom he married July 08, 1961 in Stratford. Loving father of Rob Viani and wife Lorrie and their children Chris, Tyler, Mark and Michael; Julie and her husband Mike Kalis and their children Alexander and T.J. Dear brother of Giuseppe Viani and wife Silvana, Oliva and husband John Del Chiaro, Maria Del Chiaro. Brother in law of Carla Viani and Ornella Viani. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers Pasquale and Franco Viani and a brother in law Alberto Del Chiaro.
A public funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday May 20 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception in the parish hall. Rev. Father Tom Ferrera will be celebrant.

Marie Foley-MacGregor

Mrs. L. Marie Foley-MacGregor, age 84, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Saturday, May 17, 2008. She was born in Wilmot Township, daughter of the late Allan and Mary Leis. Loving mother of Dennis Foley (Marilyn), Shakespeare. Devoted Nana of Steven Foley (Heather), Milverton, Shawn Foley (Sharon), Orr Lake, Stuart Foley (Kristin), London and to her five great grandchildren Seleena, Thomas, Cassie, Samantha and Maxwell. Also survived by 6 step children Dorothy Norris (Bill), Evelyn Lee (Les), Grace Holtz, Barbara Hartung, Donalda Horst, Donald Foley (Audrey) and their families. Several brothers and sisters and their families also survive. Marie was predeceased by her first husband Thomas A. Foley (1979) , by her second husband Alastair MacGregor (1984) and by a step son Thomas H. Foley. Marie had worked at Sparr Plant producing parts for Mosquito Bombers during the Second World War, Federal Rubber and later Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Stratford and past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Tavistock Legion. Marie volunteered with the House of Blessing, loved to quilt and cook and enjoyed baby sitting the neighbourhood kids for many years. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St. Stratford on Tuesday, May 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Stratford on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Rev. Timothy Teuscher will officiate. Interment in Avondale cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society through the funeral home. Irene Switzer

Irene N. Switzer, age 57, of Sebringville passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 17, 2008. She was born in Costa Rica, daughter of Alberytina Oviedo De Angalo who resides in Costa Rica and the late Jose De Angalo. Survived by her husband John and his daughters Dianne Walkom (Brian), Stratford and their children Elizabeth and Rebecca, Grace Ferguson (Kevin), Harriston and their children Andrew, Nicholas and Curtis; 2 brothers and 2 sisters and their families in Costa Rica; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jim Hosking (Joan), London, Bill Switzer (Lorna), Stratford, Peter Switzer (Audrey), Stratford, Ray Switzer (Sheila), St. Marys. Besides her father she was predeceased by a brother. A service for friends and family will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Saturday, May 24 at 3 p.m. Visitation from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or the Sebringville Athletic Association through the funeral home.

Gary Denham

Gary Douglas Denham, age 69, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Tuesday May 20, 2008. Born in Fort Erie, son of Vi Winger of Cayuga and the late Ralph Denham. Beloved husband of Eva (Brazier) Denham. Loving father of Marty Denham and wife Susan and Douglas Denham and wife Shannon. Loving grandpa of Corey, Benjamin, Allison Denham of Stratford, Madison, Vanessa, Devon Denham of Moosejaw, Saskatchewan. Also survived by sister Lynne and husband Sheldon of Wallaceburg and sadly missed by special relatives Susie Ferrell, Bob and Connie Robb and Bob and Lil Phelphs. Besides his father he was predeceased by son Sean. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. John Frank Tompkins

Mr. John Frank Tompkins, age 81, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Friday May 23, 2008. Born in England, son of the late Frank Tompkins and the former Iris Stevens. John came to Canada in 1948 and was employed at Cooper-Besemer for many years until his retirement. He was a founding member of the Stratford Cycling Club and had a great love for model trains. Beloved husband of Greta (Frier) Tompkins whom he married in Stratford on September 26, 1953. Loving father of Kathy Trachsel, Rodney Tompkins and wife Christine and Terry Tompkins. Cherished grandfather of Amber and Aaron Trachsel. Dear brother of Kenneth Tompkins and wife Lenore. Also survived by nieces Lezlie and husband Greg Cook and Trudy and husband Jim Watson, cousins in Vancouver and England, sister-in-law Helen and husband Willi Bauer, brothers-in-law Harold and wife Lyle Frier and Fred and wife Arlene Schaller. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Monday May 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Rev. Douglas Reble will officiate. Carmela Tiano

Carmela Tiano of Stratford passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Stratford General Hospital on Saturday, May 31, 2008. She was born in Cosenza, Italy and came to Canada in 1974. Loving wife of Vincenzo (Vince) Tiano. Cherished mother of Josie (Chris) Strahm. Dear grandmother of Christian Ambrose Strahm. Caramela was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Italian Rosary Group and will greatly miss her friends. She was predeceased by her father Vincenzo Cambrea and her mother Francesca Cambrea, as well as four brothers in Italy. She is survived by two sisters, one brother and several nieces and nephews in Italy. Friends and relatives my call at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford on Tuesday June 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Father Dick Bester as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Avondale cemetery Garden Mausoleum. Parish prayers will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of ones choice through the funeral home.
