Armstrong - Wrapped in the comfort of love with her family at her side on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2004. Geraldine “Jeri” Theresa Armstrong of St. Thomas left to be with her Lord. Beloved wife of 57 years to J. Gordon Armstrong. Loving mother of F. Gordon Armstrong, Windsor; Shirley (Rob) vanLeeuwen, St. Thomas and Melissa (Carl) Sault, Hagersville. Loved grandmother of Rob, Michelle, Jesse, Jamie and Alex. Great grandmother of Ella and Eric. Dear sister of Fern (Bruce) Jones, Dorothy (Wilf) Bailey and sister-in-law of Cecile Austin. Jeri was predeceased by her brother Norman Austin. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Jeri was actively involved in many community organizations. She was a member of Eastern Star; Central Star Chapter, St. Thomas, the Alzheimers Society, and First United Church, St. Thomas. Cremation has taken place. A remembrance service will be held in celebration of Jeri’s life on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 11 A.M. at First United Church, St. Thomas. The Rev. Roger Landell officiating. Laidlaw - At Continuing Care, St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Saturday, February 14, 2004. Murray Lorne Laidlaw of Aylmer in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Irene (White) Laidlaw. Dear brother of Keith Laidlaw of Paris, Marion Procunier of Aylmer, and Muriel McCallum and husband Neil of R.R. #1, Iona Station. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and their families. Born in Malahide Township, Ontario on February 17, 1919, son of the late Elgin and Ada (Nesbitt) Laidlaw. Murray was a lifelong resident of the Aylmer area. He was a much loved member of St. Paul’s United Church Faith Family. Years ago the family had a well known Holstein Dairy Herd. In 1958 Murray changed to raising up to 300 beef cattle. In 1979 Murray changed to cash crops. He was a Past Director of the Elgin Holstein Assoc. As demands of the farm decreased he turned his hand to developing a new skill of woodworking making items from trees cut in the farm woodlot. He and others worked on various projects at St. Paul’s United Church. For many years he was a regular blood doner and recently was recognized as a regular driver for the Meals on Wheels program for 15 years. In 1995 Murray and Irene moved to Aylmer where he quickly adjusted to town living and enjoyed a large garden area. Friends may call at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, Aylmer on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Interment , Aylmer cemetery. McGuire - Terrance (Terry) McGuire of Goderich, Ontario on Friday, February 13, 2004, as a result of an accident on January 31st, 2004 in his 51st year. Dearly loved son of Albert and Jean McGuire of St. Thomas. Loving husband of Nancy (Smith) McGuire of Goderich. Devoted father of Miranda and Paris McGuire of Goderich. Caring brother of Kim (Oscar) Costa, Paula (Dave) Lassaline, Tim McGuire and Robert McGuire. Loved uncle of Chris and Jessie Costa, Matthew and Rebecca Lassaline, Tosha Walker, Kent, Bailey and Brett McGuire. Sadly missed by the Hildebrand Family. McIntyre - Jessica “Joan” of Port Stanley, on Sunday, February 15, 2004, at her late residence, in her 85th year. Beloved wife of the late John McIntyre (1995) and dearly loved mother of John and his wife Bev McIntyre of St. Thomas, Malcolm and his wife Karen McIntyre of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., Michele and her husband Rod Young, London and Peggy and her husband Tom Satchell of Port Stanley. Predeceased by a sister Alice Bennett. Sadly missed by 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Joan was born in London, England on January 1, 1920, the daughter of the late Charles Herbert and Alice Marie (Bench) Farrow. She came to Canada in 1946. Berkelmans - Peacefully at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital with his family at his side, on Monday, February 16, 2004. Peter C. Berkelmans of R.R.#4, Aylmer, in his 78th year. Beloved husband of Sien Berkelmans and loving father of Henny and Tony Kustermans of Mt. Brydges, Joanne and Theo Caris of Watford, Wilma and Mike Dupuis of Aylmer, Geraldine and Chris Geerts of Dorchester, Jerry of Aylmer, John and Linda of Dutton, Ron and Marlene, Bill and Lisa, Frank and Sherry, Henry and Gina, Paul and Cindy, Kari and Jody all of Aylmer and Lisa and Chris McQuiggan. Also survived by 42 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sisters Joan, Netty, Fien, Grada and a brother Bill and a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a son Tony, a granddaughter Rachael, brothers Nico, John, Frank and a sister Marie. Born in Vught, The Netherlands on February 26, 1926. Son of the late Gerald and Johanna (Bergmans) Berkelmans. He was a dairy farmer at R.R.#4, Aylmer for most of his life. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, the Aylmer Lawn Bowling Club and the Men’s Bowling League at Cy’s Lanes. In retirement he enjoyed his hobby farm and woodworking. Pritchard - Hilda Jessie Pritchard, a long-time resident of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at the age of 83 years. Having been born in London, England, her family brought her to St. Thomas at the age of 3 months. Hilda attended Balaclava St. Public School and later Arthur Voaden Secondary School. Following graduation, she began her career in banking- initially with the Imperial Bank and later the Toronto- Dominion Bank. She retired in 1980. During the 2nd World War she was a volunteer member of the Canadian Red Cross. Throughout her life she was a member of various clubs and associations, including the Air Cadets and the Alzheimer Society. In 1948, she married Eric Stewart Pritchard. Following Eric’s death in 1991, Hilda remained in St. Thomas with friends and relatives. In 1999 she moved to Nova Scotia. Hilda is survived by her two sons, Stewart Pritchard, Calgary, Alberta and Douglas Pritchard, Economy, Nova Scotia; her daughter-in-law, Pat Pritchard, Calgary; her granddaughters, Candice Pritchard and Kelly Pritchard, Calgary and Katherine “Kate” Pritchard, Oakville. Of the eight siblings in Hilda’s family, she is survived by a sister, Kathleen Barker of St. Thomas. Hilda was predeceased by her brothers, Edward “Ted” (1977), Alf (1995), sisters, Elsie Hodges (1999), Irene Ross (1999), Ivy Palmer (1996) and Ada Brown (2001). Regrettably, she was also predeceased by her other daughter-in-law, Faye (Kenny) Pritchard (1987). Cremation has taken place. Private interment of the cremated remains will be made in Elmdale Memorial Park, St. Thomas. Friends and relatives are invited to a reception to celebrate Hilda’s life on Saturday, May 15th from 2-5 p.m. at the Wayside Inn, Talbotville. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice through the assistance of the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (631-1160).
