HOLMES, Effie Jane "Jennie" - A longtime resident of Acton. In the company of her family, at Meadowcroft Place, Guelph, on Sunday, July 28, 2002, in her 94th year. Jennie was the loved mother of Joan and her husband Bob McEnery of Erin, Jean and her husband Gren Hall of Burlington, Gordon and his wife Sharon of St. Thomas and Bev Laing of Stoney Creek. She was predeceased by her son, Robert in 1964. She is also survived by her step-children, William and his wife Peggy of Guelph, Jack and his wife Ruth of Acton and Helen Near of Acton. She will be sadly missed by 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Jennie was predeceased by her six sisters and four brothers. The family will receive friends at the MacKinnon Family Funeral Home, "Shoemaker Chapel", 55 Mill St. E., Acton on Wednesday, July 31, 2002 from 1 p.m. until the funeral service which will be held in the "Shoemaker Chapel" at 2 p.m. The interment will follow at Fairview cemetery. The family wish to express their appreciation to the Staff of Meadowcroft Place for the care and comfort they gave Jennie during the past 13 years.

MURRAY, William Gerald "Gerry" - Peacefully, at Guelph General Hospital, on Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the age of 87. Gerry was the beloved husband of Lillian (Sharkey) Murray; dear father of Mary and her husband Christopher Caenepeel of California, Teresa and her husband David Bates of Calgary and Patrick and his wife Lancy of Kanata. Survived by four grandchildren, Kathleen and her husband Grant Mills, Sean Caenepeel and his wife Megan, Jessica Caenepeel, Patrick Caenepeel and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Mills. Predeceased by two sisters, Julia Rooney and Ellen Bettridge. Gerry will be missed by many relatives. Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 252 Dublin St.N., Guelph, where the family will receive friends today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A vigil for Gerry will be today (Thursday) at 3 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 2, 2002 at St. Joseph's Church, Guelph at 10 a.m. Interment at Marymount cemetery , Guelph. As expressions of sympathy, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

CALLANDER, Ellen A. - At Guelph General Hospital, on Monday, July 29, 2002. Ellen A. Callander at the age of 96 years. She was a graduate of the Toronto Bible College, Hamilton General Hospital and served as a Missionary in Brazil for 40 years with the Gospel Missionary Union. Sadly missed by her nieces, Margaret Muller and Jean Tossell and her husband William, all of Guelph. Much loved aunt of several nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Sarah Ann (Drummond) Callander and several brothers and sisters. Friends called at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL - McIntyre and Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph (from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday). Service at the Gilchrist Chapel on Wednesday, July 31, 2002 (today) at 1:30 p.m. with The Rev. Mary Hunt officiating. Interment Woodlawn cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Elliott Home Memorial Fund or the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan would be appreciated.

PRIOR, Enid (nee Hammerton) - Of Guelph (formerly of Mississauga and Etobicoke), passed away, peacefully at her home, Sunday, June 16, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dearly beloved wife of Burt Prior. Dear mother of Judy (Jim) Gibson, Cathy (Mike) Martin, Nancy (Brian) Feagan, Barbara (Peter) Ross, Debbie (Evan) Russell and Dianne (Barry) Bracken. Cherished grandmother (Mumma) of Robin, Dan, Greg, Tom, Claire, Sean, Laurie, Stephanie, Linda, Karen, Andrew and Colin. Much loved sister of Jean (Harry) Langford. Predeceased by a sister, Georgia and husband Jack Auston. Aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, today, (Tuesday, 7-9 p.m.) and for one hour prior to the service. Memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 3 p.m. (Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre). Cremation and interment at Woodlawn cemetery , Guelph. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Down Syndrome Association, 1580 Yonge St., Suite 3D, Toronto, Ont. M4T 1Z8 or a charity of choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Enid Prior in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph, Arboretum. Dedication service Sunday, September 22, 2002, at 2:30 p.m.

EAGLES, Jean Vance, nee Watson - (Veteran of the Air Force Second World War, Retired RN St. Josephs Hospital Hamilton, Member of Rebekah Lodge No. 38 Hamilton). Peacefully, at Hamilton General Hospital, on Monday, June 17, 2002. Jean, of Hamilton, in her 78th year. Beloved wife of the late Clarence Eagles (January 2002). Loving mother of Ray Eagles and Ernestine of Hamilton, Glen Eagles and Debbie of Caistor Centre and Scott Eagles of Gravenhurst. Cherished grandmother of Danielle; dear sister of Ross Watson and Alice McMahon. Resting at the Butcher Family Funeral Home, 5399 Main Street, South, Erin, where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Davison officiating. Cremation to follow. Visitation on Saturday one hour prior to service time. If desired, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

ULLMAN, Maureen Christine - At Toronto General Hospital, on Sunday, June 16, 2002. Maureen C. (Caisse) Ullman, in her 60th year. Beloved wife of the late Robert Ullman (1993). Loved mother of Sarina and her fiance James Smith of Cambridge; dear sister of Vicky and her husband Mike Ledger of Barrie and Donald Caisse and his wife Sharon of Toronto. HEWITT, Edward - It is with regret, that Ed's family informs of his passing, on Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at the age of 71 years. Loving husband and best friend to Hazel (Nancy) Hewitt for 49 years. Beloved father of Lindsay and his wife Elizabeth and Peter and his wife Anne-Marie; devoted grandfather of Kristopher, Kelsey, Aaron and Mark. Ed is survived by one brother, Jim in Ireland; mother-in-law, Sadie Clarke; sister-in-law, May and her husband Billy Gordon of Belfast, Ireland; sister-in-law, Dorothy and her husband Sam Reid of Cardiff, Wales. He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, John and Sarah; five brothers and one sister. Ed retired from the Guelph Mercury in 1995 after 30 years of service. Funeral service was held at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, 743-8900 on Saturday, March 30, 2002 followed by cremation. Memorial donations for Ed may be made to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre by calling the funeral home.

MORRIS, Isobel Harriett - At Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus, Ontario, on Monday, June 10, 2002, Isobel Harriett Morris, beloved wife for 52 years of Sidney Gilbert Morris. Eldest of three daughters born to the late John Mylne and the late Lorena Ann Condie, former lifelong residents of Smith Falls, Ontario. Loving mother of Ronald (Pearl) of Thompson, Manitoba, Charlene (Wayne Baldo) of Montreal, Wendy (Edward Biddles) of Mississauga and Kenneth, also of Mississauga; cherished grandmother of Bill, Nancy, Candice and Stephanie. Loved sister of Eileen (Stanley Porter) of Smith Falls and the late Marion Fawcett formerly of Georgetown, Ontario. Dear sister-in-law of Phyllis Morris of Smith Falls, the late George and Belle Morris formerly of Montreal and the late Kathleen Lester of Ottawa. Loving aunt of several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her many close friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 280 St. David St. N., Fergus, on Friday, June 14, 2002 from 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service in the chapel at 2 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at Hillcrest cemetery , Smith Falls, Ontario on Monday, June 17, 2002 at 1 p.m. In memory of Isobel, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated and may be obtained by contacting the funeral home at 519-843-3100.

EDWARDS, Alan Roy - Peacefully and with dignity, at home, in his beloved Bala, Muskoka on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, age 49. Son of the late Kenneth H. Edwards. Alan is sadly missed by his wife Ellen (nee Alexander) and her father Bob; his mother, Jane Edwards; his sisters, Susan (James) MacLachlan, Nancy Edwards and brothers, Michael (Rosemary), Chris (Marsha) and Stephen (Aunie) Edwards. Loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews. In recognition of Alan's kind heart and generous spirit, donations may be made to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital for the Community oncology services or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Thanks to Community Care Access for their support and to Hospice Muskoka for being there. Beloved husband of the late Rogena Thompson and the late Beatrice (Howsdon) Daley. Loved father of William (Valerie) Bard of Guelph, Daniel (Kay) Bard of British Columbia, Susan Bard of Guelph and Stephen (Jeanette) Bard of Wasaga Beach; loving grandfather of eight; great-grandfather of six; dear step-father of Anne Martin, Deb McPherson, Cindy McEachern and John Daley. Predeceased by brothers, Fred and Frank and sisters, Eva Davies and Nellie Bard. Mr. Bard sang in St. George's and St. James Anglican Church Choirs and the Guelph Minstrel Show. LARSON, Dennis H. - Suddenly, at his home, on Sunday, July 14, 2002, aged 56 years. Dennis was a longtime employee of Nexans (Canada Wire) for 36 years.Sadly missed by his wife, Maria of 28 years. MACPHERSON, Mildred Anne "Tootie" - Passed away, at Guelph General Hospital, on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002. Mildred Anne "Tootie" (nee Hohenadel), in her 59th year, was the beloved wife of Kenneth G. Macpherson of Puslinch. She was the dear mother of James (Jamie) Macpherson and his wife Mia of Waterloo and Gregory Macpherson and Kevin Macpherson, both of Puslinch. Tootie was the loving daughter of Anne (nee Fach) Hohenadel of Guelph and the late Jack Hohenadel. She was the dear sister of Jack Hohenadel and his wife Carole of Fordwich, Joe Hohenadel and his wife Mary Ann, Paul Hohenadel and his wife Mary Helen, all of Puslinch, Doreen McRitchie and her husband Don of Burlington and Pauline Curtis and her husband Bob of Guelph. Tootie was an inspiring coach, teacher and friend for many Canadian children. Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home and Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph, where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 6 (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Vigil for Tootie will be held at the funeral home this evening (Tuesday) at 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. John's Church, 45 Victoria Rd., Guelph, on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at 10 a.m. Cremation. Interment of Ashes, Crown cemetery , Puslinch. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
