McILVENA, Laurie Lee - After a courageous battle with cancer, passed away, Christmas morning in hospital in Moncton, N.B. Laurie Lee worked as a Lieutenant at the Guelph Correctional Centre and moved to her hometown, Amherst, N.S. in May 2001. A memorial service will be held in Guelph (date yet to be determined). BYRNE, Sister Dorothy IBVM - It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Sister Dorothy, at Loretto Abbey Infirmary, Toronto, on Monday evening, January 6, 2003. Sister of Mary Heffernan of Guelph and aunt of Joanne and Patrick of Guelph and Barbara of Durham. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Mabel Byrne of Toronto. Sister Dorothy was an accomplished pianist, having played at Massey Hall. She taught piano for many decades and was the organist at the Abbey, playing at all masses and celebrations. For the last year, Sister Dorothy suffered from Lou Gehrig's Disease but passed away peacefully with family and many Loretto sisters at her side. Sister celebrated 50 years in the convent on August 5, 2001.
