DEVLIN, Frederick (Fred) Joseph - Age 73, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, passed away, peacefully, at home on Jan. 10, 2003. Surviving are spouse, Kathleen; sons, John and Andrew; daughter, Kim; grandchildren, Sean, Aaron and Allison; brothers, Omer and Lloyd and sisters, Louise, Elvia and Ethel. He was predeceased by his father, Burt; mother, Mathilde and brother, Leonard. Born in North Battleford, Sask., Fred moved with his parents and siblings to Chilliwack, B.C. in 1944. Spending his teenage years in Chilliwack, Fred completed high school in 1947 and subsequently joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a radio repairman. His 27 years of naval service were highlighted by his commissioning from the ranks, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander, serving on both Canadian coasts and at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa and completing an exchange posting with the Royal Navy. In 1975 Fred retired from military service and became a french immersion teacher with the Halifax School Board, remaining there until retirement in 1988. In 2000/01, while convalescing from an illness, he resided in Guelph with son, John; daughter-in-law. Nonita and grandson, Sean. The Guelph Out-and-About Program was a highlight for him during his stay in this community. Tireless and dedicated to the betterment of others, Fred was a respected community volunteer for a variety of organizations; dictated talking books for the CNIB; was active in the Liberal Party, the Nova Scotia Teacher's Union and Alliance Francais and generously contributed to many charities. His deep love of family and sport were cornerstones to his active and vibrant life and he is fondly remembered as a patriotic, kind-hearted and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humour. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date in Dartmouth, N.S. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the QE11 Hospital Foundation, 1278 Tower Road, Bethune Building, Halifax, N.S. B3H 2Y9. GOLIAN, Paul Rudolph - Died in Fergus, on Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at the age of 78. Paul was the beloved husband for 49 years of wife, Olga (Bedek) Golian. He was the loved father of Thomas of Guelph and is survived by his sister, Eva Besterczey; his nephew, Leslie; his nieces, Eva and Judith, all of Hungary. Mr. Golian was born on February 9, 1924 in Hungary and came to Canada in 1951 where he was a resident of Welland, Hagersville and for the past 20 years, Belwood. He was the Chief Medical Technologist at St. Joseph's Hospital, Guelph from 1977-1989. BULEGA, Mary (Maria) (Olynick) - passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, after a lengthy illness, at Guelph General Hospital, on Sunday, November 10, 2002. Mary (Olynick) Bulega, in her 84th year, was the beloved wife, for 51 years, of the late William Bulega. Survived and greatly missed by her daughter, Irene Van Doorn of Guelph and her sister, Anne Welchinski. Predeceased by her sons, Dennis and Robert. PETERS, The Rev. George N. - Passed away, January 8, 2003, at Royal Inland Hospital, with his wife Sheila, Tim and Della at his side.He was born February 21, 1930 in Winnipeg, Man. As a young child, he and his family moved to St. Catherines, Ont. After graduation, he worked for the Toronto Dominion Bank for several years. In 1963, he went to McMaster University in Hamilton and from there to Knox College in Toronto. George was ordained June 19, 1968 in Chalmer's Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ontario. He was assigned to a two-point charge in Fort MacLeod and Jumbo Valley, Alberta. After four years, he accepted a call from St. Andrew's Presbyterian here in Kamloops where he was the minister from May of 1972 until his retirement on August 31, 1996. George was very active in his community. From the early 1970's for some 18 years, he hosted "Come Celebrate With Us" on Cable 10 Television. He was a longstanding member of the Kamloops Kiwanis Club, the Kamloops Community Y and the "Plura" Society.He is survived by his wife Sheila; son, Timothy and daughter-in-law, Della. Also surviving are his sister, Marlene Bergshoeff and Arie of Hamilton, Ont., Jim and Helen Peters of Burlington, Ont., John and Rose Peters of Perry Sound, Ont., Abe and Hackey Peters of Guelph, Ont.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joan and Cec Bat, Eleanor and Ab Cresmasco and Pat Reilly, all of Guelph, Ont. and Ronald and Pat Evans of Kelowna.The Rev. Harold Wiest, the Rev. Joseph MacDonald and the Rev. Maria Bendo (nee Favero) in her 84th year, was the beloved wife of the late Carlo Bendo (March 10, 1989).
