Sumner Douglas Doug George
After a brief illness at the Wiarton Hospital on Thursday November 7th, 2002. He will be missed by all who knew him and will be lovingly remembered by his companion Sally Adams, son Brian and his wife Linda, daughter Joan, grandaughters Janet and Kerri-Anne, brother Syd, and friends Sheila, Ronda, Ron, and Betty. Born in Winnipeg, he raised his family there and in Calgary and Ottawa while working for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and Revenue Canada. An accountant by profession, he was a consciencious and hard working man who greatly enjoyed his career, finally retiring in 1985. During the Second World War he enlisted with the RCAF in 1941 and was stationed in Gimli, Prince Rupert, Port Hardy, Montreal, and Toronto. After retiring Doug and Sally spent winters in Arizona and summers in Wiarton. Although retired he remained active, visiting with his many friends and family. He was active in the Royal Canadian Legion, President of the Royal Palms Park Assoc. (Phonix) and Treasurer of the Mallory Beach Ratepayers Assoc. Doug loved the peaceful rural atmosphere of living on Colpoy's Bay and wanted Colpoy's Bay cemetery to be his final resting place. He was a fine man, a loving father and a stalwart friend. The funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday November 9th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jawn Kolohon officiating. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 208, Wiarton will hold a service at the funeral home on Friday evening at 6:45 PM. Wardrop Ethel Isabelle
With deep sorrow the family of Ethel Isabelle Wardrop (Hatt) announce the passing of their wonderful mother on October 2, 2002. Beloved wife of the late Charles Wardrop (1994). Dear mother of Betty Flynn and her husband William of Toronto, Marjorie Wardop, Mary Tyrrell and her husband Robert, Helen Ryan and her husband Fred and Nancy Blanchard and her husband Maurice, all of London. Loving grandmother of Greg, Gary and Karen Flynn, Julie Squire, Michael and Kathryn Tyrrell, Jennifer Crossen, Sarah and David Ryan and Phillippe and Marc Blanchard. Proud great-grandmother of Kevin, Rebecca, Matthew, Kayla, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Jacob and Ryan. Ethel was predeceased by each of her 10 siblings and by her infant daughter Yvonne. Suddenly at the Owen Sound Hospital on Monday December 2, 2002. Kenny West of Hepworth in his 43rd year. Beloved husband and best friend of Jean (Both) West. Bacon Maurice Joseph Shorty
At his home in Cameron Lake on January 30, 2003. Shorty Bacon in his 60th year. Shorty will be missed by his beloved wife Anna and his children: Claudette McKay and her husband John of Ipperwash and Richard of Port Franks. He was the proud Grampa of Amanda Lynn and Samantha McKay and Alex and Courtney Bacon. Shorty is survived by his brother Dr. Robert Bacon of Toronto and his sisters; Therese McCrae and Bridgitte Lanteigne (Alphonse) of Sarnia, Florence Flannegan of Dalhousie, N.B., Evelyn Albert and Rita Lavoie of Campbellton, N.B. Bruin Beatrice
The Bruce was diminished on Saturday January 11, 2003 with the passing of Beatrice Elizabeth Bruin, who imparted her passion for piano and lifelong learning to countless students; who sang at friends' and acquaintances' weddings; who grew glorious gardens for all to delight in; who cared for cats abandoned by others; who relished adventure at home and abroad; and who loved her husband, Harold, with all the depth and breadth of her soul. Beatrice, born in Bowmanville in 1916, grew up in Owen Sound and later moved to Lions Head with Harold when they married in 1942. Together, they quickly became an integral part of the community. She was a teacher of many subjects including Latin and music, and later a librarian at Lions Head School for 38 years. Upon her retirement in 1980, Beatrice continued to enrich lives by offering vocal and piano lessons. Beatrice was predeceased by her parents, Archie and Elizabeth Hayward and her twin brothers Art and Bill. She is survived by Harold and by one sibling, June and her husband Lewis McDonald of Waterloo, and by many treasured family members and dear friends. The family will receive friends at the Davidson Chapel, 71 Main Street, Lions Head on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The service to honour and celebrate the life of Beatrice will be held at Christ Church Anglican, Lions Head on Thursday January 16th at 1:30PM with Rev. Jawn Kolohan officiating. Passed suddenly and peacefully, as was his prayer, at the Wiarton Hospital on Tuesday, March 25th, 2003. Dominik will be missed by his devoted wife Margaret Bardos of Wiarton and by his loving daughter Margaret of Hamilton. Peacefully at Gateway Haven on Sunday April 6, 2003. Mary (Collins) Barnard of Wiarton in her 84th year. Beloved wife of the Late Archibald Barnard. Sister in Law of Dorothy Collins of Wiarton. Aunt of Sharon (Walter) Eibisburger of Wiarton; Rosemary Barnard and Yvonne Ellis both of Toronto. Dear friend of Don and Thelma Reidy. Predeceased by two brothers Lewis and R.J. Jim Collins. Also survived by several great nieces and nephews. Mary was a Bell Canada operator for forty five years, belonged to the Bell Pioneers Seniors Club, a life long and active member of Frank Street Baptist Church, and was a volunteer at the Wiarton Hospital. Mary loved her flowers, to bake and was a talented musician, painter and photographer. Many people will remember Mary's participation in the agricultural fairs in both Wiarton and Owen Sound. Peacefully at her home in Tobermory on Monday March 17, 2003, in her 48th year. Beloved wife of Rick Salen and loving mother of Griffin. Survived by her sisters Vicki of Calgary, Pam of Toronto, and brother Gary of Sudbury. Also survived by nephews Peter and Mathew. Predeceased by her father Ralph and mother Miriam of Sudbury.
