Cote Beverley Winnifred
Peacefully at the Toronto Western Hospital on Friday April 2nd, 2004. Beverley Cote of Toronto in her 66th year. Dear mother of Jerry Lyn (Vern) Harpur; Carolyn; Elaine; and Philip all of Toronto. Special grandmother of Carly, Cotee, Raimy and Jacqueline. Sister of Ellen (Sam) Ohara, Karen, Sonny, Kenny, Dana, and Gail. Predeceased by one son Gary and one sister Phyllis. The family will receive friends at the George Funeral Home 430 Mary Street, Wiarton on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted from the Cape Croker United Church on Wednesday April 7th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Maggie McLeod officiating. Interment , Jones cemetery , Cape Croker. Donations to the family would be appreciated.

Dobson Elsie
Peacefully at Gateway Haven Nursing Home, Wiarton on Monday April 5th, 2004. Elsie (Moorehouse) Dobson of Wiarton in her 81st year. Beloved wife of Maurice Dobson. Loving mother of Allen and his wife Karen of Waterloo; and James and his wife Kellie of Kitchener. Special grandma of Megen, Mandy, Jessica, Troy, and Jillian. Sister of Alma Kingdon of Hamilton, Marjorie Dry of Calgary, Alberta, Edna (Fred) Bracy of Owen Sound, Gladys (Ed) Clay of Cayuga, and Frank (Myrtle) Moorehouse of Owen Sound. Predeceased by two sisters Phyllis McArthur, Audrey Kennedy and two brothers Harry and Ted. The family will receive friends at the Gateway Haven Chapel, 671 Frank Street, Wiarton on Saturday April 10th for a funeral service at 2:00 PM with visiting one hour prior to service. Lieutenant Mary Millar officiating. Spring interment, Oxenden cemetery. Donations to Friends of Gateway, the Arthritic Society or the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the George Funeral Home, Wiarton.

Hatt Gertrude Jane Gertie
Peacefully at Georgian Heights Long Term Care Residence in Owen Sound on Thursday May 27th, 2004. Gertie (McCutcheon) Hatt of Lion's Head in her 99th year. Wife of the late Charles Hatt. Dear mother of June and her husband Rev. Murray Barnet of Simcoe; and Elaine Ruhl of Owen Sound. Special grandmother of Joanne (Randy) Pond, Don (Pam) Barnet, Shawn (Julie) Ruhl, Marci Ruhl, Todd (Hali) Ruhl and ten great grandchildren. Also survived by one sister Vera Tyndall of Toronto, one sister-in-law Christena McCutcheon of Lion's Head, and one brother-in-law Les Hatt of Pike Bay. Predeceased by one son-in-law Ken Ruhl, two sisters Bertha Bray and Clara Petter, and two brothers Bob McCutcheon and Earlby McCutcheon. The family will receive friends at the Davidson Chapel, 71 Main Street, Lion's Head on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted from Central United Church Main Street, Lion's Head on Monday May 31st. 2004 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Audrey Brown officiating. Interment , Eastnor cemetery , Lion's Head. Donations to Central United Church or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Hopkins Verna Elizabeth
Passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at the Golden Dawn Nursing Home, Lion's Head on Monday April 19, 2004. Verna (Moore) Hopkins of Tobermory in her 87th year. Dear mum of Bill and his wife Sharon, of Picton, and Susan and her husband Dale Lyons, of Tobermory. Verna will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Susan Hopkins of South Korea, Sara Beth Hopkins of Picton, Lisa (Chris) Weatherhead of Burlington, Curtis (Melissa) Lyons of Tobermory; and by her great-grandchildren Joshua David Lyons, Ayla Elizabeth Lyons and Emma Grace Weatherhead. Forever in the hearts of her sister Agnes 'Dolly' Hardman, of Cambridge, and dear friend Gladys Morris, of Tobermory. Waiting to greet Verna in heaven are her husband, Bud Hopkins (1963), grandson, David Hopkins and sister-in-law, Iola McIvor. A tireless community worker, 50 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxillary Branch #290 and owner of Verna's Gift Shop since 1945; she will be sadly missed. The family will receive friends at the Tobermory United Church on Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. The funeral celebration will be conducted at the church on Thursday April 22nd at 10:00 AM with Rev. Susan Shantz officiating. Interment Dunk's Bay cemetery , Tobermory. The Royal Canadian Legion Auxillary Branch #290 will hold a service at the church on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM. Verna's family does not have the words to express their gratitude to the kind staff of The Golden Dawn Nursing Home. In recognition of the loving care provided to Verna, and her family, memorial donations to the Golden Dawn Nursing Home or the charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the George Funeral Home, Wiarton.

Peacefully at home on Saturday May 1, 2004. Minerva (Hopkins) Lees of Tobermory in her 78th year. Beloved wife of Glen Lees. Dear mother of Wendy Cockerline and her husband
Glenn of Brandon, Manitoba; Terry Carroll of Innisfill, Alberta; Alison Palleschi and her husband Peter of Brampton; Don and his wife Lori of London and Kevin and his wife Debra of Edmonton, Alberta. Sister of Kaye Lyons and Barney ( Madelyn) Hopkins all of Tobermory. Cherished grandmother of ten grandchildren Michael, Christina, Paige, Thomas, Sarah, Blake, Christopher, Jennifer, Scott and Tabitha. Minerva is predeceased by her parents Clara (Belrose) and Clifford (Barney) Hopkins and two brothers Harry and Carl Hopkins. The family will receive friends at the Tobermory United Church 9 Brook Street, Tobermory on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A celebration of Minerva's life will be conducted at the Tobermory United Church on Tuesday May 4th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Susan Shantz officiating. Cremation has taken place. Interment of cremated remains at Dunk's Bay cemetery , Tobermory. Donations to the Tobermory United Church or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the George Funeral Home, Wiarton.

Steip John Alexander
Suddenly at home on Wednesday April 28th, 2004. John Steip of Wiarton in his 79th year. Beloved husband of the Late Hilda (Jackson) Steip. Dear brother of Sally Smith of Detroit. Brother-in-law of Lloyd and his wife Bobbie Jackson of Colpoy's Bay and Florence Jackson of Wiarton. Also survived by nieces and nephews Gregory (Glenda) Jackson; Kathy (Roger) Grose; Rusty (Doris) Jackson; Laurie (Brad) Clark; Murray (Mary Jo) Ceaser; Gary (Irma) Gray; Frank (Patricia) Steip and several great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by four sisters Lorene Biles, Betty Gray, Frances Jones, Chris Ceaser, and one brother Donald Steip. The family will receive friends at the George Funeral Home, 430 Mary Street, Wiarton on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday May 1st at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ed Laksmanis officiating. Interment Bayview cemetery , Wiarton. Donations to the Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen's Association, Wiarton or the Lung Association would be appreciated by the family. Cedar Lodge #396 A.F. & A.M. will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Friday evening at 6:45 PM.

Taylor Douglas John
Peacefully at his home R.R.# 3 Flesherton on Friday April 16, 2004. Douglas Taylor in his 59th year. Dear son of Mildred (Taylor) McGregor and the Late John Wesley Taylor (1976). Loved by his sister Mary Elizabeth and her husband Ronald Moore and two nieces Carolyn and Alison all of Alliston. Survived by three step brothers David, Robert and Stephen McGregor and their families. Predeceased by his step father Kenneth McGregor (1998) and Step brother Allan McGregor (2003). The funeral service will be conducted at the George Funeral Home, 430 Mary Street, Wiarton on Tuesday April 20th at 2:00 PM with visitation from 12:30 until time of service. Rev. Ed Laksmanis officiating. Interment Balsam Grove cemetery , Oliphant. If desired donations to the South- East Grey Support Services, Flesherton or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Tayles Vernice A
Peacefully at the Wiarton Hospital on Tuesday March 2, 2004. Vernice (McIntyre) Tayles of Wiarton in her 76th year. Beloved wife of the Late Wilbert N. Tayles. Dear and closest friend of Clifford A Colton of Wiarton. Loving mother of Gilbert and his wife Karen of Kingston and James of London. Cherished grandmother of Bill, Shannon, Kristi, Erin, Laura, Lisa, Adam & Kelly; delighted great-grandmother of Joshua. Sister of Dolly McIntyre of Ottawa and Jack McIntyre of Florida. Sadly predeceased by son Norman and grandson Jason. Vernice retired from Litton Systems Canada in 1989 and moved from Woodbridge to Wiarton. She was known for her generosity, integrity and commitment to her family. Please join Vernice's family to share memories at a memorial celebration to be held at the George Funeral Home, 430 Mary Street, Wiarton on Friday, March 5th at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to service. Father Steve LaCroix officiating. Cremation has taken place. Interment , with her husband Bill, at Glendale Gardens cemetery , Toronto. Heartfelt appreciation to Dr. John Van Dorp and the staff of the Wiarton Hospital for the gentle care extended to Vernice and her family. Rodgers: Linnea Christine
Sadly, stillborn on March 22, 2004. Linnea is the precious daughter of Esther (Wilson) & Robert Rodgers of R.R. # 1 Mar, and little sister of Levi. She will be held forever in the hearts of her grandparents, Jim & Shirley Rodgers of Mar, and Alvin & Anita Wilson of Ravenna. Sharing in the sorrow are Linnea's Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Linnea's funeral service will be held at the Bethel Missionary Church, 18 Ferndale Road, Lion's Head on Saturday April 10th at 11:00 AM. Interment Eastnor cemetery , Lion's Head. Arrangements in the care of the George Funeral Home, Wiarton.

Spears: Clarence Orville
After a life well lived, and with his girls by his side, at Gateway Haven Nursing Home on Friday March 12th, 2004. Clarence Spears, of Wiarton, in his 93rd year. Dear husband of the late Mary (Caudle) Spears. Loved and loving father of Kenneth Spears, and his wife Vangie, of Wingham, Ruth Howatt, and her husband Carman, of Clinton, Wilma Vincent, and her husband Clare, of Londesborough, Eileen Greidanus, and her husband Leo of Seaforth, and Helen Burley, and her husband John, of Wiarton. Adored grandfather of ten grandchildren, and special Popa-Great to eleven great-grandchildren. Clarence is survived by his brother Arnold (Joan) Spears, of Dowling, and special family friend, Edie Spears, of Vancouver. Uncle Clarence will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, Percy and Stan, and sister, Eileen. Clarence's family will receive friends at the George Funeral Home, 430 Mary Street, Wiarton on Sunday March 14th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The Funeral Celebration will be held at St. John's United Church, Wiarton on Monday, March 15th at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Ed Laksmanis officiating. Spring Interment , Dunk's Bay cemetery , Tobermory. Special thanks to the staff of Gateway Haven for their kind care of Clarence, and his family. Memorial donations to the Sick Children's Hospital Foundation, St. John's United Church or Gateway Haven would be appreciated.

Thompson Douglas Owen
Suddenly at his home in Wiarton on Saturday May 29th, 2004. Doug Thompson of Wiarton and formerly of Colpoy's Bay in his 73rd year. Loving husband of Marian (Brown) Thompson. Dear father of Bob and his wife Trish; and Ann all of St. Catherines. Father-in-law of Joyce Thompson of Tobermory. Dear Puppa of Eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Son-in-law of Hannah Brown of Wiarton. Brother of Alford (Ruth) Thompson of Tobermory, Betty (Don) Hill of Bancroft, and Sylvia (Dennis) Miller of Oshawa. Brother-in-law of Linda Forbes (Bob Hopps) of Colpoy's Bay. Special friend of Roberta and Doug Ryan, Marg and Ted McClure, Carol and Jim Krueger and Eileen and Monty Bennett. Predeceased by two sons Jim in 2000 and Ron in 1996. At Doug's request cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private interment service at Colpoy's Bay cemetery at a later date. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family and may be made through the George Funeral Home, Wiarton.
