Lorne Stanley Stewart - 06/21/2003
On Saturday June 21, 2003, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer at age 49. Lorne is survived by his two children Angela and Justin; their mother Deborah; loving wife Beverley; stepson Alex. Also survived by his father Jack (Jane); sister Joanne and her family; and other family and many friends. Lorne was predeceased by his mother, Lorna (nee Wurch). Lorne was born in Flin Flon Manitoba. At 17 he joined the Canadian Navy and proudly served for 25 years in Halifax, NS, Aldergrove BC, and Ottawa, in addition to many years at sea. He was employed by the Department of National Defense at the time of his death. Lorne was president of the Ottawa Chapter of the OPFA (One Parent Family Association) for two years and made many wonderful friends through the organization. Lorne's gentle way and keen sense of humour was loved and will be missed by all. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 1200 Ogilvie Road at the Aviation Parkway, on Monday June 23 from 6 to 9pm. Betty Williamson, 87, an accomplished artist, author, photographer, teacher, fashion illustrator, and gardener, died on Thursday, June 26, 2003. Betty was born in Ottawa, attended Ottawa University, and the Ontario College of Arts. In 2002, Lee Valley published her first book Reflections on the Fungaloids, which highlights her talent as an artist and author. Over the years, many of her photographs have been published in numerous magazines and books, and her home and garden have been featured in "City and Country Homes". Prior to her career as an art teacher at Canterbury High School, she won local and international awards for her fashion illustrations as the art director for Murphy-Gamble Ltd. At the time of her death, she was working on two more books - one on wild orchids and one on cat stories. A beloved friend and mentor, Betty will be missed by all who knew her. She will be fondly remembered by her sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Peter Cain; her brother, Ian Williamson; her nephew, Peter Cain; her niece, Janice Bosley; and her niece and nephew-in-law, Mary Cain and Terry Wedge. As per her request, there will be no formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice that supports nature or wildlife preservation.

He was a member of the late Royal Canadian Dragoons and served with IV Princess Louise Dragoon Guards during WWII. Before his retirement from the Carleton Board of Education in 1978 he was Head of Guidance at Merivale High School, he was also a member of Council at Manotick United Church, a Youth Education Officer and the long-time Secretary of Branch 314 Royal Canadian Legion and founder and Past-President of Rideau Seniors.
