The Descaries-Gour family with sadness announce the death of Laura Gour (nee Descaries), on February 11, 2004. Laura Descaries was born at Ottawa in 1912; she was the daughter of the late Marie-Laure Groulx and the late Léopold Descaries; and sister of Liliane arid the late Annette and the late Ubald. In 1934 she married Edmond Gour, Dad, who passed away In 1989. Mother of Roland, Lucien, Claire, Françoise (Jacques Bernard Lagroix), Paulette (Richard Proulx) and mother-in-law of Charlotte Gour. Cherished grandmother of André Lacasse (Daniele Racine) Nathalie Skof; Marc Andrews (Anne-Marie Beaulieu); Roch arid Roxanne Gour (Antoine Bernier); Josée Lagroix-Scott (Steve Scott); Chantale Lagroix- L'Heureux (Daniel L'Heureux) Stéphane Proulx (Nancy Rogg) and Pascal Proulx. Loving great-grandmother of Nicole and Matthias Skof; Martin and Justin Lacasse; Eric, Laura and Channelle Andrews; Michelle and Vanessa Scott; Dominic L'Heureux; Danielle and Anick Bernjer; and soon-to-be born Leah Rogg-Proulx. Laura was a member of L'Association des Oblats de Marie, and her passion was genealogy research. In Ottawa at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre on Monday, February 9, 2004 at the age of 84. Eleanor was the youngest child of the late Reverend Charles and Mary Youngson Kidd of Gananoque, Ontario. Sister of Catharine Sparrow, the late Paul J.G. Kidd and the late Charles S. Kidd. Aunt of Virginia Cooper and Ruth White: Douglas and Paul Bowie: Charles (Cap), Paul Katie Kidd. Great Aunt of Mary Catherine Hanson and John Gates; Mary Beth Allard, Amy and Emily White: Alison Bowie; David, James and Laura Bowie; Kevin and Allison Kidd. Great Grand Aunt of Madilyn and Caitlyn Gates. A graduate of Queens University (Arts '43), Eleanor worked for the Federal Government as an Administrative Officer for the Defence Research Board. After retirement, summers were spent at her cherished cottage on the St. Lawrence in Gananoque. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful friends, neighbors and caregivers who have helped Eleanor both in Gananoque and Ottawa during her long illness. Special thanks to the Ottawa Hospital, the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre and the Community Nursing Registry. According to Eleanor's wishes, her ashes will be interred in a graveside service in Gananoque in the spring. passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2004 at the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital. Loving father to his daughter Tracey, his son Michael and daughter in law Rosemary. Allan will be missed by his very dear and special friend Cecile Laplante, his brothers Peter and Ross, sister Lynn, and godson David. Allan's work in the Pharmaceutical industry and his countless volunteer hours on many community Boards in Ottawa was a sign of his caring and love for people. Allan enjoyed life to the fullest; especially his walks in the Gatineau Hills. He will be fondly remembered by his many friends, extended family and business associates. A celebration of Thanksgiving and remembrance followed by a reception will be held on Tuesday, February 17th, 4:30pm, at the Church of the Ascension, 253 Echo Drive, Ottawa. Suddenly on February 8, 2004 in his 83rd year. Dearly beloved husband of Joyce (nee Hamlet) for 56 years, loving father of John and Mary Joy, father-in-law of Sandra (DeAthe) and Brian B. Murphy. Much loved by his granddaughter Erin Murphy and grandson Peter B. Murphy. Predeceased by his parents John and Emmie May Manger. John was born in England, educated at Norwich School and served his country in the Royal Engineers between 1939 and 1946 attaining the rank of Major and seeing action in Normandy, Walcheren and the crossing of the Rhine. He came to Canada in 1949 for Cadbury Bros. of Bourneville and settled in Montréal, retiring in 1978 as a Director of the Canadian Company. His community interests included more than 30 years non-uniformed volunteer work for Scouts Canada for which he was awarded the Bar To The Silver Acorn and, the Canadian Bobsleigh and Luge Association and the Canadian Ski Association for which he was Executive Director. Friends may attend the funeral service at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Friday, February 13 at 3:00 pm. Reception to follow. She is survived by all three of her beloved siblings: Jacqueline Carington Smith, Halifax; Lucille Barrow, Ottawa; Philip Dumaresq (Leila), Halifax; and by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four children: Brian Murphy (Martha Scott), Christine Stirling (John), Gavin Murphy (Catherine), and James Robertson (Fateema Sayani), and by her six grandchildren: Andrew, Alison, and David Stirling; and James, William, and Ian Murphy. Antoinette was predeceased by both her husbands: Dr. Richard Joseph Francis Murphy (28 February 1954); and C. Douglas Robertson (5 August 2002) who cared for her at home for many years. At our mother's request her funeral service will be private.
