WALSH - Suddenly, on Friday, February 13, 2004. AL “KNOBBIE” WALSH, of Petrolia. Born in 1926 inGrand Falls, Newfoundland, Al served his country as a paratrooper during World War 2 with the Nova Scotia Highlanders and with the Royal Canadian Regiment during the Korean conflict. Al was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Canadian Corp. Al had worked for Canada Bread, Daifo Construction and had owned Oxford Variety in London. He resided at R.R.#1, Brigden from 1978 to 1998, where he worked at C.I.L., Sarnia Jail and with his wife Marie, operated Marie’s Restaurant on Highway 80 in Brigden. Beloved husband of 44 years of Marie (nee Lester). Predeceased by his parents, Dennis and Ellen Walsh, one sister and three brothers, all in Newfoundland. Also survived by 32 nieces and nephews. Al will be sadly missed by family and friends, especially Roufus, Buttons, Blackie. Mrs. Thelma Lucille Fortune, 88 years, formerly of Mississauga and Jackson, Mississippi Beloved wife of the late James Herman Fortune and the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Tom H. Christopher of Jackson Mississippi. She is survived by Mr. Fortune’s son Bobby M. Fortune of Gainesville, Georgia and his daughter Martha Pugh and her husband Rev. James E. Pugh of Flomaton. Alabama. Mrs. Fortune served as secretary of Cooksville United Church and secretary-treasurer of the Auxiliary of the Sheridan Villa Nursing Home. She later served her Lord in choir, in Bible teaching, and administration of Lorne Park Baptist Church. MARION ELIZABETH HANSGEN (nee Hill), 54 years, of Lanark, died peacefully at Perth Hospital, on October 29, 2005. Marion grew up in Petrolia, leaving to attend Conestoga College in Kitchener. Marion was an avid gardener. She worked for the Lanark Era Newspaper until ill health forced her to a quieter life.
