SAWYER, TINA: At West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby on Friday, November 24, 2006, Zwaantina (Tina) Alberta Sawyer (nee Westerhof) of Smithville, in her 75th year. Beloved wife of the late George Dean Wright (1986) and the late Jack Alexander Sawyer (1996). Loving mother of Bruce Earl Wright and his wife Janet of Niagara Falls, Gary Dean Wright and his wife Patricia of Huntsville, Edward Wright-Sawyer and his wife Tracey of St. Catharines, Sherry Lynn Hunter and her husband Donald of Hamilton, and Linda Darlene Emerson of Ancaster. Cherished grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Jakoba and the late Al Dekker of Fonthill, Rita and the late Klaas Meeboer of Hamilton, and Gerrit Westerhof and his wife Judith of Winnipeg. She will also be sadly missed by her stepson Verne and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter Donna Lee, brother Henry Westerhof and sister Greta Kiers and her husband Rudolf. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27 at 11 am at the funeral home. SCHOLL, MARIE: At West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby on Friday, October 6, 2006, Marie Evelyn Scholl in her 77th year. Beloved wife of Adam Scholl for nearly 57 years. Together, they operated a dairy farm in Caistor for many years. Loving mother of John and his wife Ann Marie of Grimsby and grandma to Brett and Jarrett, and loving mother to Joanne and her husband John Scime of Caistor and grandma to Joel and Josh. Marie is also survived by her sisters-in-law Lil Nelson and Rose Nelson. Predeceased by her son Jim (1972), and brothers Harvey Nelson (1994) and Fred Nelson (2004). The funeral service will be held at the Merritt Funeral Home 287 Station Street, Smithville at 1 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2006. Interment Grace United Church cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.

SMITH, FRED: Suddenly, on Monday, May 22, 2006, Fred George Smith in his 54th year. Beloved husband of Jackie (nee North). Loving father to Kristie (Matt) LeBlanc, Jennifer, James and Katie. Dear son of Edna Smith and the late Leslie Smith, and son-in-law of Vi North and the late Joseph North. Dear brother of Joan (Bob) Ballantyne, Marlene (Tom) Los, Brenda (Glenn) Robins, Verna Cook, and Verne (Kim) Smith. Brother-in-law of Larry North, Gene North, John Vanderkooy and Bill Cook. Loved uncle of many nieces and nephews. Fred was a long-time employee of Niagara Region Roads Department, Smithville Yard. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Wednesday 7-9 pm and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2006 at 11 am at Merritts United Church (at South Chippewa and Church Road). Interment at the church's adjoining cemetery. Dieter Sommer
1936 - 2006
SOMMER, DIETER: Peacefully, at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, in his 71st year. Dieter is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Trudy (nee Wilhelm) and will live on by his loving children Sonya, Roy and his wife Donna, Gary and his wife Joanne, Peter and his love Haylie, and his precious grandchildren Joseph, Jennifer, Jessica, Kimberly, Katherine, Victoria and Isabelle. Survived by his brother Siegfried Eisenmann and loving wife Almut and their children Werner, Ruth and Almut Jr. and grandchildren. Also survived by his loving and ever devoted companion, Sadie, his German Shepherd Dog. Dieter was a 40 year employee (retired) of Stelco where he made many long-lasting friendships. Being an avid soccer fan where he can now have a front row seat to any game, Dieter coached and refereed many children and he was an inspiration to all. He loved and lived life to the fullest and had no fear for any new challenge that life presented to him. Dieter's family would like to thank the kind and thorough care given to him by Dr. Ginsburg and Dr. Zeyl and also to the gentleness and care given to him by the nurses at the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the West Lincoln Memorial Auxiliary in Grimsby, and this can be done through Merritt Funeral Home.

STIRLING, HELEN: Peacefully at her home in St. Anns on Friday, March 31, 2006, Helen Stirling (Nobbs) in her 56th year. Beloved wife of Tom Lickers. Loving daughter of Sophie (and the late John) Levinski. Loving mother (and grandmother) of Robert and Tracey Stirling of Smithville and their children Madison, Connor and Quentin; and of Susan Starfield and her husband Clive of Vineland and their children Jessie and Brittany. Dear sister of Jim Bandaruk, Ronald Levinski and Olga Bow. Predeceased by her sister Jennie. The family received friends at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Friday, April 7 from 12 – 2 pm. A private family service followed. Cremation has taken place.

Loving father of Rick and Monique Streefkerk, Arlene and Rob Clemence, and Lynda and Barry Antle. Cherished Opa of Amanda, Tyler, Jared and Ethan. Dear brother of Atie and Hielke Zylstra, Ans and Kryn Duivestyn, Alie and Hank Moes, and Chris and Fran Streefkerk. The family received friends for visitation on Thursday, January 12, 2006 beginning at 9:30 am at the Westdale Reformed Church, 201 Paradise Road North, Hamilton. The funeral service followed at 11 am. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. STROUD, ALMA "BESSIE" (nee Forth): "Baseball Bessie" passed away November 3, 2006 at Albright Centre in Beamsville. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Felix - "The Captain". Survived by her children Joanne (Ainsley) Hamilton, Mick (Meata) Stroud, Dennis Stroud, Jim Stroud, and Jay (Cathy) Stroud, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A private family service has taken place with inurnment at East Lawn cemetery , Hamilton.

Peter James Taylor
1933 - 2006
TAYLOR, PETER: It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Peter at the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at the age of 73 after a battle with cancer. Beloved husband of 44 years of Elizabeth. Loving father of Randy Taylor (Brenda) of Smithville and Kevin Taylor (Britteny) of Victoria, BC. Devoted grandfather to Dakota and Nathan. Dear brother of Claudia and her husband Don Seyffert of Niagara Falls. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Zita Taylor, sister Sharon and brother Paul. Remembered fondly by his mother-in-law Teresa Binschedler and sister-in-law Theresa Allan and her family, and by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends here in Ontario, and in Nova Scotia, especially by Marilyn and Sam Goora, and Curt and Carol Taylor. Dear uncle of Ralph (Tracy), Jay, Jaime-Lynn (Doll) Tyler, Jordon, Cory, the late Jessica King and the late Jason King. Special Uncle Jim to Sydnie. Also loved by many other relatives and friends. A service will be held on Friday, October 6 at 2:30 pm at Woodland cemetery (700 Spring Gardens Road, Burlington - near Royal Botanical Gardens). Loving mother of Katherine (and the late Harvey) Putman of Beamsville, Larry and Lina White of Thorold, and Barbara White of Fonthill. Cherished by grandchildren Ashley, Bruce, Rick and Everette, and great-grandchildren Hailey, Kelsey and Holden. Dear sister of Dorothy (and the late Gordon) McKeen, Harold (and the late Sheila) Towns, Bazel and Bernice Towns, and Orville and Millie Towns. Predeceased by her brothers Elmer, Everette and Herbert Towns. A graveside service will be held at Bismark United Church cemetery on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 11am. WAITE, WRAY: Peacefully, at Albright Manor in Beamsville, on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, Vincent Wray Waite of Caistor Centre, in his 86th year. Beloved husband of the late Doris Eileen Waite (nee Swick). Loving father of Beverley and William Lindstrom, Vincent and Sharon Waite, and David and Barbara Waite. Cherished by his grandchildren Melanie, Vincent Jr., Ryan, Kyle and Teagan. Dear brother of Amos Waite and his wife Ruth, Don Waite and the late Joyce, Ralph Waite and the late Marjorie, and Marie Nicholls and the late Ross. Also predeceased by his infant son Douglas, brothers Earl, Roy and Ross Waite, and sisters Ruby Waite and Reta Chrysler. The funeral service was held at the Caistor Centre Free Methodist Church on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at 11 am with Rev. Raymond Hartman and Rev. John Knoll officiating. Fred Merritt also spoke of memories of Wray, and Ruth Griffin was the organist. Interment Caistor Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers were Doug Nicholls, Lyle Nicholls, John Waite, Andy Waite, Jim Smith and Rick Edwards. Beloved wife of the late Nanning Zeldenrust (1976). Loving mother of Sidney and Margaret Zeldenrust, Linda and Keith Elzinga, and Klaas and Henny Zeldenrust. Cherished Oma of 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Dear sister-in-law of Ida Sminia in New Zealand. Predeceased by her parents Klaas Sminia and Lolkje Bosch, sister Renske and brothers Klaas, Piet, Andreas and Jan.
