It is with sadness that we announce the death of the beloved husband of Jean Curry (nee Gallson), on Wednesday, September14, 2005, in his 91st year. Dear father of Colleen Gammon (Fred), Sandra Agius (John), Marilyn Meadows (Glenn) and Dianne Cameron. He will be sadly missed by 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, his sister Mary Mackie, his brother Bill Curry, and his many nieces and nephews.
A Private Family Service will be held in the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Saturday, September 17th, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
BOYCE (nee Salmonson) - Agnes
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Agnes on September 16, 2005 at the North Bay General Hospital- Scollard site at the age of 83. Pre deceased by her parents the late Martin and Ruth Salmonson Beloved wife of Gordon Boyce. Loving mother to Brenda Rose (David) of Pembroke, Glenn Boyce of Temiscaming and Lori Fortin (Jean-Marc) of Pennsylvania. Will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Stephen (Janice), Alison (Robert) and Jason (Amy), Jonathan, and Skylar. Dear Great-grandmother to Leeann, James, Michael, Nicholas, Kyle, Connor, and Tessa. She will be fondly remembered by her sister Martyna Wallace of Montana. Agnes had been a member of the Niatia Rebekah Lodge # 347 (Temiscaming) for over 30 years.

BROWN - Gordon Fleming
Peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on Friday September 16, 2005, at the age of 85 years. Gordon Fleming Brown was for the past 45 years the beloved husband of Josephine E. (Bishop). Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his sister Orlo Nielson of Owen Sound, his brother Norman of Kilsyth, Ont. and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents the late Erskine and Nellie Brown. Gordon's career as an accountant began with the Booth Lumber Company in Kipewa. Following his marriage to Josephine in 1960, they moved to Tee Lake and were then transferred to Montreal. Booths was eventually sold to Universal Oil Products and in 1972 the Browns were transferred to North Bay. Gordon retired from the company in 1981 and began a second career as a bailiff. He was still involved with his business until a few months prior to his death.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a grave side service for the committal of his ashes will be held in the Greenwood cemetery , Owen Sound at 11:30 am on Friday September 23rd, 2005.

SCANLON - Donald Bertram 'Bert'
Peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on Saturday September 17, 2005 at the age of 85 years. Donald Bertram "Bert" Scanlon was the beloved and cherished husband of Barbara (Robinson). Bert and Barbara recently celebrated 61 years of a wonderful marriage and life together. The proud and loving father of Richard and his wife Lorraine of North Bay and Joan Megarrell and her husband Stephen of Terra Cotta, Bert will also be lovingly remembered by his grandson Ryan of Toronto. Predeceased by his sister Marie Hoffman and brothers Doug, Tom, Victor, Fred and Louis. Born and raised in Callander Bert was a veteran, serving in the RCAF East Air Command during the war. Following the war he returned home and began a 32 year career with the Ontario Northland Railway, retiring as an engineer in 1977. Following his retirement he and Barbara remodeled their south shore summer home and moved to the lake full time. When not traveling Bert was most content at his home and enjoying the Lake Nipissing sunsets. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 445 Callander.
Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from city hall) this evening from 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate Bert's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday September 20th at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow in Terrace Lawn cemetery.

BARNES (nee Fry) - Sarah Kathleen 'Kay'
Kay died peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2005 at the North Bay General Hospital - Scollard Site at the age of 80. She is survived by her sons Tom Barnes (friend Liz Duncan) and Jamie Barnes (friend Tammy Walters), grandchildren Jennifer Darby (Geoffrey) of Stittsville, and Christopher Barnes (friend Danika Porter) of Parksville, BC, and great-grandchildren Abbey and Ryan Darby. Kay was predeceased by her husband Doug Barnes, in 1978. She was a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital from 1949 to 1987, including holding positions as head nurse from 1960 - 1987. Kay continued to serve the community during her retirement as a hospital and Meals-on-Wheels volunteer, Heritage Gardener, Heritage Festival Ambassador, and as a choir member at the Emmanuel United Church.
Memorial Visitation will be held in the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Wednesday from 2- 4 and 7 - 9:00 PM. Cremation with interment of ashes in the Terrace Lawn cemetery.

KITTO - Thelma
Peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2005, in North Bay, Ontario. Thelma was selfless and tireless in her work with the church: leading a variety of groups, counseling, raising money for missions, and baking and sewing. Beloved wife for 68 years of William C. (Bill) Kitto; predeceased by her brother, Donald Fraser; loving mother of Barbara Babcock and her husband John of Wiarton, and Rick Kitto and his wife Susan of London. Thelma was proud of her grandchildren Carl & Andy and Karen & Rob, and her five great granddaughters.

SOULIERE - Phyllis Jane 'Meikle'
Peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on Sunday September 18th, 2005, at the age of 78 years. Predeceased by Eugene, her loving husband of 44 years, her parents Jane (Snoddon) and Raymond Meikle, brothers Wilfred (Poly of North Bay) and Gordon. Loving mother of Gail Ainger (Dave deceased) of Sturgeon Falls and Gilbert and his wife Ginette of Astorville. Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by Michelle, Kerry and Gess Ainger and Tria, Gatien and Justin Souliere as their joyful and helpful Granny. Dearly loved sister of Mae Murphy (Guy) of North Bay and Ken (Bev) of Peterborough. Phyllis, born in Vermont in 1926, enjoyed an active, gratifying and fulfilling life in North Bay and Astorville, until her recent final battle began in April. She was a very active and devoted 47 year member of the O.R.P., having spent countless hours helping raise funds for the organizations many worthwhile causes. Her unending love of curling, despite two hip replacements provided her 30 years of enjoyment as a member of N.C.C. Phyllis shall remain an inspiration to her 28 nieces and nephews and her many friends and relatives who recognized her devotion to helping them and others above herself.

Died at the North Bay General Hospital - Scollard Site, on Sunday, February 10, 2002. Lorraine Bates, was the beloved wife of Ken Strong, in her 58th year. Loving mother to her children Debra Hill and her husband Grant Best of Flesherton and Dwayne Gedney of Markdale. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Braedon and Allison. Lorraine will be fondly missed by her special friends Don and Diane Rioux of Callander. DIKKEN - John
passed away after a courageous Battle with Leukemia at the Sudbury Regional Hospital on Wednesday September 21, 2005 at 34 years of age. Beloved husband and best friend to Shannon Lariviere. Precious father of Zackary and Zane both at home. Loving son to Ed and Jackie Yerlitz and son of John Dikken. Cherished brother and uncle of Jamie Dikken (Rob) and daughter Ariel, Candie Gravelle (Chris) and children Brody and Jessa, and Wesley Yerlitz and his children Kristin and Tammy. Sadly missed by grampa John Howe, gramma Ann Dikken and nana Yerlitz (Bill). Also sadly missed by his mother and father-in-law Steve and Doreen Lariviere and brother-in-law Steven Lariviere (Amanda). Fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

At North Bay on Friday September 23, 2005. Russell Garnet Soule, beloved husband of Catherine Nickolson, in his 91st year. Predeceased by his parents George Wesley Soule and Emma Alma (Longhurst), brothers George, Archie, Frank and Bill and sisters Marie and Alma. Russ is survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A member of Nipissing Masonic Lodge # 420, A.F. & A.M. since 1944 and the Rorab Shrine Club since 1948.
A memorial service for Russell will be held at the Martyn Funeral Home on Wednesday September 28th at 2 pm. Cremation will take place with interment of ashes in North Bay Union cemetery.
