Peacefully in her 86th year at Marian Villa, London, Ont. Long time member of the Golden Age Club and Honourary Guard and well known for her arts and crafts, baking and oil painting. Predeceased by her parents Jack and Edith Hathaway, sisters Evelyn Wale and Ann Campbell, Husband Tom Skerrett, Daughters Rosamond and Mavis, grandchildren Derek and Melody Lane. Survived by daughters Arlene Buklis (John) of North Bay, Valerie Utasi (Rudy) of Vernon, B.C., and Susan Brown (Peter) of Oakville, Ont. and many nieces and nephews including Cliff Nichols of North Bay. Grandchildren Tom Carriere (Teresa) of London, Ont., John Carriere (Marlene) of Prince George, B.C. Larry Bishop (Carolyn) of Ottawa, Kalman Utasi of B.C., Melissa Utasi of Winnipeg, Serena Healy of Texas, Jack Carriere (Dorothy) of Saskatchewan, Timothy Guay (Marian) of Chicago, Il. and seven grandchildren including Tom Carriere Jr. of London, Ont. DIREN - Edna Blanche
After a lengthy illness, peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site, on Wednesday June 15th, 2005 at the age of 79 years. Edna Blanche (nee Cunningham), for the past 43 years, the beloved wife of Dr. Gultekin Diren. Proud and loving mother of Lynda Diren (Kevin Costigan) and Sandra Diren. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Hailey and Cole Fernandez. Predeceased by her parents the late Norm and Jessie Cunningham, her step-mother Edna and sister Lucy. A dedicated wife and mother Blanche was a Registered Nurse by profession, working at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto before coming to North Bay. An avid reader she was also a talented knitter and gardener.

FLOYD (nee Daub) - Margaret Mary
born in South Himsworth June 7, 1914 passed away at Leisureworld on June 24, 2005. She was predeceased by her husband Edward James Floyd. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Gary (Joan) of Halifax and Gilbert (Ilona) of West Vancouver; grandchildren Shawn and Merry; great grandchildren Brandon, Kirsten, Andrew, Katrina and Kellee; sister Lavina and brothers Carl and Gerald. A special thank you to her niece Sherri-Lynn MacLean for the support and kindness she gave her Aunt Marg. The family also wishes to thank the staff at the Empire Living Centre and Leisureworld for their care and compassion. Margaret greatly appreciated the many visits and expressions of love she received from family and friends.

FARLINGER - Dr. Fraser Alexander
passed away at the North Bay General Hospital on Sunday, June 26, 2005, in his 83rd year. Fraser was the cherished husband and best friend of Alice Brillon (Bond). Loving father of Arlene Primrose (Brian), Barbara Snedden (Ken), Gordon Farlinger and survived by their mother Lois, all of New Liskeard. Loving step-father of Ward Bond (Carol) of Collingwood, Kathryn Roberts (James) of Cookstown and Jonathan Bond (Tamara) of Kenora. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Ryan, Kimberley, Sarah, Alex, Stephanie, Charlie, Nathan and Avery. Fraser was predeceased by his parents Dr. A.C. Farlinger and the former Sara J. McCorquodale, also by his brother Don (survived by his wife Diane). Dear brother of Mary Rowe and Jane Reeves (Bob). Dr. Farlinger graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University in 1948. He practiced medicine in New Liskeard for 28 years and moved to North Bay in 1975 to work at the North Bay General Hospital as an Anaesthetist until his retirement in 1988.

At the North Bay General Hospital on Monday June 27th, 2005, at the age of 87 years. Robert Charles Barton, dear husband of Jean ( nee MacPherson). Loving father of Robert (wife JoAnn) of Dwight, Ont. Sadly missed by grandchildren Tracey Barton (husband Ken Brockington) and Melissa Barton. Survived by his sister Grace Hull of North Bay.

THACKER - Christopher Todd 'Chris'
North Bay Special Olympian Chris Thacker died suddenly at his home on Sunday June 26th, 2005, at the age of 33 years. Chris was the dearly beloved son of Colin Thacker (Marlene) and Jinny Thacker (Claude Tetreault), and will be sadly missed by his extended family Ian, Jason, and Tara Alger, all of North Bay. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandmother Margaret Thacker of St. Thomas, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his Granddad Bert, and his Grandma & Grandpa Lollie and Nipper Scott. A graduate of Widdifield Secondary School, Chris was a member of the Widdifiled Wildcats football team. He will be remembered by most for his accomplishments as a power lifter for the Special Olympics Team. He was recently named to the Special Olympics Team Ontario and was to compete in the National Competitions to be held in Brandon, Manitoba in 2006. Chris was working towards his goal of being chosen to Represent Canada in the World Special Olympics to be held in Shang Hi, China. For many years Chris was the stick boy for the North Bay Centennials Hockey Club and worked tirelessly supporting his team. An avid sports fan he particularly enjoyed the Toronto Blue Jays and the Argonauts Football Team.

Suddenly at home on Saturday June 25th, 2005, at the age of 19 years. George Nicholas Terry, beloved son of George and Rosemary Terry (nee Harper) of North Bay and the dearly loved brother of Megan. Nicholas will be lovingly remembered by his grandparents George and Maxine Terry of Trenton, as well as his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Predeceased by is grandparents Esther and Fred Harper, formerly of PEI.

He was the beloved husband for 53 years to Irene Taylor (nee Miller). Dear father of Noreen Ed (Scully) of Corbeil and Dave (Cindy Taylor) of Oshawa. GRANT (nee VERMEIREN) - Jeanne
July 1, 1922 - July 2, 2005 passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at North Bay General Hospital Scollard Site. Jeanne will be lovingly remembered by many friends and relatives. Predeceased by her husband Gordon Grant, remembered by her daughter Jessie (Georges Turenne), daughter Diane ( Stan), son Andrew (Shirley). Greatly missed by grandchildren, Kelly Ann(Rob) Steven (Cindy), Kevin (Rhondi), Shannon (James), Ryan (Jordanna) and great-grandchildren, Allysha, Dylan, Jesse Robert, Lindsay-Leigh, and special family friend Alva Chapman. Jeanne was born in Antwerp, Belgium and emigrated to Canada as a war bride in 1946 and happily made Canada her second home. Nieces and Nephews still residing in Belgium are saddened by the loss of the last Aunt and living relation from the Vermeiren family. She was always happiest surrounded by all her family. She enjoyed many church activities at St. Brice's, many tea's and bazaars, quilting was one of her greatest joys. Jeanne's last day was celebrated with her entire family for her birthday party and she even had jokes and smiles for all of us. Jeanne was a 50 year member of Fidelis Chapter No. 99 Order of the Eastern Star. We thank Leisure World and all the nurses and special care givers for all their kind attention to Jeanne, over the last year. Also, North Bay General Hospital, all attendants in the ER, ICU nurse Bonnie and Rev. Dawna Denis for their support during her last hours.

ROSS - Denis Marc
After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, he passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital (Barrie), on Tuesday, July 5, 2005. Denis was the beloved husband of Joanne Landry-Ross, he was 36 years old. Denis was the loving father to their children Justin and Julianne. Loving son of J.N. Ernest and Edna (nee Rochon) Ross of Sudbury and son in law of Lionel and Jacqueline Landry of North Bay. Dearly loved brother of Carol Ann Ross and brother in law of Suzette Landry-Potvin and Louise Landry all of Ottawa.
Denis's family will receive friends in the Martyn Funeral Home (across from City Hall) on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 Pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday evening at 7:15 PM. Interment will follow in Callander Union cemetery on Monday.
