MURPHY - Thelma
Peacefully on July 31, 2004 with family by her bedside, Thelma Murphy, 84 years, passed into God's hands at North Bay, Ontario. Thelma, born in 1920, was one of two daughters born to Gordon and Norma McEnaney of Toronto, Ontario. Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Roy, her mother and father and her sister, Loyola. She leaves behind to honour her memory, three sons and their families; Peter (Janet) and their children Shannon (Geoff) and Christopher of Alberta, Tom (Adrienne) and Dennis (Elizabeth) of North Bay and children Jason (Vicky), Timmins, Kelly in Toronto and Caitlyn at home in North Bay, along with extended family and numerous friends. Thelma grew up in Toronto, receiving her education there and living in West Toronto. Thelma was active in the St. Cecelia's Parish and after graduation worked at Eaton's forming a number of lifelong friendships. She married Roy Murphy in July of 1944, a day that was as hot as anyone could remember. Roy and Thelma remained in Toronto until a promotion brought the Murphys to North Bay in 1960. Three boys to raise left Thelma with precious little time for hobbies, but she managed to squeeze out a few. She had an interest in pottery and completed a number of pieces. But her first and fondest hobby was singing. She sang in the Eaton's Girls Glee Club early on in her life and continued as she joined the North Bay Baytones, holding various positions in the club. But the position she held most dearly was on the risers with the rest of the "girls" singing every chance they could muster. Again, Thelma formed firm friends who helped each other through thick and thin. Thelma was a good cook and even better Mother and tempered her discipline with humour and twinkle in her eye. A good sort and a good sport. Illness had taken away some of her memory but took away none of her good humour and smiling eyes. And even at that, she retained her teasing manner with her "Boys". Prayers will be said at the Martyn Funeral Home this evening and a Funeral Mass will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with a private interment to follow at Mount Hope cemetery in Toronto.

The family would respectfully request that in lieu of flowers, consideration be given to a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
