Bucciero, Miriam Dora Betty Kirby 1922-2010
Miriam Dora Betty Kirby Bucciero
September 9, 1922 – April 4, 2010
Betty was born in Comox, BC and raised in Victoria, the daughter of George Kirby and Miriam Carter. Predeceased by sisters Peggie and Joan, she leaves her sister Barbara in Victoria.
Betty was an out-of- the-ordinary woman who lived an out-of-the-ordinary life – which she thoroughly enjoyed. An adventurous spirit, she lived and worked in Rome immediately after WWII, where she met her husband Arnaldo (1919-1986) in 1947; with him and their family lived between Canada, Italy and the United States.
She was a loving, wise, and creative mother and an equally memorable grandmother. She corrected our grammar with humour and persistence, and sang the right note when we were out of tune. She loved breakfast anytime of the day, a good cup of tea all day, and wouldn’t turn down a sherry in the afternoon. She was an enthusiastic traveler, reader, crossword puzzler and opera lover. She absolutely owned the geography category in Trivial Pursuit.
She fought a vigorous battle with dementia for the last eight years, never losing her sense of humour and vibrant spirit.
We are grateful beyond words to the staff of Rymal and Stonechurch at Wentworth Heights long-term care centre for their unfailingly patient, affectionate, expert, and respectful care.
Loved and missed by her family, children, Marina (Robert Palmese), Patricia (David Semel), and Paul (Lynda Nabuurs) and grandchildren Chiara and Massimo Palmese and Kirby and Lucas Bucciero, by her extended family, and close friends.
Visitation at BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME – “William J. Markey Chapel”, 947 Rymal Rd. East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Wednesday, April 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8p.m. Funeral Thursday April 8 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 50 Brucedale Avenue East, Hamilton.
