It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father after a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday April 22, 2009 at the Henderson Hospital at the age of 74. Unexpectedly at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario in her 76th year. Predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Eleanor Haw (nee Williams) and her sister Sharon McNabb (nee Haw). She will be sadly and deeply missed by her children Alan (Jackie Garrity), Jocelyn, Tim (Kim Byers) and Paul (France Fontana), her nieces Nancy and Elizabeth McNabb, nephew Bruce McNabb (Fran Janik) and her beloved and cherished grandchildren, Catherine, Andrew, Danielle, Cameron, Harrison, Sophie, Jamie and Paulina. Proudly born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Leonor attended Elbow Park and Rideau Park Schools and Central Memorial High School where she was valedictorian in her graduating year. She had fond memories of Calgary, helping at the family’s Williams Brothers store, enjoying sporting and social activities at the Glencoe Club and winning the Alberta Junior Mixed Doubles Badminton Championship. Moving East, she earned her Honours degree in Economics at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario (1957) where she was given the Tricolor award in recognition for her outstanding contribution to the university. She was also President of Levana and Editor of the Tricolor yearbook. Leonor later earned her Computer Systems Technology degree from Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario (1986) as a mature student. While raising her children, she worked as an economist for the Ontario Government and as a systems analyst for the Royal Bank of Canada in Toronto. She volunteered for the Junior League of Hamilton, St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church and throughout her life cultivated and shared her passion for gardening and garden design. Leonor will be remembered for her sense of humour, her love of family, her commitment to her principles and her desire to help, nurture and support those she cared about. Her incredible connection with people was something that touched us all.

Peacefully, with family by her side, at McMaster University Medical Centre on Monday, February 11, 2008 at the age of 93. Loving mother of Raymond (Eileen) of Lakefield, Marnell (late Bill) Meisel of Golden Lake, Sharon (Larry) Darbyson of St. Catharines, Doug (Laurie) of Westover, and Val (Bob) Patterson of Dundas.
