Suddenly, at the Ottawa Heart Institute on Thursday September 1st, 2005, at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by his loving wife Mary. Dear father of Cathrine (Bo Skowronnek), Judith-Ann Offley (Rick Leizert), Margaret Offley (Glenn Coffin) and Diane (Carl Harriman). Proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Born in England, George affected all who knew him through his vibrant, and lively character and his determined will. He joined the Air Arm of the Royal Navy and flew one of the nine Swordfish torpedo bombers attacking the German battleship Bismarck in the first ever carrier-borne air strike against a battleship. George received the Murmansk Medal from the Former Soviet Union in recognition of his allied service, and has been decorated extensively by the Canadian and British Governments, including receiving the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. He supported and participated in The Royal Canadian Legion and ensuring veterans' rights. The family would like to thank the staff and physicians at the Ottawa Heart Institute for their care and compassion during George's treatments. After what he always perceived as a great life Charlie Fleming departed this life on Thursday, September 8, 2005 for a still greater life in the glory of God at age 85. Beloved husband of Elsie Fleming (nee Large). Loving father of Arlene Margaret Pelrine (Joseph M.) of Vancouver and David William presently in Las Vegas. Cherished grandfather of Lynn C. and Karen L. Pelrine both of Vancouver. Dear brother of Mary Lou Dewar (Robert) of Calgary, Alice Wachter (Charlie) of Maryland, Stanley (Carol) of Fergus, ON and Douglas of Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, NB, Charles spent a large part of his life in Naval pursuits, starting at age 10 in Sea Cadets then to naval reserves and eventually in the RCN during which time he had several commands both ashore and afloat. Many friends of Charlie would remember him as just plain Chuck Fleming, particularly in the world of sport where he was a player in baseball and hockey and an active participant in modern western square dancing, both as a caller and dancer. Charles will also be remembered as a high school teacher serving under Ottawa Board of Education at Champlain High School. Charlie's final work was a six year stint with the Royal Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, in which he proudly served in what he always expressed, was a great joy and pleasure among his veteran peers.
