O'Brien, James Louis

James passed away in hospital, in Ottawa on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in his 59th year. Beloved son of the late Walter and Mabel O’Brien (nee Smith) of Ottawa. Survived by sister D. Katherine Jackson (Alan) of Boca Raton, Florida, niece Dr. Jennifer Jackson of New Haven, Connecticut, nephew Dr. Gregory Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio; sister Julia M. O’Brien and nephews Charles (Chas) and Liam Broderick all of Winnipeg, Manitoba; brother Walter W. O’Brien of London, England. Mr. O’Brien held the position of Vice-Chair of the Ontario Municipal Board, Toronto, Ontario. Prior to his appointment to the OMB in 1997, he held senior positions with the City of Ottawa, and the Regional Municipality of Ottawa Carleton. Mr. O’Brien obtained his law degree from the University of Ottawa in 1975 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1977. Mr. O’Brien and his siblings would like to especially thank his cousin Patrick O’Brien, wife Fay and Aunt Lorna O’Brien for their kindness and help during his illness. Thanks as well to Dr. Timothy Brandys, the Vascular Surgery team and the kind and compassionate nursing staff of the Unit B-2 of the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus. Visitation will be held at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd (at Roosevelt Ave) on Tuesday, May 18th from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 19th from 12 p.m.-1:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 153 Woodroffe Avenue (at Byron) on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Interment and reception to follow at Beechwood cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in James’ memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 26331, STN BRMB, Toronto, ON, M7Y 4R1, or the charity of your choice

Latreille, Ruby
In hospital on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the age of 88 years. Beloved wife of the late Romeo Latreille. Loving mother of Alayne Latreille and Loraine Hartley (Ed). Dear grandmother of Alexander Hartley. She is survived by her brother William Brunette. Predeceased by her sister Ella Smith. A graveside service will be held at Pinecrest cemetery on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 1pm. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa.

Dobson, Meyril Kenneth
passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Anne (Hill). Loving father of Ron Dobson (Wanda Duncan), and the late Anne Strathern. Cherished Grandpa of Ron Strathern (Monique), Chris Dobson, Wendy Da Ros (Anthony), Lisa Dobson (Dave Mander), & Great-Grandpa of Tristen, Olivia, Alex, Joey, Anna, Amanda, and Adam. He will be dearly missed by his faithful companion Clare Stevenson, his sister Marlene Mulligan (the late Lyall) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Laura Mains and Verna Macfarlane, as well as brothers Arnold and Robert Dobson. Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore Dr and Baseline Rd) on Sunday, May 16th from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday at 2:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. Special thanks to Kim Hallarn and staff of the Redwoods Residence for all their care and support. Dear grandmother of Tanya Coghlan and grandmother of Bobbi-Jo & Billi-Jo Mooney, and great-grandmother of two. Eva was predeceased by her siblings; Lennis Howard, Wellington Howard, Grace Hines, Idena Laakkonen, Keith Howard, and Samuel Howard. Survived by brothers-in-law James (Bud) Hines and Enzio Laakkonen, as well as sisters-in-law June Howard and Beatrice Howard. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Borden and Bernice Branscombe. Dear brother of the late Douglas (Pauline) Branscombe, Lois (Doug) McKay, Bonnie (the late David) Walker and Brian Branscombe. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ron was the former owner of Branscombe Motor Inn, Ottawa, Busch’s Seafood Restaurant in Delray Beach and Jupiter, FL. Peacefully at her home in St. Patrick’s Home, Ottawa, Ontario on Monday, December 25, 2006 at age 83. Inez Doreen Campbell, wife of the late John Edward Adams. Sister of Merle Ostrander. Survived by nieces and nephews. Inez is predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Kathleen Campbell and by her brother Lawrence and by a sister Lucille. In hospital Sunday, May 16, 2010, in her 84th year. Daughter of the late Joseph and Violet Hemphill. Beloved wife of the late William John (Willy/Bill) Rivington and the late Gilbert Crosby. Mother of Hal (Linda) and the late Heather Roessl (Franz). Grandmother to Samantha Bleecker (nee Pihlainen) and her husband Chris, Franzie, Hans, Kristy and Heather. Great Grandmother of William, Johnathan, Lily and Benjamin. Sister of Helen and Mabel. Retired Manager of Group Claims, Metropolitan Life
After a brief illness, Phil passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the age of 74 years. Born in Shawville, Quebec he was the son of the late Stella (Bradley) and Lemuel Hodgins. Dearly loved husband of Joyce (Kord). Cherished father of Deborah and Joanne Hodgins. Predeceased by his high school sweetheart and wife Kathryn (Black) and by his brothers Desmond and Carson. Also predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Gwen Peaker. He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Helen and Jim Cutting, Lorraine and Gordon Sinclair and many nieces and nephews. Admired and loved by his step-children Lee-Anne Veinot (Steve), Jeff Nelles (Lynne), Lisa Bodnoff (Paul) and Rick Kord. Loved by his step-grandchildren Taylor, Ashley, Kelsey, Bryden, Ryan and Jenna. Phil loved sports, especially hockey. In his youth in Shawville, he played junior hockey for the Junior Hockey Club, Shawville High School and baseball for the Shawville Tigers. He was an avid fan of the Ottawa Senators. Phil was involved in all aspects of curling. He was a member and President of Cityview Curling Club, Board member of the Ottawa Valley Curling Assoc., President of the Ontario Curling Assoc. and President of the Governor Generals Curling Club. Phil’s kind and gentle spirit will be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed. The family would like to express our deep gratitude to the Queensway Carleton ICU staff for the excellent care provided for Phil. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Dennis, Cecile, Robyn, Christopher, Chantelle, Cheryl, Benjamin, Curtis, Elizabeth, Alana, Thomas and Jake, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren.
